Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies SPOILER thread | So THAT'S why it's rated M

Heh, unfortunately I probably wouldn't be much help. Is there an ETA on the translation? I actually really enjoyed AAI more than most and I heard that the 2nd one was much better.

The first two cases have been ROM hacked successfully and the whole translated game's been up on Youtube for a while. Playing through case 2 currently. I wouldn't say it's as amazing as some have claimed and I'd actually say it's rather close to the first AAI, but I enjoyed the first AAI and I'm enjoying this one as well. The fan translation is top notch, too.

Oh cool, thanks. Good to know the translation isn't superficial. I don't think I'd be able to watch these on Youtube though; too personal for me to just watch someone else play it for me. I'll probably end up waiting for the full thing to be completed/successfully patched which I hope is soon ;-;

Finally getting around to playing case 5 in English.

"Tell me the phantom didn't just trick me into setting up a bad pun."

God, Apollo is the greatest.

So I'm sitting here replaying a bit of the game and my brain makes a connection

"in justice we trust"

"injustice we trust"

...this was a hint the whole time, wasn't it?

Ah, I can post in this thread now! :D

All in all, AA5 was amazing. A very strong entry in the series. That makes two in a row. (Anyone doubting the new team led by Eshiro should be able to rest easy now.)

I'm gonna post my final thoughts in the OT, but then I'll be back. Lots to delve into. :)

Finished the DLC, liked it a whole lot. On of the better filler cases in the series.

Did anyone else think it really should have been in the game proper though, I think it would have added a lot to the story as it was told, and given you more time with badass Phoenix.

Still disappointed by how easy the game is. Everything you have to do is spelled out as if the player was a complete moron.

Phoenix: "I need to show evidence that she can't perform two tricks at a time!"
Evidence description: "Ora can't perform two tricks at a time"

And if it's not that, then your partner points out the contradiction.

Completely ruined the satisfaction of actually solving the cases. They implemented the consulting system, which I have no problem with since it's entirely optional, so why not limit the hints to that?

Yeah, it definitely does spell out what evidence to use too much of the time. The most frustrating this is when you finally figure something out on your own, and then the game launches into an unnecessary flashback sequence highlighting just that.
Kinda makes you feel like you're just along for the ride.

Good game i liked it, second best game in the series for me, anyway in the 5 case, everyone keep saying it wasn't a real trial yet it conclude like a real trial, didn't get that, good game anyways.

Hm, I just watched the AA movie about the events in the first AA game, and they play Athena's Objection theme in the meltdown. Funny.

Yeah, she still looks very young, but I guess she is just a fragile person. Btw. did you all noticed that she copied one of Maya's animations??? That totally made my day (although overall I wished Pearl would have been important for the case :( )

That was so great. Anyone got a clean version/rip of it?

Wait, which one was that?

GUYS

Finally beat Case 5 last night (still have the DLC case to do, though).

Man that was amazing, the whole "ladder where he told me to" bit was so obvious once the game pointed it out. Not at the level that PW3's final case was in terms of "holy crap"-ness, but it was up there.

EDIT: I also so lol'd when the phantom ripped off the mask to reveal the Phoenix one complete with the character jokes.

My sister just got to the Phantom reveal, she just started smiling and laughing because she first chose Candace and it turned out to be wrong. I asked her who she thought the Phantom was yesterday, and she said the only possible one is Yuri and that Fullbright is a god damn detective and his whole personality is about keeping up justice, so he can't be the criminal.

Yeah, I totally agree with this. Also, perhaps I've just become more jaded but I felt like the writing in spots was a bit hokier than it has been - plus the anime cutscenes were pretty cringe-worthy. Still enjoyed the game a lot, but I can't help but feel a little disappointed.

To not be totally negative here I'll say that I like what they did with the examination scenes, particularly marking sections you've already seen. Relentlessly poking around the screen in the previous game trying to find some tiny hidden item is something I'm happy to do without. The 3D environments were also a nice addition to have when you're spending so much time in them.

Also, I really enjoyed that DLC case - I just wish I hadn't waited until completing the main game to play it so that I could have used that sweater unlock lol. And on a related note, having Miiverse support on the 3DS now is awesome for allowing me to take this

From Shinyv at Tumblr (Didn't see it, but sorry if posted):

That is fantastic. First time his phone rang I totally just sat there and listened to it for a while lol.

