Eh, I hate MH. Since PSP. Tried it for more than 10 hours and the game simply didn't click with me, I thought it was slow, clunky and not fun at all.

TOP OF THE PAGE RECOMENDATION:

Buy Hotline Miami.

On the subject of MH... It doesn't appeal to me at all. But I loved Soul Sacrifice, it had a story and some actual progression that didn't involve farming. I prefer grinding to improve my character, not farming to improve weapons. Though I didn't mind farming to improve my spells in SS since I actually enjoyed the gameplay and setting so much.

Gave Ragnarok Odyseey a fair shake and ended up not really enjoying it too much. If I could have improved base character stats I'd have enjoyed it more. I got stuck on a boss, and didn't feel like farming to improve equipment. Plus, no story worth a damn to keep me interested.

I'll give Toukiden a whirl though, because I like the art design. And you never know.
hello,

So it was a toss up between the 3ds or the Vita. It seems that I can get a better deal on a Vita then I can a 3ds so thats where I'm leaning too.

I'm still on the fence, but what all can the Vita do exactly? I know it sounds like a stupid question and even as I read various forums I'm still a bit unsure. Guess I just need that extra push.

I really a big JRPG guy, and I know the 3ds seems to be getting them, but with psn+ and ps1 classics it just seems to be a better choice.

Helps me out GAF :-)
Apps (off the top of my head):
Twitter - great, though mentions are a bitch on it. Otherwise the app is perfect.
Facebook - lame, doesn't even work with a game open and has limited display and the UI is flawed.
Netflix - not in EU apparently and outdated anyway, no profiles and lacks the new UI, otherwise it'd be fine.
Foursquare - still don't even know what that is
tunein - neat free radio/music streaming app, not sure if it's out worldwide or just NA
Music Unlimited - subscription based, can stream music during gameplay not sure how well it works, can also store music locally for offline play and play music during most games that way
YouTube - Can't make comments anymore thanks to garbage+ change on YouTube, but it's a solid app. Though it needs free space on your memory card to play videos apparently. Some don't play if they're too long and you don't have enough space. Not sure why. Works during a game.

And random things...
Browser: Works great without anything else open (games). If a game is open, it usually has issues displaying stuff and will tell you to close the game to get it to load properly. Other times, it'll load up... but refresh over and over.
Remote Play: Meh on PS3 due to limited support. Great on PS4. Obviously depends on connection and if you have those.
PS Store: Great UI, currently no issues I can think of. Other than the download list, which is more a general PSN issue across every platform. Needs a friggin' cart though.
Cross game chat: Don't know how well this works, I don't use it or voice chat at all.
Trophies: Syncs fairly quickly and in the background while using the Trophy app.

Livearea: It's like a 'page' or 'board' per game (or app) that has various info on it. Links to DLC, other games, also standard are a refresh button, PS+ button for games (to easily upload/download saves manually), manual button, and some others I can't think of... :p

And for games, you can scroll down and see activity feed of what you're friends are doing. You can also see this on the 'Friends' app for everything in one place. (People adding friends, earning trophies, some games have specific content to push through, purchases you opt to share, ratings in the store you opt to share, etc.) I love that and check it religiously.

I think my favorite thing about Vita, is just being able to suspend games and open up something else. I always have Trophy, Game, and Twitter sitting there ready to open up. And the PS4's remote play app has been up lately. You can have what... six liveareas up and ready to open at any given time. The quick access is nice to have.

There haven't been too many plain ol' JRPGs on the system. A lot are dungeon crawlers or more niche stuff like Atelier. But with PSP + PSone Classics, it's still worth it. Plus... Persona 4: Golden is that good. And if you've never had a PSP, while not every worthwhile JRPG is on the PSN store, there are still a good amount on there to get to. Like Trails in the Sky~

I platinum'd the game and thought it was really fun. The voice acting in some regards (mostly Laval, the main character) can get annoying... but for a kid it should be fine. And honestly, but the end I was used to it.

Visually, the pre-rendered cutscenes look great. The game itself looks serviceable, though the character mouths are pixely and ugly. Otherwise I didn't have a problem with the graphics.

Easy platinum. :P

Out of the two LEGO games I've played (this and Harry Potter 5-7 Years), it's the best. And based on what I've seen of others (Marvel looks like a mobile game, while Batman seems to have the same cutscenes looking like ass problem like HP)

If you want, I'll transfer it back to my Vita and take a few screens.

Basically, any LEGO game will be an up-port of a DS or 3DS title. They've JUST started to develop on 3DS and not DS. It's a bitch we don't get a console port really, the Vita could easily handle it.

