Good to know though. Jak II is janky for sure, but I love it!
My main problem with Jak II, isn't really that they changed gears. I don't mind that like some do. I just hate *hate* the open world. It's too big. It takes far too long to go to a mission start, then go to the area to do the mission, then go allllllll the way back to finish it.

Horrible. Not big on the checkpoints either, but meh. I could have tolerated that if it weren't for the dern open world.

I did get further in Jak II than I ever have on Vita though. So there's that. Despite the wonky rear touch controls.

TBH that Vita screen doesn't blow me away, I think it's pretty good but I never get all the "dat OLED" comments. It might be because the screens I'm used to are my Panasonic plasma, retina iPads and iPhone and an S4 though.

If anything, the anomaly is how mediocre my 3DS looks compared to the rest.

So, what is preventing screenshot functionality being added to PSP/PS1 games. I would love to take screenshots while playing all of my games. I'm assuming licensing issues.

Also, on the topic of 2000 VS 1000; I ended up selling my brother my launch OLED Vita so I can purchase another OLED VIta. The minor improvements made in the 2000 series isn't worth the loss of the OLED screen.

I heard people say the battery life is only like an hour extra? An extra hour of vita is pretty sweet but it's 100% lcd...Although it does look like a decent screen.

I'm not sure how people/Sony measure the Vita's battery life, but I've noticed massive differences in mileage depending on what game I'm playing. Something like AC3:L or KZM seemed to kill the battery fairly fast, while the less intensive/non-wifi using games feel like they could run for hours and hours more. It just seems a bit disingenuous giving the console these hard and fast figures when not everything behaves like that.

Gaming handheld screens are typically nothing too special, and Vita's is fantastic. So that's where that stuff comes from. Now, I have all kinds of great devices with high resolution OLED and IPS screens, but I still think Vita's screen looks amazing.

If I played it today, I'd no doubt find it mediocre, but hell it was my childhood. I wasn't allowed GTA... so it was a decent surrogate!

Tearaway? Ugh, that game is gross!

What, with the disgustingly amazing art style, sickeningly charming story, absurdly smooth and tight controls, stupidly clever level design, and its obnoxious ability to put a smile on your face as you play it.

Just thinking about it makes me grin. Awful! :P

Anyway, I'm currently playing through Ys Seven on my Vita, in anticipation of Ys Memories of Celceta, which I have sitting in my Vita, begging to be booted up. I know I don't have to play Seven to get Celceta, but I'm pretty far along:
I just defeated the Earth Dragon, and am on my way to talk to the other dragons to get their blessing
, and I want to start actually completing all these Vita games I have. Even so, I'm still going to pick up Terraria on Tuesday. I generally don't double or triple dip on games, but I love me some Terraria, so I'm triple dipping. I was hoping they've some kind of discount for those that bought the PS3 version already.

Vita screens are actually a little inconsistent. The other three I've seen have had some faintly visible vertical lines, the one I have right now has a near perfect screen without many of those mura blotches.

The Vita 2000s should've done what the new 3DS LLs do. The "inner face" is still black, but the buttons have the same colour as the "outer face". Like so:

Somehow it makes a world of difference! Or, at least, the bases of the buttons should be coloured on the V2000s, since the buttons themselves are transparent.

It is, I couldnt stand it when I played it on my Wii but the Vita version, damn, that combat is fast, furious and when you do it right you can slice through enemies like a hot knife through butter while dodging, rolling etc and coming out unscathed.

Is dodging still Down->Down diagonal or does it have some less awkward input?

Mine has really bad lines. Regret being so lazy in getting it fixed, now its far too late.

Picked up Tearaway at GS and got what I assume was the preorder bonus, not bad.

Back in 2005 PSP had an amazing display.

That looks cool! Also, where in the world are your impressions of Tearaway? I haven't seen you post about it since you had just started! Did you like it?

Yeah, that's true.

Haha, 3DS has some good qualities, but that screen quality is not one of them :P

It sure does -- it gave me a competent top-down 2D zelda game and... uh... um... wait. Was there more? ;)

--

It's funny, I want to buy Terraria now for some reason, I'm getting the itch to play it... and yet, thankfully, I only have $11 or so in my PSN wallet, so that's not happening.
Guess we'll see what Tuesday brings. :D

I take that as a yes.

Hah I am in the exact same situation. My Celceta LE is just sitting unopened on a chair because I want to finish Ys Seven first (fantastic game, I love the boss battle theme, makes me feel like such a badass)

Alright guys, could someone please give me their full take on the performance for Jak and Daxter on Vita? (I don't really care about Jak 2 and 3) I have been reading some responses and the main gist that most everyone is sharing is "its not that bad". I have watched some youtube videos and it sometimes seems unplayable in a number of cases. Would I be let down since I am so spoiled with the performance of the PS3 version? Thanks!

It's only me that I'm thinking that Ys Seven is kinda boring? Oath in Felghana was so much better. I'm still in the beginning of the game (Just got
Mustafa
on my party), but not having the urge to continue like Ys Chronicles and Felghana.

Terraria, Tearaway, and he's giving us impressions of the DBZ demo too. Is Eufloria HD this week for US as well? If so...that is an awesome game. Oh I misread what he said for some reason. Yeah give frost another few days for Terraria. VanWinkle though...

I have a feeling now I'm getting a Vita Minecraft will take months to come out. I want it so bad!

It probably will take months I think, we haven't had a solid date yet that I'm aware of...Hopefully not too long. Plenty to keep you settled till then.

Having some fun just now with a paper goomba:

Impressions non-existent beyond that :(

I haven't actually played almost any games in the last couple weeks.

