Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

So every newcomer thus far has had a neat CG intro video. I wonder if that will continue. Seems like a lot of work.

Namco has always been pretty good with that stuff though. It's got Tekken team written all over it.
It's a shame there won't be any in the actual game. They look great.

Much less than I remember, apparently. Just the palette. Skyward Sword Link does use TP Link as a base too, so I guess that's where I got my similarities mixed up.
Not even the palette's from SS. Link's pants are tan in that game. This game's Link is just a more vibrant version of his TP costume.

I guess the fact that there is no boomerang (but beetle) is a problem? The beetle would be cool and considering Rosalina's "Bring it all to me" move, I don't see it being that cheap really.
That's actually a pretty great idea.

Maybe the Beetle could be added as a hard tap on the analog stick, similar to Samus's Super Missiles.

So...I'm catching up with the last few pages of this thread, and I see people saying that Rosalina's inclusion means no Waluigi or Bowser. Jr.. Where on earth are you guys getting that? Who said a franchise can only have 7 reps (counting Wario, who I'm sure will be announced)?

Like in TP.

Up the saturation/brightness of this and you have this game's Link.

Doing that gives me this, which looks a bit further off than the Skyward Sword art. Either way they're all closely based off of the same design so we're just arguing sementics.

Apparently, no. Sakurai gave us a really weird excuse saying that people would just watch the cutscenes online and ruin the fun.

He didn't say they wouldn't include them in-game, just that they wouldn't be a reward behind the single player mode.

Though that's been mistranslated to hell and back by now.

Where would they put videos outside of the story mode?

If every newcomer gets a video, and some of them are secret characters...

Sakurai will change his mind and turn the adventure mode into a 60 minute quick time event.

There is also a (admittedly very slim) chance that they could replace the classic mode montages with Short CG videos.

Sakurai can add whoever he wants. Fans are just checking their expectations regarding more Mario newcomers since one was just unveiled.

Also, anyone who doesn't have a Mushroom for an icon is not considered a "Mario" character for the purposes of Smash. Yoshi, DK and Wario, for example, all have their own icons. They're what I call the "extended Mario universe" in the context of Smash, since they've gone on to have their own successful franchises.

Have they confirmed that there won't be any handheld stages on Wii U or vice-versa? Wouldn't there have to be some overlap, otherwise franchises like Pikmin or Wii Fit wouldn't get any representation on 3DS
I very much doubt it's a hard rule (WiiU stages referencing console games, 3DS stages referencing portables). It's just something Sakurai said he's trying to do. But with Kid Icarus, for example, I wouldn't be surprised if the WiiU stage references the 3DS game, for obvious reasons.

That quote can be interpreted in so many different ways that I will believe there are no videos when I see it.

Now I'm picturing how these videos might look in 3D on the 3DS.

The game will probably have a CG opening and then all the CG trailers will probably be in the extras menu.

I would love some "Arcade Mode" style endings, it would make sense too since Namcai is making the game.
I would love that. Those videos are what make me want to beat the game with every character in the Tekken series.

Rosalina at the very least was one of the few good newcomers from Mario that could have been chosen. If we are lucky we'll get another as an unlockable but I don't see Sakurai continuing to hype Mario characters pre-release and instead shine light on other newcomers.

Same. If they do that I wonder if there will be any super weird endings like Lee's Tekken 5 ending...

Unfortunately I can't see anything like that happening. I can imagine some stuff like Captain Falcon winning races to impress the ladies, but it not working. I can see it being harder in some ways since few of the characters talk in Smash.

It just occurred to me a nice benefit of the two-game format (WiiU and 3DS) is Sonic will get two stages, Mega Man will get two stages, etc. Well, I guess we don't know that for sure, but so far the stages in each game appear to be different from one another. The 3DS ones usually referencing portable games, and the WiiU ones usually referencing consoles.

The Mega Man Legends 3 stage will be cool for the 3DS version.

I woke up on my birthday and decided that my first thing to do today would be to visit my awesome (Citation needed) SmashGAF brethren.

Happy Birthday, Lad. I think you need a mug of beer to drink after seeing what happened in Smash Thread. :P

there a chance that more copies of this will be sold on 3ds than wii u?

It's very likely (in fact it's all but guaranteed unless a crap ton of people literally buy the Wii U just for Smash... well I know 3 people who are doing that :P), but the ratio could be determined by the release dates (IE Wii U version being released before the 3DS version).

A very distinct chance.

I wonder if the characters will need to be unlocked in the 3DS version, presumably it will have the same roster but everyone will know who's in if the WiiU version is released earlier.

Wii U Version will probably release first and the 3DS version will be delayed. Mostly because of the reasons stated above. Which is the fact that 3DS is more popular. So releasing a Wii U version first gives the incentive to buy a Wii U for Smash.

The Neo Geo version will sell like gangbusters.

The 3DS version will probably greatly outsell the Wii U version.

There's a chance, but it's still a bit of a stretch to assume that the majority of the Smash fanbase is eager to make the jump to a small screen version. It seems more likely to me that both versions would flounder rather than the 3DS just absorbing that audience.

Character select screen/roster prediction time!

The empty boxes will fill in as more characters are revealed. I'm mainly posting this because most of the rosters I see follow the series placement of Brawl's select screen, which is unlikely since each of the three Smash Bros. games to date have had completely different layouts. I really like the idea of Mario, Link, Kirby, and Pikachu forming the "core" of the select screen with the guest characters scattered to the corners.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember Sakurai confirming every character will be unlocked from the beginning.

I've yet to actually hear this myself... It better not be true, as one of the most enjoyable things about Smash Bros. has always been unlocking all the characters. Whether they were just eventually handed to you in their entirety (SSE), or you unlocked them individually yourself, it was better than them just being available from the start.