Got Muramasa in the mail, physical game collection is up to 6. Now I'm not buying any more Vita games until I finish some of these :lol

Beat Hotline Miami earlier and playing Guacamelee. Loving it. Its a lot of fun. I love the little posters in the background in the towns.

This makes me laugh. Good show, ser.

There was apparently a backlash, that I was unaware of, because the game "relies on memes" and "they're in 90% of the game".

All I could say is "wow." and then lament that these people wouldn't get to experience one of the best games of this genre in years (and one of the best games of 2013) simply because they believed the hyperbole of a few haters on GAF.

Oh well, they probably didn't deserve to play it anyway. ;)

Yeah that's the only thing I hear about Guacamelee! that's negative. I didn't mind the meme stuff at all, in fact a lot of it gave me a good chuckle.

I never had any idea that is was a point of contention for the game. Hot damn, some people just love to bitch.

Just finished Tearaway. What a magical little game. Now I'm going to have the whole day to myself on Monday (Wife is at work, kids at daycare, and I have the day off), would be the perfect day to binge on the PS4 or fire up my PC to tackle something on my Steam backlog but I love my Vita so much that I don't know if I'd rather play something on my rather large Vita backlog (Hotline Miami, Limbo, Guacamelee, etc.). hmmm...

The most epic gift I've ever given myself is that I haven't played Sound Shapes yet. I bought it the second I got a Vita but I've been saving it.

So people are pretty split on Gravity Rush, right? I'm considering getting it but the demo was way too short to totally sell me on the game. I do like the graphical style and the gravity mechanic from what little I had to play around with though.

Does it ever evolve past jumping from house to house collecting jewels and beating up enemies though?

Somewhat, that's essentially what you do. Combat isn't particularly deep, and it can be cumbersome to take out airborne foes, but the story is tantalizing. The combat gameplay alone would leave this an O.K. game, but its unique art style and Gravity mechanics, as well as story make it one of vita's finest. It does not have much replay value, to me at least.

Gift? More like... disappointment. :lol

At least for me it was. It just couldn't eclipse or even meet the hype I had for it after loving Everyday Shooter so very much.

Well, you know, everybody's opinions are different. I thought it was incredible. Got it at launch day before the hype was REALLY there, though, so I don't know if that was a factor.

Finished Guacamelee! and Muramasa rebirth recently, enjoyed both and highly recommend them. Been following the thread a lot but am always a few pages behind so haven't been posting much (thread moves fast!) Love the vita community on gaf, look forward to talking about this excellent system with everyone :)

Eufloria is such a brilliant game but I really wish they added some extra non-touch screen control inputs. Seems a tad lazy to be honest. I'd have liked the option as it's a lot of work on the fingers especially when you have quite a lot of little colonies and need to organise your troops/seeds :P

Easily highly recommended strategy game that is quite chilled and simple and great to zone out too. Just had played a stage that lasted an hour and a bit (on challenging mode) as I wasted too much time in triple speed mode and the enemy got quite big. This was after playing a few 40minute stages. I just get lost in it.

I guess fingers would be tired after that long of playing anyway lol.

-sound shapes is a great platformer and beat maker, highly recommend it. Can spend ages just dragging notes about the screen to make a beat that I will sometimes just load and listen to lol.

Might have to sit on it a bit longer, I'll probably end up getting it at some point though.

Also holy shit the AI in Soul Sacrifice is so damn useless. To the point of actually being hindering. Magusar always dies at least 2-3 times per battle.

I like the crafting and farming of materials in MH and its ilk like God Eater. It's a reason I am not totally in love with SS. Numbers and stats make me giddy.

Anyone playing Sonic Racing? Would love to get some Gaf games going since everyone shpuld have it

My hype was there before the Vita launched in NA.
I had decided I wanted a Vita FOR Soundshapes, as it was Vita exclusive at that time.
In fact, I purchased my Vita about 2-3 weeks before it launched because I was so hyped for it...

In the end, the concept showed promise (as I had originally thought it would), but I found the execution flawed. I couldn't get into the "make your own levels" or anything on that side of the game and death mode was just ridiculous (not in a good way).

I'm so glad other software has justified my purchase, because that was probably one of my biggest disappointments of 2012. So while I highly regret purchasing Sound Shapes, at least I don't regret purchasing the Vita to play it.

Just 100% completed Runner 2. Fantastic port of a fantastic game that expands upon what made the original Runner great. There were some minor stutters when things got hectic, but these never lasted more then a second and occured about 10 times during my entire playthrough.
Highly, HIGHLY recommend if you like platformers at all.

