Starbound Beta Thread - Begins December 4th!

Please do or pm me it. For the sake of my finger. Thanks!

Code:
F1::
alt := not alt
if(alt)
{
Click down
}
else
{
Click up
}

F1 is the key you press once to start mining, and press again when you wish to stop. You can change it to whatever you want (AHK gets priority over games so in Starbound for example F1 that would normally hide the GUI is not used); letters/numbers are best avoided because it'll start pressing LMB if you use them to type into chat.

And of course you'll need AutoHotkey installed, you can either make a new .ahk file with Notepad or just use the default one: right click the AHK logo on taskbar, 'Edit this Script' and paste the above. Then save and 'Reload this Script' and pressing F1 should start holding your left mouse button down.

Is there a Mac alternative for this?

Is there a way to place 1x1 blocks other than cutting away at the 2x2 blocks you normally set down?

EDIT: forgot I came to this thread to post my own question, is there a way to use a consumable directly from the inventory? I keep having to put something in my hotbar, use it, and then fix my hotbar again, and it's annoying

Not as far as I know. It's annoying, but it seems like the only way to "consume" something right now.

you don't need to hotbar it, just click not in the inventory screen. like just off to the side

So I bought the game and all and tried for a bit. The game's fps gets pretty bad for me when some enemies get on screen. Granted I didn't play much since I have work tonight and tomorrow night. By the way, I'm using a 2009 MacBook Pro if that means anything.
And I'm still getting use to playing with mouse and keyboard haha! I'm so slow with it.

So what do the different colored stimulants do? I have a few red, yellow, and blue ones and don't want to waste them after trying a yellow one and getting a buff of some sort yet I still didn't know what it did.

Anyone? I can't find it on the wiki or Google. What do the stims do? I'm assuming one is for health but the others?

Holy crap, moons really are unforgiving at night in terms of temperature. I found an anchor in the ground, so I know an airship is above me, but since it's night my temp drops so fast I have to wait until the sun rises again.

Red gives regeneration, blue gives boosted jump. That's all I've found so far

Yellow is glowing and green is speed boost. Same colors as the weird temp buff capsules.

Also, holy shit, the snow gear is actually useful for exploring this moon. Just crafted a full set and I'm so much warmer now.

Been digging for a while now but iron seems to be scarce where I am T_T

Hmmm, Avian sky pirates aren't hostile. Nice surprise, as is the weapon & armor blueprints and the 10 dps sniper rifle I picked up. Gonna keep these guys alive. They're nice.

Did everyone notice the Livestreaming option built into the game? Its on F6

Haven't played since last weekend (final exams) and just started my new post wipe character today. Beat 2 bosses and already have better armor after 6 hours then I did during my 12 hours spent before the patch. Either I'm getting better at min-maxing the systems or they sped up progression by a bunch.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has their hand/mouse killed by slow mining. Even though I try not to hold the button down too hard, I can FEEL the carpal tunnel developing!

Since the devs seem to pay attention to mods, maybe they could add a mining toggle option. :P

So once you kill the first boss and upgrade your anvil what's the next step? Upgrade ship and....?

Go to the entire new map segment that opens
Kill its natives and pillage its ore
Build all the new recipes, especially the one with no obvious use
(that last one is another boss that's key to another crafting upgrade and new map)

Speaking of which, I looted a stim selling NPC spawner from an ape lab. Sadly NPCs do not respawn when killed by monsters...

thank you, sir.

hmm, can't get this to work. not sure what i'm doing wrong. I just pasted that in the above and nothing.
this works outside the game, just not in starbound. weird.

Typically I only had success with auto key in any game... windowed mode.

I just discovered this game today and it looks cool.

Is there much sci-fi stuff apart from the space ship?

Not really, no. The sci-fi part consists of interstellar travel, but it's not like you can freeroam across the universe flying your ship around. You set a destination and the ship warps there. There is no other action involved. Once you arrived you can beam down to check the planet out. You can't use your ship to map the planet or check for resources or anything.

When you say entire new map that opens...

Where is that?

Listening to the Giantbomb Bombcast right now, Vinny has this brilliant idea about enslaving people on a planet and making them dig for ore while you go explore other planets.

Genius.

Hey that would be great...in a nasty way :P

You could do it with something like that wiring tool. Subdue someone, set a special block in a cave and use the wiring tool thing to leash them too it.