Finally beat the DLC case yesterday, was freakin' hilarious but the reveal at the end sorta felt like a cop out.
Non the less I overall loved this game.
'The Dissin' of Phoenix Wright' was too much for me.

Finished the game, 'twas awesome. I was like "MOTHERFUCKER" during all the 5th case.

Now should I buy the DLC ? How is it quality wise ?

Frankly if they released a case per month I'd buy them all.

You should totally buy it, lots of great characters and plenty of fun.

Also, you shouldn't come here until you've played it...

Was slightly disappointed with this game and the ending left me rather cold. I had something like 'oh it is him, well okay'. In fact I think it was one of the worst last cases of the series. Also having a character named 'the Phantom' is a bit childish.

Also:
- didn't care for the anime scenes
- didn't like case 2 at all with all those charms and possibly posessed characters, too convoluted. Also showing the killer at the start was not smart imo.
- too much fanservice with characters like Klavier, Edgeworth and Pearls returning, just for the fact of returning
- all this emotions and upbeat happy talk-bullshit blabla in the last case irritated me
- I also didn't like this whole dark age of the law theme at all
- I also found the prosecutor in this game to be bland and uninteresting. Only Klavier was worse. I rather have Edgeworth of Franziska.
- and why is this game too easy? It almost gives away completely what kind of evidence you'll have to show or what you'll have to do.

Don't shoot me for this but I hate Apollo (Justice). I regard Apollo Justice the MGS2 of the series with Apollo being Raiden. The original cast of characters was far superior (Gumshoe, Maya).

Although I have to admit:
- the game has gorgeous graphics
- music was ok
- best case 1 and 3 of the series
- I didn't mind Athena that much and I loved that widget

Finished the main game last week, finished the DLC case tonight. Really enjoyed this, from the characters, to the soundtrack, to the anime cutscenes, easily one of the best in the series, in respect to both content and presentation. After the Zero Escape series handled the transition from sprites to 3D models so poorly with VLR (along with the game itself being so lackluster), it was great to just how well Capcom managed it with Ace Attorney. If I were to rank the main series, I would say: AA1 = AA3 = AA5 > AA2 > = AA4.

Excellent work all around. On another note, I wonder if anyone else thought that Dr. Crab looked like an older Spike Spiegel.

Alright so I have a few questions...

- Why did nobody mention the lack of a knife in the body of the astronaut when everybody still thought the murder took place in the launch corridor? It was really obvious yet I never really got to point it out.
- Would breaking Athena's black locks the way they did count as forcing them? She was fine (pun intended) only moments after the truth being uncovered while she should have been mentally messed up according to Pearl.
- What ever happened to the jurist system that was supposed to be in place after Apollo Justice.
- How is Apollo's bracelet not responding all the time? Pretty much every witness lies all day long but he only seems to notice it when he runs out of evidence. Are there specific reasons I missed?

That said, the game was fantastic. To me, the climax was at the point where Phoenix was almost ready to give up and there seemed to be no other possible killer than Athena. Such a heavy moment with that nightmarish picture. It would've served for quite an original ending, comparable to the miracle that never happen.

I thought Apollo Justice's bracelet didn't respond when someone was lying, but it responded specifically when someone had a nervous tic associated with a lie.

I think as far Ace Attorney's ever gonna get to that is the skin tone of Lotta Hart, Rimes and that AAI2 case 1 journalist.
I'm pretty sure Lotta Hart is supposed to be represent someone that's from Osaka. Her skin isn't even tanned. I won't comment on Nicole Swift, but i'll just say that I didn't really get that sense from her (though i'm too goddamned scared to check out her wiki/concept art, hahaha)

I'll agree with you on Rimes though. There's a little ambiguity on his ethnicity, but after his transformation, there's next to no doubt.

The same reason why Athena didn't sense any discord in Fullbright's voice and why Phoenix's magatama is inconsistent.

:p

I'm pretty sure Crab and a lot of characters like Vincent from Catherine and Trauma Team characters are based of Spike Spiegal since he's pretty much an icon and design trope now.

Why isn't Phoenix's homeless attire not part of the game yet? That'd be like the first thing I'd think of for costumes.

I was a little disappointed they still didn't try and make a black character, especially given the homages to famous rappers.

You have to remember that this game originally takes place in Japan, which is rather homogenized in terms of ethnicity. I think Rimes is gonna be the closest this series will get toward having a black character.