Not on Vita. :lol

gotta agree! Vita probably has the best controls for this game. haha

It's not bad. It's not the absolute horror LEGO LOTR is on the handheld. It's still a 3DS port, but the controls are snappy and it looks decent enough. If your son is into Chima then it's a safe bet if its cheap.

Thanks for the impressions, guys. I think I'll pick it up!

had a rather awkward moment in the other thread. :/ thanks VitaGAF for bearing with my many should I or should I not buy Game X here.

I really should finish Person 4G right lol

Speaking of Persona 4, I finally have vacation and I promised myself I'd start the game when it started. No more excuses!

Bought Terraria last night, and I'm already having a blast.
If anyone wants a digging buddy, my ID is Fox1304 on PsN.

And I just keep getting network error over and over again :/
This make me really wanna to split my Vita in half, why the fuck network error make Libron close itself

Are the PSP Hot Shots worth the price? Shorties look like a fun distraction but while reading the old OT people mentioned that they take four separate entries that you need to load up to play specific games. Have they changed that recently?

Tennis looks fun but is it worth $15? Should I even bother with Open Tee 1/2 since World Invitational is out?

Thanks for your time.

Monster Hunter has all of those things. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it doesn't. And it certainly does not take 20 hours to get into or become rewarding, that's just silly.

It has some of the best designed monsters I've fought in a game. Fighting them means I get better every time and learn their movements and weakenesses so it's easier to overcome them next time. It is never a grind for levels or stats to beat them because it's all about you the player getting better.

And while you may disagree I, and obviously a very large amount of other people, love the battle mechanics and would change very little about them. Clunky is the point. The game is about animation priority and sticking to the choices you make instead of just mashing buttons quickly. It's far more interesting and rewarding.

There is loads of choice to fit peoples' play styles as well. With a variety of weapons that play nothing like each other. I mained switch axe and even changing to a long sword was a totally different experience, let alone the hunting horn of bowguns.

I'm a "casual". In fact, Monster Hunter got me back into gaming after I had not touched a game for years. I love it, let's not generalise here.

You don't get Monster Hunter or enjoy it, but that doesn't mean other people only like it because of social pressure, and it doesn't mean you can just ignore all the merits of the game and the things that make it popular in the first place.

The last part was a joke, but I thought casuals for example, tend to like Call of Duty / FIFA and those games because it's easy to get into and the learning curve isn't really hard.

I haven't said the monster design is bad, I didn't spent that much time to reach most bosses so I couldn't give a solid opinion. My criticism is just based on the mechanics, which I don't like at all. Some people may like it the way it is, and I'm not saying you're weird for liking it or anything. But I've tried most weapons and there wasn't anyone I liked. It was MHFU for the PSP, a friend of mine had a retail copy and lent it to me saying it was really good but didn't click at all. And I really tried to like so I could play with him ad-hoc.

It's a game based on a battle system and I don't like it because felt it's clunky. The game isn't easy to get into like most games that are succesful to the casual audience (at least here in the West) so I don't get why it can sell that much. It's a game which I would expect to reach a DeS / DkS success. A succesful title with good enough sales, but niche, not a juggernaut that can change the fate of a console.

I'm sorry if I sound as if my opinion was a universal truth, writting is always harder than speaking because you can only use words, and it's even more difficult when you're not using your own lenguage :)
___

That aside, I have one question and I'll use this same post xD. I've been playing DmC for a while, and I think it's just OK. But... what's up with the camera? There were some sectionswhere I really wanted it to be fixed. I think it was the last battle in Mission 5, when there are two fat guys. It worked really bad in that place.

Hmm I loved the hot shots games on the psp haven't played them on vita,I also enjoyed world invitational. I would say go with world invitational, you should be able to find it for cheap at retail if your going physical, its been on sale on psn before too

Is anyone here familiar with the HK PSN store?

I have a friend who wants to play Persona 3 Portable on his Vita. Now I'm sure you all know that the Vita can play this game but he insist that there's a message there that says PSP only.

Now I'm not so sure if it's compatible on a Vita with a HK account.

Can he play it?

So, anyone played Broken Sword 5? I'm still waiting to launch on PSN USA.

And any news about The Walking 2 / The Wolf Among Us on Vita?

I'm not familiar with the HK store but if he can buy the game from his Vita it'll work. Some descriptions were never properly updated on my country's store and HK is likely the same. A quick Google seems to back that up, so I think it'd work.

Just got to the point i stopped playing ffix at when I first played it. No idea why I stopped. Utterly engrossed with it atm.
