Ready @ Dawn: "Graphic fidelity of The Order 1886 definitely exceeds the trailer"

We did not get anything this year at Destination PS.

Which wasn't surprising since they'd just announced the PS4 and were holding off on everything after that until E3. But in the past we have got announcements out of it

I certainly expect some announcements there since it'll be the first major event since the PS4 was released. And retailers are certainly going to be wanting to hear about their plans through the year. Remember, they're planning 20 titles in the PS4's first year and they only have 13 announced (and some of those aren't even coming out 2014).

This is about increasing graphic fidelity over what could be achieved at 1,920X1,080.
It's plain as day. But if you want to swallow the PR line, then feel free.
Too bad Beyond disagrees with you. The bars can be removed with a hack and the framerate is still solid enough. More drops sure, but not even close to unplayable and they could have totally shipped the game in that state. Purely artistic choice. Maybe Sony's first/second party is different from Capcom?

I will never understand The human mind.

Are people serious when they are saying that the aspect ratio is a Big issue ?

why is it hard for you to understand that some people don't like the aspect ratio?

personally I've never played any of the previous games that have been in that aspect ratio, so i'm pretty skeptical about it. I have a feeling I will be annoyed by it while playing, but I'm holding off judgement until I have it in front of me on my TV.

I platinum Beyond and i didn't know about the bars before this thread. downgrade to casual member?

Why wouldn't people believe it? The trailer was realtime with game assets, and that was a few months ago. There's no reason it shouldn't look better.

Not at all. Having finished Beyond multiple times I actually prefer the bars now. Maybe it's habit? I dunno. Here is a comparison with and without bars using a hacked PS3:

Ignore the difference in image quality and contrast. Captures are from different footage.

Why bother? The screens we have now are more than good enough, just make the gameplay silky smooth. Performance should be far more important than visuals which something games have gone away from after the PS2 era.

It's kinda sad how much the different aspect ratio is dragging down my hype for this game. I'm still very interested, but it really bums me out.

Its not dragging down my hype but I don't like or understand it at all.

With movies I completely understand why its done and I accept that I'm getting a compromised experience at home. I don't see why a videogame that is not going to be played in a cinema is asking me to make the same compromise.

So does Resident Evil 4 bum you out? Because that game did the exact same thing. Black bars for cinematic effect.

Well nobody is making you agree with the artist's vision or decisions. Maybe this game isnt for you?

Maybe it isn't? I'm not sure anyone could make that determination at this point; we've seen/know so little about it.

However, I'm not sure about you, but I don't live in a black/white world. Its possible to not like/agree with one or even multiple aspects of a work, while still enjoying it overall.

Actions speak louder then words, or in this case some gameplay would.

Cannot wait to see this game. I just hope they take it easy on the FXAA.

I would take a 3 second snippet of gameplay at this point.
Seriously, even if they PS4 Share and upload like 4 sec to their Facebook it'd be great. That alone will give us some gameplay and it'll be confirmed running on PS4. (I have no doubt it already is but some are skeptic here on GAF)

Kinda looks like the protagonist is carrying a gun with three barrels on this shot.

P.S: Offensive levels of CA being used in those images.

massive aircooler on the gun with a grenade launcher attachment, the barrel underneath that is most definitely someone else the you can't see becasue something something angles.

I didn't notice the bars in Dragon's Dogma until I read about it on GAF. :(

Screen composition was terrible in Dragon's Dogma, so it's the only game where I'll accept complaints about the letterbox. The HUD didn't feel designed for it, nor was the placing of the character + height of the camera if you weren't aiming a bow. It honestly left the screen feeling crowded at times. Combined with the nasty banding in the nighttime sky and it wasn't a pretty site at times.

But Beyond already proved that a scope AR can work, and The Order with the offset perspective and super tight aim-down-sight view will be fine. I don't understand the complaints about this whatsoever.

That's kind of revisionist. The PS2 era was unusually good in that regard (though by no means was it across the board) but it's the exception, not the norm from which we've deviated. In fact, the PS1 and N64 generation was absolutely woeful for performance.

Sure. But you are down on one of the aspects of the game that will be consistent throughout it. Seems to me like it would be a chore to play.

if that is already true then surely it is ready to tease! You skipped VGX (prob for the best, but I was surprised), so come on! Don't make us wait til GDC or E3 :(

I'm guessing they're saving it for after Christmas/New Year to get some buzz back up - which makes sense considering PS4 is sold out and hugely popular at the moment.

Good from a marketing point of view, bad from a core gamer view.

So you decided to skip the home releases of the movie featured in your avatar?

No, I didn't skip it and probably won't skip The Order either. As annoying as black bars are, if the game is good enough it will be worth it. I'm not in love with every single feature/mechanic/design choice in each game I play and I'm sure you aren't either.

For me a full screen feels more immersive; black bars reduce the immersion and are distracting.

Have you ever watched a letter box film...? Did it annoy you?
For example, Ben Hur.

Well, the game is framed for 2.40:1, that makes a big difference.

I honestly expected PS3.5 style comments from launch titles, as is par for the course every new generation. Instead I've been pretty blown away. Shadow Fall, Ryse, NBA 2K14 etc taking names, even favourably comparing to the best PC's (enthusiast) have to offer, and that's at launch. Shadow Fall and Ryse for example trading blows with Crysis 3 and BF4 at max PC settings (minus the ultra down sampled IQ) and the like. DriveClub easily ousting ProjectCars etc. The future is very bright indeed.

Bang on this Post!

Its not the type of thing that ruins a game, its more of an annoyance, which is why I initially stated that it doesn't effect my hype for the game.

christ, talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill
no one said a thing about re4 when it came out, besides that it looked incredible

stop whining you dorks
you're the reason why "full screen" dvds existed for so long
