Thanks for the impressions, sorry for the delayed response. I'm waiting to give the demo a proper try myself after I'm done with Stick it to the man, not familiar with Scribblenauts but that does sound like fun with the right mood. Not too bothered with the framerate drops if it doesn't affect gameplay too much? How's the puzzle challenge/difficulty aspect of the gameplay? I know it's something hard to rate.

No prob and framerate drops are bad but it didnt stop me from playing. Game aint that challenging, more like makes you think like NPC wants this then make it or NPC wants a hug, give em hug. Stuff like that. Its more of laidback experience IMO.

SCOFF at all of this Vita negativity I'm seeing in threads as of late.

SCOFF.

I'll always love you, Vita. Always.

The vita is really getting some punches here and there which is rather sad. The naysayers are missing out on a hell of a handheld.

Remote play pro grip accessory would be amazing. I hope something comes to fruition. Maybe even have it boost the wifi for better remote play signal

Conflicted feelings
Do I have love or hatred?
This is Spelunky

Why do I play you?
Remove from thoughts, Spelunky.
Or do you play me?

You promise great fun
But I always die so fast
You love to tease me

Xenogears - 1 hour

Never played this game...Sweet...Mother...of...God...

Could I love this game any more? Probably not. The graphics are old yes but they have this odd painterly feel to them that I really love. The story is also great, as is the music and gameplay. Absolutely fantastic. Funny too.

Does it get better? Can it? $6 for this game? I would pay $60.
I wish I could experience Xenogears for the first time again. I envy you. You have absolutely no idea what kind of ride you're about to embark upon.

Virtua Tennis 3 on PSP vs. Virtua Tennis 4 on Vita

VT4 is one of the platform's best ports. It's content complete, 60fps, native res, and has additional content.

I heard it was on sale before but I missed it. man I really want that game. So I'm waiting for it to go on sale.
It's been 39.99$ since like forever lol

So much truth here

Just make sure to get all the way through eventually even if you're not hooked

Spelunky is my bedtime jam on Vita at the moment. The Jungle is ruining me. I only just managed to get into the ice area once. Got a good taste of what I'm in for now >.<;

I am so awful
World Two is only a dream
Haiku's aren't my thing

Actually, Spelunky is one of only a few games where I really don't mind dying too much. It is kind of like Hotline Miami. When I die - I'm typically thinking to myself how dumb I just was. Not many "cheap" deaths in either game and they are both (usually) fun to jump right back into. Guess its because the amount of time spent playing doesn't feel wasted to me due to the randomness of Spelunky and the short levels of Hotline Miami.

VT4 is definitely one of those games that sadly do not get recommended enough around here. Great game even for people who generally dislike sports games like me.
Is it? I generally don't like sports games either, but I kind of like Tennis.

And I ended up loving Hot Shots Golf on Vita (first time I played it). I've been hoping for a Hot Shots Tennis.

Is the game still worth picking up?

you're really awful
making all of these haiku
man.... now i am too :/

As for spelunky, I wish it had a bit more progression between plays... I can only play it when I am not sucking horribly at it as otherwise i am just wasting my time lol.

Playing Spelunky reminds me of when I ran a "Call of Cthulhu" RPG campaign in the '80s. I kept a log of all the horrible ways that the PCs would die and reading through it was a shared experience by everyone of sadness and loss... but also of absolute hilarity (as anyone familiar with the "Cthulhu Mythos" would know).

Anyway - a shame that the game doesn't keep lasting screenshots of your deaths for you to look at later. Maybe I should see if I can capture the screenshot with my Vita? Hmmm....

Get that tunnel made!

I usually play for about an hour at a time. Anything else beyond that and I start to play worse. It's great for short sessions.

It was actually way worst the first few months of the vita launch. I am talking about the forums.

I eventually just learnt to ignore the haters. Fact is. Games are still coming out for the system and I have been quite happy with it the past 2 years. What others feel are irrelevant to my interests.

