Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

It's nice to see a lot of SmashGAF backing Takamaru despite being so long forgotten.

Well, he has been showing up in a lot of games lately. Plus his game is getting localized out of nowhere. He's make a great Retro character.

Also, I do think Wonder Red or W101 will show up somewhere in this game. Nintendo owns the IP after all. It'd take as much negotiating as Sakurai has to with Game Freak I'm sure.

Why do people keep suggesting Tharja?

I mean, I played the game and I love her buuuuut what makes people think she's important enough to her game or series to be in Smash as an Awakening rep instead of Chrom, the avatar or Anna!

Am I missing something here?

same reason why Owain is (was?) all the rage in fucking gamefaqs

With the update break and all, I figured it's a good time to revise my roster predictions. Here's my predicted Smash Bros. roster for 2014!

NHblqlZ.png
Nice roster, pretty much what I would pick, and In really like the color choices you choose.
(Though I expect Sakurai to have at least 1 or 2 unexpected choices on the final roster though)

Jigglypuff isn't exactly as relevant as she used to be, either. Even with the new Fairy typing.

While I do think Jigglypuff is holding back a chance at a new character for the Pokemon series, a part of me does want her to stay. So, I get where everyone is coming from.
*seethes*

Gee, I sure hope Yoshi comes back. I always liked that individual and the games it appears in.

Yoshi is being replaced by Lucina.

Dang I was really hoping they redesigned Zelda on the off-chance she's playable and more Sheik-like in the new Wii U version

I know, right

You know all Pokemon can be just referred as it, which is what I always do since it is never explicitly said they are male or female.

One sad, sad word:

"waifu"

Don't you even begin to defend that this thing is male.

Better than calling Jigglypuff an IT.

Suggestions

Fatal Frame Stages, Puyo Puyo Tetris Stage, Swapnote Stage, Custom Robo, Elite Beat Agents, Rhythm Heaven Fever stages, Sagi of Baten Kaitos.

Discuss.

Bayonetta > Wonder Red

If Bayonetta can get into W101 with no fuss then I see no reason she can't get into Smash.

I know, right

Zelda has a new moveset.

She's one of the most popular characters in Fire Emblem Awakening, both overseas and in Japan. She's also just pretty awesome in general. I'd love to see her get in, but I don't think it'll happen.

Wonder Red might have a chance. TW101 might have sold poorly, but it was a great game. Wonder Red could have a really unique moveset, so maybe it could happen. I'd like to see it, anyway.

uhhhhhh, do you know how Bayonetta looks in it?

And it is a PG character cameo in another PG game. Why would there be a fuss about it? There may have been a fuss about the design, but it fits right in with the TW101 cast.

You're talking about a 3rd-party character getting into Smash, there will be fuss about ANY 3rd-party character.

Zelda has a new moveset.

We don't know that. The Phantom in that one screenshot could have been an assist trophy. And it's the only move of hers we see. We have no idea what her other moves are, old or new.

If Nintendo owns The Wonderful 101 IP, that would technically make Wonder Red a first-party character.

Do you guys really think Dixie Kong is unique enough to stand on her own? The only way I could see her getting in is if she's with Diddy ala Mountain Climbers.

Yeah, I do. I can see that Sakurai could borrow few elements from her new game. She have cool bubble gun which would allow her to bring something new to battles. She could be some kind of trap character.

I honestly think he's picked up a lot of support between Brawl and now simply by being name dropped by Sakurai in the past as someone he'd love to do something with, "introduced" within the confines of NintendoLand and mentioned by Kamiya a few times. There's nothing definitive here but I'm sure more people find it easier to back him nowadays. Also helps that he could bring a style of play unrepresented thus far to the roster (iaijutsu/fast sword draws supplemented with ninja tools versus the more "knight" or "fencing" styles of swordsmen present in the series).

I have been supporting Takamaru ever since Brawl Hype. Sakurai mentioned that he would like to add Takamaru to Smash before or after Melee being released. However there is a catch that Sakurai mentioned in the past. He need to shown up in a new game then he would consider to add him to the roster. Takamaru finally got in three different games RIGHT after brawl got released. I'm hopefully that it would meant something for Takamaru.

The significance of that cameo flies right over your head.

Sega wasn't credited anywhere in the game for the Bayonetta IP. There is a chance now that ownership of it has been transferred to Nintendo.

I'm 100% sure that it's not an assist trophy.

Not true: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=77647909&postcount=5
But your previous post was stating it like it was a fact. It is not a fact. It is your thoughts on the matter. It could be right for all we know, but that doesn't mean it is what you say it is.

So Zelda holds that exact pose for the whole of the animation? That seems incredibly unlikely.

I can easily picture her keeping her arm outstretched for the duration of the Phantom's time onscreen. It makes perfect sense since the idea is that she's controlling it and sending it forward.

Too bad then.

But your previous post was stating it like it was a fact. It is not a fact.
I think it's fact. Don't let it bother you too much.

It's not an "if" so much as it's a fact they do. It's the same situation with all of the IPs Platinum/Clover has ever worked on. Joe/Okami/God Hand resides with Capcom, Bayonetta/Vanquish/Mad World is Sega, and W101 is Nintendo.

This means that Wonder Red wouldn't take up a third party spot, which is great.

I always liked the Din's fire move. I hope it hasn't vanished.

Using this picture as reference, here’s the approximate position of Zelda, Link, and Peach:

The big blob at the end is where the Phantom would have to be in order to appear out of frame. Are you seriously telling me a Phantom side special move would have that much range? While Zelda stays frozen in a pose with her mouth open?

I’m still confused as to why Twilight Princess Zelda would be commanding a Phantom in the first place. Zelda only involves herself with Phantoms in one game, and it’s a completely different toon version of Zelda — and she doesn't even “command” the Phantoms from behind; her ghostly spirit possesses them.

And never mind the fact that getting rid of Din’s Fire would destroy the point of Zelda utilizing the three Great Fairy of Magic spells in the first place.

You and me both, I actually like Zelda's whole move set....sure maybe making Shiek a separate character and giving her an actual Down B move would help, but I would not mind it if she was left the same.

Also I think her recovery move is my favorite one to use out of all the character's since you have the most control over it and making it useful compared to other characters. (from my experience....Up+B then holding down is such a troll move while on the ground sometimes, mind games :D)

Also people Din's fire seem UNDERated to me.

Landing Zelda's lightning kick is one of the most satisfying things in Brawl and Melee.

Din's Fire is terrible in both games
Project M version is legit though

You're assuming that Zelda still has any of those spells in her moveset, and that's completely up the in the air as of now.

This isn't literally Twilight Princess Zelda, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to transform into Sheik in Brawl. That argument is out the window, although I think it makes a case for Toon Zelda being able to use the Phantom with its original artstyle.

Again, the million dollar question. If it's an assist trophy, why would it be redesigned to look like it came from Twilight Princess? There's no explanation for that.

Thing is, I think Sakurai isn't going for a "Twilight Princess" or a specific Zelda any more- same with Link. So redoing her moveset to incorporate all the Zelda incarnations and not just OoT would make sense.

Especially since we didn't see a move of hers at all.
