Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

You know what? You're in the right. I just read through my responses before and have no fucking idea what I was getting at. I'm going to chalk it up to it being the morning; ignore me.

I can't even write legible sentences when I'm tired, so don't worry about it, and like I said in my edit I understand what you were getting at.

@ #2, are you sure it's not just the lack of exposing light on the cheekbones? In other pictures (like the ones I used for comparisons in past posts), his face seems rather lean and defined.

I want to feel this way, but any time we get anything close to a straight on view of link's face I notice it again.

This is in stark contrast to his 3DS version for example, 3DS link looks absolutely perfect and is one of my favourite 3DS models shown.

The facial structure of his 3DS model looks pretty much identical to his Brawl model. I think what they did with veterans was take their Brawl models and then edit them for the specific platform, so for Wii U they added a bunch of polygons and redid all the maps(texture, light etc.) while for 3DS I think they primarily removed polygons in the hands, feet, torsos and other areas of characters and then redid all their maps. This would explain why his face looks fine in the 3DS version but not in the Wii U version, but of course this is just speculation on my part.

I know it's highly unlikely, but I'd love to have Isaac in Smash 4. He's fairly unique compared to the other swordsmen, and his moveset could be a combination of physical sword-based attacks and offensive Psynergy skills.

Pleeeeaaaseee.

I really want to see him getting in Smash as playable character but I doubt that he will. I always thought that he would make an interesting trap character with plants being traps.

I think it's the extremely smoothed out facial textures and the tiny nose in combination with a somewhat larger mouth that makes him look odd.

Ah, the old "Links face looks weird" debate again. Luckily, Smash Bros. isn't about zooming into a guys face while fighting, so I doubt I'll even notice.

I wonder how this bandwagon started, haha! His face looks fine to me. What about it is upsetting you guys? Is it the smooth features or is it something else?

* "Texture" isn't a term exclusive to items or general material; Link's face, indeed, also hosts a texture. :)

I don't see it as a bandwagon at all. It's just legitimately terrible to look at. I've hated it ever since it was first shown in-game. And with that Brawl model comparison picture, all the errors are just amplified. How can you guys not see the blatant wrong in that... FACE? :(

...DK's also looking pretty shitty, imo. But that's enough nitpicking. Not like I've ever really used those characters.

Sadly, I'm one of those individuals who will actually spend time in Training Mode with the camera zoomed in, in slow-motion, examining each and every character's animations and facial expressions. So I know I'll be pretty annoyed with Link there. 'COURSE THAT'S JUST MY PROBLEM, SO.

I don't think most games are, but people notice because people care about art style, design choice, ect.

Well, I notice it now. Obviously. The past two pages has been Link's mug zoomed in. I can't say I hate his face, but it's not my favorite Link design.

I will say that I think ya'll are overblowing it a little much.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I suppose the opposite is so.

I am just "upset" (laughing ) that everyone ( so far) looks fine, and just link got roughed up. I will be "mad" ( laughing) if link is the only wonky looking character in the game.

Link looks fine, IMO.

The hair is a definite improvement.

I agree. I think his SSB4 model really just highlights the issues I had with his TP design to begin with.

The Brawl/SSB4 comparison just shows me the same Link with a less expressive face, rather than some radical overhaul.

Count me in as the guy who doesn't see the big deal with Link's face and model. Bringing up Brawl models I didn't like though, I really hated the half-assed Classic Zelda color scheme. The model just wasn't made for bright colors, so it looks very off and unnatural. I really hope SS/OoT Zelda is a proper alt this time.

I just think the pic of him standing with zelda is just a bad angle because he doesnt look like that in any other picture sakurai has posted of him, his face looks fine otherwise

Well you can always main Toon Link, instead! Like me.

Lord knows he'll be better, anyway.

I have always prefered Toon to regular link.

Toon is way better, his attacks are actually useful and he pretty strong. So it makes me question regular link's entire weight/Hurt ratio. Because link doesn't hurt enough to make his heaviness worth it, his attacks sound and feel meaty so its more or less the illusion his attacks are actually worth how heavy he is. But they aren't so you have some guy who should be super high damage running around at a super high damage weight.

I found regular Link pretty fun to play as in Melee. If he went back to being at least somewhat like that I think I'd play as him more. Brawl Link was the only character I think I played in Brawl that gave me an immediate negative reaction. Like, it took me a while to figure out what was wrong with Samus, but the first time I played as Link, I thought, "He feels off."

I like Link's heavier weight and up smash, but yeah, TL outclasses him. Weird that TL is better than Link and ZSS is better than Samus.

ZSS is the really weird one, since it was supposed to be Samus that had all the killing power and ZSS was just supposed to rack up damage and stay alive until another Smash Ball came around.

Funny how that worked.

maybe it's funny from a character perspective, but if I had to bet on which one would be better gameplay-wise, I'd pick the faster character (ZSS)
same applies for Toon Link, I wonder why! /s

It makes sense in that context now, but on the Dojo ZSS was treated as a downgrade to standard Samus as a penalty for her strong final smash.

And then we got the game.