In any case, releases for the next year is looking solid to me. So it is looking likely I will be a satisfied vita owner next year as well.

Hot Shots Tennis: Get A Grip is one of my favourite PSP games. So if you can handle the way Vita upscales PSP games I'd go for it, assuming it isn't still $20 like it was at launch. It has a RPG-lite adventure mode where you travel the work spreading the love of tennis. The gameplay is very arcadey and easy to get in to but hard to master like the HSG games.

Virtua Tennis 4 is great too. I've already praised the technical aspects of the game, but like I said earlier, it's a feature complete port with online, career, and mini-game modes. The game plays a bit more realistically than Hot Shots Tennis, but I felt it was easier to master the AI than HST. I still had a lot of fun with it, and recommend people to check it out whenever it gets a price cut on PSN. I bought it during the $30 sale back in the summer of 2012.

Both games have demos, but VT4's is exclusive to Japan IIRC, and for some reason Vita can't play PSP demos.

I liked virtua tennis 4 way better than hot shots tennis. There's more variety in the gameplay with the meta boardgame mechanics and the quirky minigames. Doesn't hurt that it also looks fabulous. I'd say any vita owner should get VT4 first before looking at other games.

How's the career mode? I don't really know anything about Tennis other than Wii Sports but VitaGAF keeps insisting I get this :P

Thanks! I'll probably pick up both now at some point. xD They both sound fun, especially Hot Shots Tennis. I like RPG-lite adventure modes.

Probably VT4 first, since native Vita games are more appealing for me. Checked the store for HST: Get a Grip and it's currently $15 on PSN (NA). Holy balls, VT4 is $40 still. xD Was going retail anyway, but yeesh!

Wish Sony would have more first party sales for their PSP games.

edit: Whoa, Hot Shots Tennis is only $5 on amazon.ca (From amazon itself even!) Ordered it with Silent Hill for Vita... and a CD.

I might pick up a retail copy of Tearway next week in addition to my digital version. The game deserves better. :/
If you do, I am gonna randomly count it as my copy of Tearaway so vita owners stop threating me for not buying tearaway and having no plans to buy it >.>

as for the game line up for the vita, it's fine to me... the vita line up is better than the wiiu, ps4, 3ds, and xbox 360 line ups combined for the next 3 months lol (Ps3 and PC have better line ups for me)

The reason i loved the psp was for niche japanese games, if that is all I get on the vita I will be fine with that. I would rather have a game like disgaea over a game like monster hunter any day of the week :P

That thread is terrible
It is akin to suggestion that Nintendo should stop supporting Wii U and release new console instead

Pretty sure I've seen some people actually suggest that.

Hyperbole and stupidity is never lacking every time people get a glimpse at sales figures.

The problem with a lot of the people who post on video game forums is they think they've acquired Fortune 500 level business acumen simply by playing computer games and reading about them a lot.

Why should it depress you? You liked the game, bought it and enjoyed it. Its not your job to market the game to the masses, asides from just discussing it on forums. Dont let shit like that bother you or else you never are going to enjoy anything with gaming, seriously.

You want the devs to be happy? Enjoy the title as thats obviously the reason why they created it, not to do gangbusters like the latest pewpewpew of the hour. If they wanted money as the main goal they wouldnt have done something as unique as this.

Well, I feel the same when books that I found amazing don't sell well, or when I read about an artist that was (in my opinion) and absolute genious and didn't live enough to get his work recognised. The latter can be kinda extreme, but what I mean is that I consider that the game is worth every sale it can get. When something is so good you want to show it and recommend it to other people.

And everytime we see a game like Pupeteer, Tearaway, Rayman Legends or W101 bombing, we are near to a future where any publisher funds a game which isn't a shooter / popular franchise. We'd probably still have Nintendo and Sony (to a lesser extend) doing this kind of games, but the other publishers won't greenlight most of those titles.

