On our way to happiness!

Are they all grabbing their crotches?

Those sex crazed blacks sure are sex crazed.

Is that a sex crazed blacks exclusive cruise ship?

Looks like fun.

Really surprised by this. The publicists for the show/channel have tried to keep a lid on their views for ages, and were pretty successful.

Translation: "Things were better when they knew their place!"

I await the eventual defense of his statement by RacistGAF.

Calm down, he might be right. I think we have been a little entitled lately. My New Years resolution is to want less things. I don't think I need as many rights as I have, really.

I thought that was way worse than the part bolded in the OP. I mean, its all horse shit, but is he actually saying that all black people basically amount to white trash?

He's comparing the experience of a poor black Southerner to a poor white Southerner, during the mid-20th century. While there might have been a lot of similarities, what he's saying is incredibly ignorant and either very naive or very hateful.

Somebody tell rednecks doofuses all over the world that homosexuality:

a) Is also a women's thing

b) Is only sometimes about the buttsecs

He's just talking about rural life where everyone gets along and farms and minds their business. Not in the big city where the ghettos were formed and segregation started (which now turned into the liberal centers)
Pretty much. No black southerners acted up outside of atl tbh.

I like the show and nothing he stated is a surprise, he is a almost 80 year old southern sharecroppers son for christ sake, and ultra religious. Being the grandson of one with a similar background and cultural upbringing I am not surprised at all that he is showing his age and therefore a now nearly extinct outlook on what he observed way back then.

“For the sake of the Gospel, it was worth it,” Phil tells me. “All you have to do is look at any society where there is no Jesus. I’ll give you four: Nazis, no Jesus. Look at their record. Uh, Shintos? They started this thing in Pearl Harbor. Any Jesus among them? None. Communists? None. Islamists? Zero. That’s eighty years of ideologies that have popped up where no Jesus was allowed among those four groups. Just look at the records as far as murder goes among those four groups.”

groups that have popped up in the last eighty years: shintos, communists, muslims

muslims and nazis are also well known for having "no jesus"

I work at a video store chain and this god awful show is our best seller by miles, we can barely keep it in stock, not to mention all the other merchandising crap they have like T-shirts, CD's, blankets, and any other ridiculous shit you could possibly think of.

So this is what America can't get enough of? Racist, homophobic idiots with lots of money? I'm so proud to be an American

As a black person... meh. Seems like he is just ignorant on the subject. And in this case ignorant means he doesn't know and hasn't done any research. Not quite on the same level as being actively racist.

Depends on his actual background, some subsets of whites such as the Cajuns, were treated just as harshly in LA as Blacks. Cajun mistreatment in particular is really worth a look into for those who do not know the history of that people, you be surprised out how badly they were treated in this state until they had their own civil rights movement in the 70's.

This one's pretty bad, so I think it'll be about 75 more posts before it happens.

Defense-Force? Yeah... this one is different than Paula Deen. With Paula, it was "This shit is proof that she is probably racist." With this one, it's "This guy just explained why he is racist."

My bet... 89 posts.

I await the eventual defense of his statement by RacistGAF.

Edit: Already here huh?

Wait until the thread completely shifts away from the homosexuality comments, then they'll start showing up in full.

I really wish this could be enough to get them off TV. Considering A&E kept Dog around for a while, too, I'm guessing not.

I really don't understand the current fascination with rednecks between shit like these guys, and Honey Boo Boo.

He's speaking of the past where the majority of blacks were in poverty and rich/middle class whites looked down on poor whites as 'white trash'. They united in their poverty and were happy, got along, didn't prize material possessions, weren't guided by greed

This is quite a romantic view of those times. I guess he just wants to ignore the various hate groups that lynched blacks at the same time?

I think he and/or anyone else in his position who would say that black people were A-OK pre-Civil Rights is being intellectually dishonest.

All things are always about the buttsecs.

A guy on an American show based on duck hunting is an ignorant bigot? Shock and awe, who could have seen this coming.

Yeah. While the historical treatment of Cajuns was so much less heinous than that of Black people, they were certainly kept down in the earlier half of the 20th century.

But his statement, about "black people singing in the fields", reeks of racism and is incredibly ignorant.

Ehhh..... I think I'll keep this a secret from my mother. She loves the show and I know she'd be offended and probably stop watching if she knew he said that.

Yep, that bothered me too.

Willie has two adopted children that are minorities, so I would think he'd disagree.
The article mentioned only one.

I always wonder what thoughts are going through the minds of old white men in the service industry that handle my bags and serve my food.

Well, he never saw it so it must not have happened!

Plus those black people were really happy, singing songs while working the fields! Surely there was never any discrimination, racism or anything untoward back in the day!

His statement is milder than some of the shit in this thread about rednecks, white trash, the south, hunting, religion, etc.

Thank goodness it wasn't Si.

Si had a quote too, but between the iced tea and the senility, they couldn't figure out what he said.

Yep, that bothered me too.

White trash means poor white, and at that time all blacks were poor, so the relationship makes sense.

However, that should be the first clue to him about how terrible that era was. Why were the blacks apparently singing and happy? Racism was so systematized that most just accepted their lot in life as second class citizens. Once segregation ended and supposedly everyone was equal, more and more began to realize how unequal things really were and rightly got upset about it.

How is what he said 'milder'? Who even brought up half that stuff?

Except WIllie has an adopted black son

First thing I thought of when reading this thread was that his adopted grandson is black. I don't know what to think here. His comments are incredibly incensitive. I think he's more homophobic than racist though.

I enjoyed the show but now it is on every second of the day and I've kinda grown tired of it. I can't stand when reality shows become staged, or more noticeably staged at least. In the beginning when the show first started and wasn't that popular I think it was more tame with how edited and scripted it was. Now it is a bit more in your face.

Also that's really gross equating homosexuality with beastiality.

That comparison has been going on for a long time as a slippery slope argument against gay marriage/homosexuality in general. "Well if we allow two men to be together, why not a man and a dog?" It's ridiculous beyond words, yet it persists.
