I think Sakurai will aim for 60fps 2D and 3D, like Mario Kart. Hopefully he will achieve it.

Likely. Tekken was 60fps, and that was made by the same Namco team, so they have no excuses.

After Sakurai mentioned the issues with team character, so I had to ask, "What about Ice Climbers?" Also I would like to mention that Tekken don't have items, 4 characters, stages that are in motions, etc

Yeah, I wouldn't say I'm confident. But I think at the very least, the team will attempt 60fps 3D, so if they fail it probably won't be for lack of trying or effort.
 
I feel that if Sakurai aims for 60fps in 3D, he'll just reduce the IQ to help with that. I believe Tekken Tag 2 reduces IQ when there are more than 2 characters on screen at once to maintain the 60fps.

Did Sakurai ever elaborate if the issue had to do with the partner AI, or if having that many characters running at the same time caused framerate issues? It could be understandable if, say, 4 players using Ice Climbers (total 8 then) with stage, music, items and ATs/Pokeballs proves to be a lot for either the 3ds CPU or GPU, especially if it's in 3D, not to mention the background OS running. Captain Olimar could be a similar case, but the Pikmin seem to have simpler AI, judging from Brawl.

*Disclaimer* I'm no hardware expert =p Just thinking about all of the things the 3ds would have to handle in such a case

Yeah I can def see frames dropping in those matches, maybe not sub-20s but it might be alot to def be jarring

Yeah, there's good reason to be optimistic since ALBW maintained a constant 60 fps in 3D (at least in my experience) no matter how many things were going on at once. But Sora and Namco have their work cut out since they'll be having to also deal with multiplayer connectivity and maybe network codes if the 3ds has online play.

I think they'll achieve it; I've heard rumours that Sakurai's cat has a Master's in CPMew-ing ^^
 
ALBW was also low poly as FUCK.

To be honest, the only observations I could make on that that would be qualitative, but comparing

doesn't show an ENORMOUS polygon difference between the games. Mind you, I picked that ALBW pic to show how a good number of the polys aren't very noticable, while I went ahead and found the "busiest" 3ds Smash pics I could find. A few of the boss battles in ALBW approach the quantity in that 2nd Smash pic, namely

Moldorm
, and
The Flowery Desert Palace Boss

we should also point out we've seen little to no footage of these stages in motion, especially that kid icarus stage which we know will get bombed in the background

there is just no way a game as busy as smash is going to manage it
 
So will Sakurai be taking an upcoming week off for the holidays? Hopefully we'd get a character before then and I really hope we don't have to wait till the 26th for Zelda.

I agree with you on the point that Smash is going to be busier than ALBW, but now I'm curious to see just how busy one can get ALBW. I'll have to test that out soon!
 
Has anybody ever considered that Sakurai may add a Fossil Fighters character? I mean, it was a new IP introduced after Brawl came out.

Just the other day I said how T-Rex, the "mascot", would be an awesome character simply for being a T-Rex.

If we get any character reveal at all on a standard weekday, it would be a veteran. Due to how few newcomers this game will have compared to past installments, any new character releases will likely be saved for Nintendo Directs and other conferences of the sort. I'm expecting to see Meta Knight, Diddy, or Zelda relatively soon.

Magnus and Chrom would be awesome, though.