Well, at least indies are jumping to 3D development.

Might as well post this before it disappears.

A French vita owner is prototyping a vita l2/r2/l3/r3 add on for RP. Hopefully he completes it.

Ah top of page thing: Buy Tearaway, Doki Doki Universe and rainbow moon

I'll spent a maximum of 50 euros for that thing if it works once I buy a PS4. Right now I don't really need it, though. The only games I could play using PS3 RP are some of my old turn based JRPGs which don't use extensively R2/3/L2/3

Save your time and energy for the discussions that matter my friend. You can go in those threads and argue those guys up a tree but they've already made up their minds, why bother?

Yep, go to the Live with Horses 3D thread, have some fun and leave GAF and don't look at the Vita threads. Too much Tearaway port begging.

I found that opinion kinda funny, too. I mean, there is some kind of "logic" behind the idea, but a hardware maker does not support its system with games looking for maximun profit.

Obviously, they want to make money, but adding value to the platform is important. And I don't think they'll stop supporting the platform completely until 2 years or so. They'll bring niche japanese first party titles, release 1 or 2 big games every year and promote indies for a while. DreamCasting a platform too early isn't good for you public image, even if it's tanking. I think it'll receive some kind of support from Sony in the West at least for 4 years (since it's release). They won't spend a huge amount of money, but won't leave it completely either.

I suppose that's part of the problem.
To me two of the major issues with people on video game forums are the inability to understand that biggest install base doesn't equal biggest software sales (aka the audience's wants is more important than the sheer number of people and kind of what you were saying... i think) as well as the problem being able to rationalize that not everyone shares the same opinions about games. That a game that they find to be terrible or not of interest to them, might be a quality game or of interest to many others. (or on the flip side that a game they love, others might legitimately hate)

You see so many, they should just make games for the 3ds instead of vita posts (much larger install base obviously would sell more), despite the fact that there are cases where the vita version outsold the 3ds version. and the vita thread itself is quite often guilty of the second one *points to the buy tearaway or I will hurt you posts littered throughout* :P To be fair I don't mind the recommendation stuff in this thread, but at times this thread can feel more like a vita cult then a vita thread lol.

obviously there are more issues people can have, but I find those two issues get in the way the most with my discussions with people.

To be fair, anyone that is paying attention to market trends could have easily seen all of those games not lighting up the sales charts from a mile away. That doesn't necessarily mean they bombed though. Well I suppose if you define bombing as merely not selling a crap ton of copies the did, but my personal definition of a bomb is that they failed to meet up to the logical expectations of a company given how much they invested into the game. And with all of those games it's quite possible that they aren't remotely bombs. None of those games likely had a huge budget, thus they don't need huge sales to recoup the costs. I mean Nis games routinely sell under 100k copies and they are doing just fine as it makes more than enough revenue for them. (does remind me of another thing that bothers me on forums, the general idea that any game that doesn't sell a million copies is a failure)

YOU HEATHEN!

YOU HEATHEN!

I must resist the adorableness...

:P

Anyways, I wish crunchyroll, funimation, and neon alley would get off their butts and get vita apps working... I'd never watch them on my consoles since i'd rather just watch them on the Pc, but I sure wouldn't mind having access to them on my vita to watch when the TV is busy or when I am not home :/

I want the Crunchyroll app too... and Crackle, and that's a Sony thing so... par for the course from Sony.

Did FUNimation say they were planning a Vita app at some point?

Also, I wish the Netflix app would be updated for profiles and preferably the new layout. But at least profiles. D:

funimation hasn't said that they are officially planning to support the vita, just that they are going to make console apps and in general try to get their service on every device that they can (aka they likely won't be on the vita but I can dream right)

neon alley hasn't said much about what they plan on doing in the future in general.

Crunchyroll has confirmed a vita app is coming soon twice in the last 13 months or so lol... the most recent time was like 2 months ago saying that the vita app was nearly done and will be coming out very soon.

