Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Rosalina and Luma ate Ashley and Red's lunch.

I think Palutena is guarantied too. I wouldn't mind Dixie and Krystal either, but I like other characters like K.Roll and Peppy better. But if it's only females sure.

No love for Syrup. She was a good nemesis to Wario and she. We could fight on her ship the Sweet Stuff.

And Wart can be a Bowser alt.

Well, we know how much Sakurai loves Kid Icarus, so maybe we could see two newcomers from that series. That's what happened with Kirby in Brawl.
The two situations aren't really comparable, though. Kirby is one of Nintendo's biggest franchises and deserved three characters as far back as Melee, but Sakurai said he wanted to hold off in order to promote other people's characters.

Uprising did well, but Kid Icarus is still a small series, and it's unlikely that we'll see a sequel anytime soon. Two characters is probably more than it deserves, but because Palutena would offer such a unique play style with her staff I wouldn't mind having her.

Seeing as how franchises like Animal Crossing, Pikmin, WarioWare, and F-Zero probably won't receive even a second character, it's unlikely that Kid Icarus would be showered with characters as though it's on the same level as Kirby.

Oh wow I can't believe I hadn't thought of Midna for Smash Bros. before! I think she'd work really well, after Rosalina I really believe she is possible (Ghiranhim I still think will appear in it)

A Dry Bowser alt makes sense, Lucina as a Marth alt doesn't

A one off character that's not even from the most recent game in the series really isn't that likely.

As far as another Fire Emblem character goes, I'm still hoping for the Avatar/Robin. If Animal Crossing Villager is in, why not the Avatar?

He/She can use sword and magic in their default class, making them stand out from a standard sword user, and we still don't have a mixed sword/magic user in the game. Sakurai could also go crazy and somehow incorporate class changing into their mechanics, although I don't know how he'd do that.

The Fire Emblem Awakening Drama CDs used the default avatars to indicate the gender of the avatar in the CD. So, Smash Bros using them wouldn't be that strange. And alternate colors could at least change their hair colors.

A Dry Bowser alt makes sense, Lucina as a Marth alt doesn't
And Wart can be a Bowser alt.

That's a pretty bad comparison though. Lucina in Awakening itself had most of her animations in her two main classes based on Marth's. The only time she doesn't move like him is in a CG cutscene (or if you change her class to something outside of the Lord path).

I could see Sakurai choosing Magnus over Palutena initially, but part of me thinks Palutena's great reception in Uprising (while Magnus was rather lukewarm) may have made him reconsider post Uprising's release.

The Wart thing was a joke. I am not fond of the idea of completely different characters being alts unless it is a "shadow" or "dark" character.

Rosalina reminds me that Nintendo can fill the rest of the new roster with females, both good and evil, to even it out a bit. I would love if these ladies were in:
.

Rosalina is a HUGE breath of fresh air for me for the very reason that she confirms that ..
1. Sakurai is willing to add more big IP characters (I figured she was unlikely because I didn't see Mario getting anymore characters at all) and

2. He's willing to look at staple characters who may not be uberly important to the series historically.

Going off that I would say the only ones there that I could fully see coming are ...
-Impa: Much like how Rosalina she would rep the main game she's important to which isn't repped by the protag in smash. So she would be SS Impa. And SS makes it clear that Impa is the
4th soul in the Demise Curse
seeing as it explains her constant role in the series along side Link and Zelda.

-Cap. S (or Mona): Wario staple characters and Wario's a mighty big / strong series these days. Can't really go wrong with either one, they're both staples in different Wario series.

-Palutena (or Medusa ):
Not that I think a series with only like 3 games over the course of 20 something years warrants more characters than something like Yoshi or friggin Wario (in the event Wario doesn't get any more characters). But Sakurai gotz nepotism and these both have an important role in their series as good and bad guys...

Anyway, these are females I think could be added because they're good staple characters in their series and not just because they're female. (other than the last 2. Yeah ... don't really think KI warrants more than one character given the circumstances.)

You know, I'm a big Tharja supporter, but the more I think of it, the more I like Anna as another rep for FE. On top of being a potential mainstay because of her presence in every game in the franchise (if a mostly non-active one for most of the games before Awakening), she has the potential to go either way with how she fights between anything prominent in the games (magic or weaponry). She could also bring a "funny" fighting style to things, like hitting people with bags of loot and whatnot.

They all look like they would play different from each other. Imagine all of them with CG intros.

