Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Being a huge Mega Man fan, I wouldn't mind to see a Protoman alt. And an X alt could be possible since the Gameboy Mega Man X games had the short/stout build character model.

This list will likely be inaccurate in the sense that it's too conservative, I think. I mean, if Wii Fit Trainer or Rosalina weren't already confirmed I don't get the sense that you would have considered including them in your prediction, so I don't think it's wise to hypothesize upon what the rest of the roster will be as though Sakurai has exhausted all the big surprises. I think there are at least four more big reveals that (almost) no one will see coming. Pokemon Trainer, Snake, Sonic and Captain Olimar (to a lesser extent) were just as unexpected as ROB when they were revealed for Brawl, and every newcomer so far has been completely unexpected outside of Mega Man.

Of course I wouldnt have put Rosalina and Wii Fit Trainer :p that's why I titled it my prediction as of today. If it was from the start I would have put Balloon Fighter, but one of villagers moves makes it less likely for me :(

I played it safe on purpose, it would be nice to have another surprise or two though.

Letting my mind wander and trying to imagine what this game's ROB or G&W will be is my favorite part of imagining the roster. Pac-Man or Mii would be a huge deal, for instance, but I find it to be such an obvious decision that it won't surprise me when they show up.

Pretty much this. Metaknight either needs to be balanced and nerfed, or just cut.

/salt

Most of his issues were that Brawl's quirky physics had no negative effect on him while the rest of the cast suffocated under them. As long as they get that right this time he's already less imposing.

Of course they should also nerf his recovery and the power/length of some of his specials, but he's far from a lost cause.

I've decided on my number one most wanted alternate costume: Metaknight with no mask.

Ooh, I dunno about that! I always loved the fleeting imagery of his face...a second-long peek, but no longer. We'll see, though!

I'll also echo the opinion that the roster is largely unpredictable at this point (aside from obvious returning veterans such as Yoshi); granted, I knew we would get some wildcards in the vein of Pokémon Trainer and R.O.B., but certainly not on the level of Wii Fit Trainer. In comparison, any roster predictions just seem so safe at this point. :(

(not that I have a problem with people making them, y'know. They just don't interest me anymore).

With regards to the roster, I wonder if we're going to get another two-in-one newcomer like Rosalina & Luma, be it a tag team or transformation. Melee added Zelda/Sheik and Ice Climbers, and Brawl added Zero Suit Samus, Olimar, and Pokémon Trainer. Those tend to be the types of characters that interest me the most.

Toon Zelda.

I will be so fucking disappointed if we don't get a lot of alternate costumes this time around, especially because Project M could do it.

Wii Fit Trainer Female: Male
Animal Crossing Boy: Girl
Mario: Dr. Mario
Luigi: Mr. L
Wario Warioware: Wario Classic
Zelda TP: Zelda SS
etc..

Also, perhaps even switching models from Wii U to Brawl to Melee if possible. I don't know the mechanics of all this, but the possibilities are so cool.

If we do and it's not just Toon Zelda/Tetra being resurrected from Brawl, then personally I'd want a Chrom and Lucina tag-team to represent FE:A's team up mechanics, represent the newest game and serve as a means of putting in a new FE rep without risking the last non-Marth one (Ike) getting the boot.

...I want those extra 4 yoshi colors and for his egg shield to match his selected color like in pm.

Mewtwo would be a good transform character. Or Lucario. His aura system could be upgraded by letting him go Mega.

Yeah, let mewtwo cycle between x&y formes, y being lighter with more telekenetic attacks, x being heavier with more physical attacks. Make lucario mega all the time with better speed.

I think Mega Evolutions should just be final smashes. It would be like that Super Wario thing. Except not as powerful.
but....the babies and their older selves, koopa troopa/ paratroopa/ dry bones, toad/toadett, dk/funky, bowser/dry bowser...
sarcasm ofcourse lol
She's talking about a game "saving the Wii U". Kart is more popular than Smash.

One game won't solve the Wii U's many problems.

Update on my broken Wii because I played too much Brawl:

Finally got the Wii cleaner and cleaned the disc lens reader, and it was a bit dirty but nothing too bad. I mean, I hadn't cleaned it once in the last six years so I'm not surprised it'd be just a little dirty. Now it can read games again, every game except Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

I don't think it's just because it's dual layered either, since I put in Super Mario Galaxy and it appears to be fine. But whenever I put Brawl in, it shows up on the Disc Menu, I press start, then after a few seconds it takes me to an error screen.

Disc reader still sounds funky too though. It sounds like the sound your car makes when you rev it up which obviously isn't good. And whenever it boots up Super Mario Galaxy it goes quiet for a few seconds, and I don't remember it doing that before.

Fuck me, I don't want to take it to repairs just because it can't play one game. Shit is way too expensive. Is there any way I could get a repair for free you think?

This happened to me in 2008 lol

Brawl killed my launch Wii ; _ ;

I really don't know how you balance Meta Knight without making him un-fun. His fast movement, which made him broken, was also what made him fun.

I'm thinking:

-replace tornado with a shit neutral b (I think competitive and casual players alike would be okay with this move)
-nerf the knock back on his up b (that shit was too good)
-nerf his downsmash slightly (too fast, too strong)
-make him even more of a glass canon (he should be the lightest character in the game)

keep everything else the same =)

Super Mario Galaxy isn't a dual layered disc.. so what's the problem with it?

I'd put in Prince Fluff:

Meta Knight (plus a few others) have had nerfs coming for a long time. What i'd rather see though, is that most of the character changes are buffs for the lower tier characters rather than just nerfing everyone across the board.

can't wait to see a newly buffed Link in SSB4!

he's still going to suck

I bought a Wii brand new near launch and when Brawl came out I couldn't play it because my Wii was one of the Wiis that couldn't read dual-layered discs. When the issue became widespread Nintendo offered to repair that for free, it sucked cause I had to wait over a week to play my new copy of Brawl. Anyways, back on point.

I looked at how much it would have cost to repair and it said "74.99$" and I was amazed, but it also showed that they didn't just repair it, they replaced it entirely meaning some Wiis have crappy disc drives.

This is pretty much my line of thinking.

While Mega Man was not surprising in the least, the Villager blew my mind because of Sakurai's stance on him in the past. Then out pops Wii Fit Trainer who would have fallen under the same category as Villager during the brawl days and I now have 2 WFT characters. I could only assume the next reveal would have been someone more obvious. While Rosalina isn't a stretch by any means I did no see her coming and not because of some dumb old "4 reps per franchise" argument. I know she has taken a playable role in 3D World but Sakurai has had her in mind from the get go obviously but I thought she would never be a playable character.

I keep saying there are certain shoe ins but at this point but now I just don't know. Ridley's chances look better every day.