How's the career mode? I don't really know anything about Tennis other than Wii Sports but VitaGAF keeps insisting I get this :P

Career mode is pretty robust. The end goal is to become one of the best tennis players in the world within a complete tour. You move around the globe in a board game like world map:

11364522684_bfdbe81d67_o.jpg

Movement on the map is done via a ticket system (see the right side of the above image) with numbers displaying how far you can move. Destinations vary between standalone tennis matches, stores, fan gatherings, hotels and tournaments. To replenish the tickets you either wait a day, or buy a specific ticket from the store. You earn money from successful practices and tournaments. Those map movements and tennis play do increase player fatigue, which will eventually affect your play on court. You can recharge by hitting the hotel, or buying a health pack from the store. Money is also used to learn new play styles, do fan promotions, and buy new gear.

Your immediate goal is to increase your star ranking to qualify for local tournaments. You do that by winning matches, and interacting with fans.

Practices include variations on tennis to increase certain skill sets. You might have to aim through a stack of plates to increase accuracy, guide chicks through an oncoming barrage of tennis balls and snakes to be demonstrate court positioning, etc.

Career mode can be used with a player created character, or one of the professionals in the game.

Perfected Velocity Ultra's main game, which I had already done before on PS3. Now for the side missions which I felt were tougher and never actually completed before. Gotta get dat plat.

Can anyone recommend me some good grips for the vita? anytime I play killzone for more than an hour, my hands start to hurt. I was looking at picking up the PDP grips link anyone have any experience with these or can recommend one better?

also I need some people to play either killzone or soul sacrifice online. add me on psn: sliceypete

=D Time for more Terraria tips!!
Damn Terraria robbed me of my sleep (after waiting for NPD leaks already did). Feel like a boss after crafting a gold pickaxe, mining is so fast now and fighting is also good with it.
Only sucks that now I feel the insatiable need to upgrade my axe and hammer because everything takes so long with them but I don't want to craft shabby silver ones I'll replace anyway.
I have read that there is better than gold

Got my little town going with a merchant and a demolition expert. Still no boss fight but I found the corrupted land. Could deal with the eaters if soul with my gold bow but am still afraid to explore it further.

There are a few tiers above gold, not counting Hardmode.
In any case, I usually prioritize sword, pick and possibly some armour for the highest tier of mats I have currently because that helps with survivability (though of course everyone plays differently and it could be worth it for you if you do a lot of building)

OMG, Terraria is so great. I don't know what I am doing just hacking away blocks and doing practically nothing but I just want to keep doing it.

Explored a chasm in the corruption, which took me quite some time to get down there just to die because I did something wrong at the bottom.
Also found the jungle and it is brutal. So many enemies spawn there, it is quite annoying. No time for resting.

Still heaven't found a additional heart and I don't know what to use my mana for? At least I now found a way to summon a boss but need to work on it more.

I am very happy that it came to the Vita and I bought it. Wouldn't have played it on the PC but for a handheld it is perfect.
Also probably sold two copies of the game
on iOS
showing it to my nephews, one of them is a huge Minecraft fan.
If you haven't got one yet, a grapple hook or any of the variations helps with avoiding deaths from falls and is super useful for exploring caves and chasms. You can craft it, but it needs a drop from
skeletons, if you haven't seen them yet keep going down.