Replace Mother Brain with Medusa, Titania with Anna, Midna with Sami (Advance Wars), get Katchi from Sin & Punishment and add Ashley from Warioware and I feel like this'd be a cool set of new female newcomers. Oh, I almost forgot Dixie too.

The Wart thing was a joke. I am not fond of the idea of completely different characters being alts unless it is a "shadow" or "dark" character.

That character, with that particular costume, was called Marth. That makes it legit.

Villager and Pokemon Trainer are almost certain to have female alts.

Aside from those two, Palutena, Dixie, Anna, and Toon Zelda are the best bets.

Ah, alright.

Still, in Awakening itself they had Marth as a complete Lucina clone visually. Not only the 3d model, but also the animations were the same. These are pictures of Marth in Awakening, not Lucina:

That costume isn't used by Marth in Smash Bros though, and Lucina has longer hair and such, so she could stand out visually enough if they made her an alternate costume.

Of course, it's possible that Sakurai shares your view and won't have different characters as costumes... Although I think it'd be a great way to add more fanservice. Daisy, Lucina, Blood Falcon and others could easily be added as glorified costumes (with their own voice tracks and narrator announcement, but gameplay identical to the real character and chosen like a costume, rather than a separate character). Personally, it bothers me much more to get "incomplete" costumes that are clearly referencing another character but don't quite get there, like the brown haired Peach in a yellow dress from both Melee and Brawl.

That character isn't Marth though. She is a different gender, has a different name, a different personality and a different costume. I fail to see how masquerading as a character makes you that character.

Could it be accomplished? Yes, it can. But I am of the opinion that it shouldn't and that it cheapens both characters.

if ganondorf gets to have c. falcon's moveset with different effects/damage then there's no reason Martha can't be an alt costume/animation set

Ganondorf isn't going to be a clone this time. Sakurai told me so.

This doesn’t have much to do with the current discussion, but I’m going to refer back to this post with each newcomer reveal to see how well I did.

Unedited roster predictions
  • Mewtwo will return from Melee
  • Donkey Kong newcomer: Dixie Kong or nobody at all
  • Zelda newcomer: Toon Zelda/Toon Sheik/Tetra or nobody at all
  • Pokémon newcomer: Zoroark or nobody at all
  • Fire Emblem newcomer: Chrom (by himself or tagging with Avatar/Lucina) or nobody at all
  • Kid Icarus newcomer: Palutena or nobody at all
  • Metroid/Yoshi/Kirby/Star Fox/F-Zero/Mother/WarioWare/Pikmin newcomer: none
  • A couple of retro newcomers and maybe Pac-Man

The way I see it, his animations will change to mesh in better with Zelda more but the properties will stay similar. I just hope his side-b stays the same, it's satisfying to kill players trying to recover with that, even if it means killing myself in the process.

I really do hope Sakurai doesn't show all of his cards before launch day.

I hope so. I would like to have same feeling that I had for melee's surprises.

I remember when unlocking characters used to be a surprise.

Indeed. I have been hopeful that I would experience that again but I don't think it will happens tho.

Do you guys prefer the hype of these reveal trailers or would you have preferred to be surprised when you unlock a newcomer?

Reveal trailers should introduce us to the characters then we will battle them afterward.

I agree with this, except for the Pokemon newcommer. I actually expect Sakurai to surprise us and go for a Gen VI Pokemon.

I'm still pretty fond of the idea of the Awakening character being a pair, being that pairing up is probably FE's most distinguishing feature out of the other games, and would serve as a way to differentiate the Awakening representative from the other 'dudes with swords'. But then Rosalina arrived and as much as I love how it looks like she plays, between her, and the Ice Climbers (assuming they're still in), I'm not sure the game would have enough room to support so many duo characters.

You know, I'm a big Tharja supporter, but the more I think of it, the more I like Anna as another rep for FE. I definitely support this.

Oh man, if a tweaked model and voice for Marth is the only way to play as Lucina in SSB4, then by all means, tweak it.

Going to agree with this here. Something is better than nothing! We'll see, anyway. Still plenty of opportunity for her to be playable on her own.

I'm interested in what exactly you have in mind. Gen VI doesn't really have a "Lucario" or "Zoroark".
The poster for next year's movie has been revealed, and it seems the plot will center around Mega Evolutions:

That's two straight years of movies featuring Mega Mewtwo. I'm absolutely convinced Mewtwo will be included to "represent" X/Y.

Personally, I don't think I will go with SAkurai Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing since it's Mario Party subtitle but not Smash. It's awesome title tho.