Pretty janky frame-rate, noticeably stuttering. Stopped me from playing it. If you're sensitive to that kind of stuff it's pretty bad. If not, then I guess it's playable. That you raise this question seems to indicate otherwise though. However, I literally only played the first stage before I decided it was a hot mess. Perhaps it gets better?

Yeah, Seven is really, really good. I'm very much enjoying it. I couldn't resist, and opened up my LE, and now the cart is in my Vita. Lol. I'm hoping to have it finished by the end of this week, if not earlier. I've been a little busy this weekend, but I think I can devote a few hours to it tonight.

I just bought Hotline Miami, I'd never played it before tonight... thing of beauty. Just played the first two levels so far but really loving it.

And the reason that I still am impressed by this game to this day (for PS2 and PS3) is because of its consistent quality throughout the experience (i.e. framerate, graphics, charm, etc.). It sounds like the vita version may not meet my expectations, shame. :\

Thanks for the feedback

Hmm, alot of Terraria talk going on, have never really considered it but I have hear some good things. Somebody sell me on the game in one word...

Nice list, Sly is definitely something I want and i'll more than likely end up avoiding Batman now.

Heres mine not that I played a huge amount of games that came out this year, a lot I played was 2012

Best of 2013

1) Muramasa Rebirth - Gorgeous visuals, great combat and extremely compelling stories for both characters.

2) Tearaway - Wow, what can I say, this game was worth the wait. An all round charming game with one of the best soundtracks in recent memory. A superb platformer that drew me in and left me smiling from ear to ear. One where upon completion I really felt sorrow at having finished my journey with Iota :(

3) Jak and Daxter: Precursor Legacy (havent played 2 and 3 yet) - One of the best 3D platformers I have played, only bettered by the Mario titles and now Tearaway. Great worl, likeable characters, funny etc this is a superb game and imo Naughty Dogs best.

4) Thomas was Alone - A great puzzle platforming gameplay with more character than most games even though they're only blocks! Excellent story and narration

5) Limbo - Stylish and compelling. Some great sequences and devious puzzles towards the end.

6) Guacamelee - Enjoyable Metroidvania stule game with great combat. A bit sort but what was there was great.

Worst of 2013

1) Dragons Crown - After loving Muramasa I thought this might challenge for my best of 2013 but it just didnt do anything for me. The combat was not enjoyable and the game left a lot to be desired in comparison to Muramasa.

edit - Thought Lego LOTR came out in 2013, but that was the iOS version, so removed from my list.

glad I'm not the only one who disliked DC (I know there are many others but can't speak because they are scared of corro) :p

but yeah DC is a mess. people should avoid it.

This is by far the biggest gaming disappointment of the year for me. It's leading me to believe Retro struck lightning with Metroid Prime. Blackgate could have been so good.

It's weird, I mean if it was a lesser metroid I can get behind it. but it's so damn awful like from some inexperienced indie devs on android and not ex-lead of Retro as the game do almost every bad mistake in the book.

Copying Totobenis format:

Best Vita games in 2013 (That I've Played)
1- Persona 4:Golden: Game of the year. I loved the charachters, the story, the music and the combat. It was my first Persona game, and I've put over 170 hours into it.
2- Tearaway: A game that simply felt fantastic from start to finish.
3- Bit Trip presents: Runner 2: I played the Wii U version (I know the vita version comes next week, and I will double dip), but I really loved this game. I usually don't like rhythm games, but for some reason I loved this one.
4- EDF 2017 portable: Perfect game for killing time & giant ants.
5- Velocity Ultra: Fun, and great for pick up and play. Perfect game for a handheld
6- Killzone: Mercenary: Looks absolutely amazing, and I've enjoyed both the singleplayer and the multiplayer
7- Flower: I originally played this earlier on ps3, but the vita version was great. Would've ranked it higher if I hadn't played it before. Love the art, and it's a really relaxing game.
8- Thomas was Alone: I loved the narrative. The game was easy but charming
9-Rayman Legends: I'm still playing it, and it looks and plays great, but I prefer Origins. Don't like the murphy levels.
10- Limbo: Another example of indie games that are best on vita. I own this on PC as well, just never played it. The atmosphere is just great as well

Worst Vita games in 2013 (that I've played)

- Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time: Just boring. It was too simple, playing as other characters than Sly was awful.
- Proteus: It's like Minecraft, just without anything fun to do

I'm still waiting on a sale for the Atelier games, and I haven't picked up Muramasa yet. I also haven't started Dragon's Crown

P4G..oh Europe you guys are always behind the great US Empire :)

kept jonno and yours posts without because people should read them since they includes many great games Vita owners should buys. (better than fighting about screens)

I have a feeling now I'm getting a Vita Minecraft will take months to come out. I want it so bad!

If you owned the 360 version of Minecraft, you'd know that 4J Studios(The people making the port for ps4/vita/ps3) can't make a deadline for its life. The updates for 360 minecraft were always 1-3 months late without fail. And those are just updates....

1. Guacamelee
2. Tearaway
3. Velocity Ultra
4. Persona 4: Golden

I think those are the only 2013 Vita games I played. They really are fine in any order as they're all 9 out of 10s.

It's only me that I'm thinking that Ys Seven is kinda boring? Oath in Felghana was so much better. I'm still in the beginning of the game (Just got
Mustafa
on my party), but not having the urge to continue like Ys Chronicles and Felghana.

Well Ys Seven was my introduction to the series so I can't really compare them to Chronicles/ Oath as I haven't played them.
