Sakurai said he added Zero Suit Samus in Brawl mainly because he wanted to include another Metroid character. It really speaks to the suitability of Metroid's characters that a second version of Samus was deemed the most fitting. Even though I'd like to see Ridley, I agree that Metroid is less about its characters and more about isolation and exploration. The entire series is centered on Samus, and the only other important recurring characters are giant alien monsters.

I totally agree with you. And I hope Sakurai won't make "almost clones" like Wolf. He was for me the less needed character from Brawl.

I don't think a third Starfox character was a good idea and even we should really have a third one, I'd have preferred Peppy or Slippy but if you put Wolf, at least give him a brand new moveset. But you know, opinions ...

Just the sort of logical expectation that Sakurai would want to start the updates for the new year with something of substance. Otherwise, there's no reason to expect tonight's update to be anything special.

Oh yes, I wish they'd give a totally new moveset to Falco. I didn't mention him because even if he's a Fox clone, he's more important to the franchise than Wolf and I don't think it'd be great to cut him. But maybe that's just me. I know Wolf has a lot of fans and maybe they want Falco out.

We'd have something a lot more concrete than a "2014" date if it were coming out sooner. Sakurai making a New Years Resolution to get the game out in 2014 certainly doesn't help.

A clever use of the star punch could make Little Mac very unique, and besides, I think even a more standard boxer playstyle would stand out amongst the rest of the cast.

I can see his grab move looking like how he fights in the punch-out games; he moves in front of the "grabbed" opponent and hit em punch-out style. Uppercut to send them flying upwards, maybe a haymaker when you throw em to either side
