US dialect quiz can predict where you are from with surprising accuracy

While my hometown was definitely deep red, it said I mostly resemble Stockton, Santa Rosa and Modesto California. Thats like 1700 miles away! Lol

My most similar cities were apparently:

Baton Rouge
New Orleans
New York

That's not...right. I admittedly have a pretty ambiguous dialect. I live in pretty rural North Carolina where most people have heavy country Southern dialects, but I don't. In fact, most people here would say I talk "Northern".

Thats pretty interesting. It was right on my location, and I spent a few years when I was really little in Northern Nevada, apparently thats where I learned potato bug.

Worked on an iPad for me. Map loaded fine.

Yonkers / Philadelphia / Newark.

I was born and raised in the CA Bay Area, and I currently live in Boston, so no idea how that resulted. Highly populated part of the tri-state area was all very red. Maybe too much TV?

Interesting, I was all over the place. Which I thought might happen since I didn't grow up in the US and then moved around a bit while there so my slang/speech is a clusterfuck of different regions and countries.

Watched the map go from light blue to navy. Ended up with a blank page :( I even use a bunch of those words; bubbler, traffic island, garage sale...

THERE'S A WOLF IN THE HEN HOUSE. REPEAT.

I couldn't see the map either on mobile, but then I clicked the "link" sharing option and the map popped up.

It was totally accurate. Put me as really warm near St. Louis and Illinois and cold everywhere else, which is basically spot-on.

Here ya go:

Neat. Actually from western Nebraska but I doubt they've got enough data from the sparsely populated western half of the state to actually put a dot anywhere with certainty. I'm surprised it got that right with me answering the frontage road question with 'Feeder.' I lived in Houston for a while and picked that up since I didn't really call them anything before then.

Told me Buffalo. I live in Toronto, so that's pretty much the closest I can get.

What the hell is a drivethrough liquor store?!

I grew up in a military family where we lived on both coasts as well as over seas.

Like, 75% of the map is bright red or yellow.

Yeah, it was spot on.

Some of the regional things are really weird. I remember when someone at work came up to me and asked where the bubbler was. I had no idea what he was talking about and he couldn't think of another word for it.

Boston, Worchester, Providence.

Not bad considering I live in Maine! Dunno if they had any places in Maine even registered heh.

Rotary gave it away.

Part New England and Part Bay Area.

Makes sense though, as most of my family lives in CT but I grew up with music from California. I'm Hungarian BTW.