If you want, some general pointers for where to go (I know some people like to explore and find stuff on their own so I will spoiler everything coming up) As you mentioned that you haven't found any heart crystals yet,
I'm assuming you either haven't reached the caverns or you have explored enough of the caverns. Just keep digging down or find entrance to caves on the surface till you hit cave systems and EXPLORE. Down is always a good way to go, once the back wall turns from brown to grey that's the caverns layer and you get quite a lot more ore veins there as well as cabins (the random rooms with wooden walls and chests with LOOTS!!! =D) Heart crystals usually just sit at a bottom of a cave (or sometimes at the bottom of pools as well so check the underground lakes too). Just be careful once you start getting a lot of lava pools because Hell will be close. (and probably time to bail out and explore other biomes first)

Bosses get activated after some requirements are met, usually around when you've explored quite a bit of the underground. (Or you can summon them so you can fight them on your own terms, which is good because that way you're prepared for the fight)

Corruption tips:
-good (silver-gold) weapon to kill everything following you
-grapple so you don't fall and die
-explosives for breaking shadow orbs and ebonstone (can't mine unless you get higher tier pickaxes)
-remember easy to get to demon altars because they're useful

Floating islands have good loot, but finding them takes some effort. (Building sky bridges is one way but time consuming)
Underground jungle is hard. Enter at own discretion. Probably better to try after corruption and some bosses.

Mana is used for Magic weapons, found in chests in most biomes. (Can craft magic staves in early game but that's 1.2)
Beds set your spawn point as long as it fits home requirements. (Good if your base is far from a biome you're exploring)
Flaming arrows are good for bonus damage

OK should probably stop this post is getting long.
Aw yeah! Persona 4 came! Let me just put this baby in. Huh. It's not reading it, let me see...
Huge gashes in the gamecard on the little golden parts. All worn to hell.
Sigh.
That sucks D= Hope you manage to get a refund.
I assume you're talking about the game all the way to the left?
That made me giggle when I imagined Mario saying 'Happy Bouncy Time'
Switch to Plan B: Learn Japanese.
I've tried to learn Japanese on my own a few times but keep losing motivation after a while. :( Maybe should try and get proper lessons. Want to read some visual novels that have no chance of getting localized so badly.

Damn all this VT4 talk. I think I'll fire up my copy today, play a few exhibition matches to brush up on my skills. I've only scratched the surface with the career mode (great progression system). I feel bad for neglecting this game :(

I'm definitely jumping onto the Vita bus this coming payday. Not sure whether to get a £99 refurb from GAME and get a 32Gb card (I've been hoarding Vita games from PS+) or get the Tearaway/LittleBigPlanet/16Gb card bundle from Amazon at £149.

I'd get a 32gb personally. 16gb is not enough to satiate the ps+ beast.

We're going to have a lot more vita indie fans by next year:

Luftrausers
Eufloria HD
Don't Starve
Binding of Isaac
Terraria
Dustforce
OlliOlli
TxK
Mutant Mudds
Rogue Legacy
Minecraft
Hotline Miami 2
Starbound
Velocity 2x
Fez?
Snapshot?

Forgot Bit.Trip Runner 2 and Road Not Taken.

Played the hell out of the bolded on PC, can't wait to have them on the go. The Vita is a dream machine for us indie fans.

Is Valhalla Knights 3 worth $19?

How's the combat, like Monster Hunter or a traditional RPG?

It depends on your degree of tolerance for faults(or at least certain ones), most of the people looking at VK3 see only its faults, since the start i saw the good it could gave to me(but TBH i played VK2 so in part i already knew what to expect)

For me it was totally worth the 29€ i spent, IIRC i played exclusively to it for almost 80 hours, if you can tolerate its faults and unusual choices it can be extremely addictive imo.

Sadly i can't suggest it with light heart, especially with today's gamers that can be extremely squeamish and can blindly hate a good game for a single really small fault.

Maybe a good idea is to wait for the gold edition(if it will be localized) that at least promise to shorten loading times.

Fights? On the field there are 2 kind of enemies:

-monsters(really few types): they are all on the field
-parties(the focus of the game): only the leader is on the field, a party is composed of unique characters with their own race, class, abilities etc exactly like your party.

Enemies don't usually attack you, you need to attack them to start a fight, at this point appear a circle that limits the battlefield and all the members of the parties appear, you can control any character of your party, whatever the result fights always lasts less than a minute.
