"This will be in the next update"

Put two and two together with all the wiring and buttons and the lack of obvious stairways on the new ship models and you've got.. elevators?

Maybe they're background objects like old NES games; press up to walk into the background object and then it teleports you up to the other door. Not perfect, but It'll make multi-floor structures more interesting.

LIES. Your only reason for living is to build cool buildings.

That's usually reason enough, but I usually have to invent reasons (I need a place for this NPC, I need a place to keep x items, etc.). I'd like it if they had a few built in.

5.6% chance of getting a superior brain. There's an 80% chance of getting a brain in the first place and a 7% chance of it being superior.

Wow for real? I got mine first try and a mate wasn't able to get any and had like 20 inferior brains so I tried again and another first try. About 5 later I got another one spare just in case, not sure how I feel about that haha

Tiy just tweeted this, concerning ship upgrades:

Well, looks like the only reason I have left for building structures is making a town of NPCs. However, looking at that last ship upgrade, it looks like it would almost fit a reasonable number of villagers. Considering I've already got a chef running around in my current ship, might be an interesting idea, especially if you can make most of your ship "expensive" like they were talking about merchants upgrading their stock.

It functions, like most games, as an escape from the soul crushing void that appears in the human heart when you wake up and realize that in the grand scheme of things your entire life is ultimately meaningless.

Fuck me. When you say it like that I realize there's no escape from that meaninglessness. Oh well... Atleast I get to have sex in real life.

Sorry if this is a spoiler for you
but there are NPC / Guard spawners you can build. But I'm guessing you knew that because I'm LIGHT YEARS behind most regular posters here. I do agree with you though, I would love to build a town.

As well, is wiring going to be the 'red stone,' of Starbound? That'll be cool to play with.

I haven't actually built a wiring gun, but I don't think it's as complicated as Redstone in Minecraft. It's probably just linking a switch with whatever can be interacted (doors for example) without the need to place wires in the background.

The way they talked about it with the NPC scanning the surrounding blocks that the house is made of sounds like it could easily be abused on the ship (unless size matters too or they make some special rules for the ship)

But yeah, right now with those ships upgrades that's one less incentive to build on a planet, and there is literally no incentive at all to build on a low threat level planet since monsters on higher ones will always be a better source of income for Pixels.

Thanks. Tried to fight the boss with melee downy work so well.

Can this be added into an existing save? I have a mod that adds estus flasks..neat but they are just better bandages. Though have to make the bonfire with sword.

unless your impervium tier you should be fine

Servers. Seriously. On a server you can have a base where everyone can gather. And you don't want to put this on a threat 10 planet off in the depths of the X Sector because of lower level players. If it's in Alpha, everyone can gather and build cool stuff.

Also, assuming the upcoming ability to teleport directly to your home planet works as I expect(you can warp to your home planet from the ship while leaving your ship where it's at), the negatives of having it on a lower level planet are pretty much gone. Since you could remain parked in X Sector and just warp over to the alpha home planet. This does, however, rely on the feature working that way.

Unless pixel rewards and costs both go through the roof, I can't see that ever being an issue. By the time I finished γ I was sitting on around a thousand each of gold and silver ore that had no use other than refining, and on level 5 planets there's huge piles of diamonds and platinum just sitting out in the open.

Now, when the highest pixel cost item currently in the game runs 6400, and it's a one-time purchase... If anything, I'd be more inclined to build on a low-level planet just to reduce headaches while gardening.

Nah, I have an Hylotl doctor running around my Single Player base (I consider him my own Dr. Zoidberg). But unlike Terraria, the NPCs here seem pretty unimportant (of course, most of the NPCs in Terraria were too, but they were at least unique). I see NPCs in Starbound as being an aesthetic thing, since I haven't found one yet who sells anything unique (not that I've seen a lot).

As for wiring, instead of redstone it appears you'll simply click nodes on any wireable object and just link them with the wiring tool. You can see it in this video, around the 50 second mark; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU56Kh731Q0

Ahh, kind of cool. Glad you made it already, saves me the time/pixels with the spawner.

Tidus laugh would make a pretty good Wilhelm scream. Just randomly mixed in the background audio in bar scenes and stuff.

Wonder if that's allowed or they would have to open up the rights first.

I admit I got a hearty laugh out of the Tidus mod. :D

Such perfection. Tempted to copy for future reference and paste it every time someone asks a similar question about a game.

Oh yeah, loving these so much. They look so much better than the old upgrade models (something I was concerned about). The gunner posts and recent comments about ship-to-shop combat are making me think of FTL and feel all tingly.
