Rayman Legends on PS4 & Xbox One: Uncompressed textures, no load times

What in the fuck is a timed limited achievement? Exactly what it says on the box?

That is an achievement like "score X points in the first 2 weeks of release" or something like that. an Achievement you can only get if you buy the game at launch window.

It is another way for the publisher to give an incentive to buy the game when it launches rather than buy used, because buying used will be outside that window and the achievement will probably not be available.

That's awful.

still afraid to play my 360 Oman copy. terrific game, want to support the devs, will buy.

They're called Challenges I think and every game has them. They rotate every so often and some offer rewards.

No, they really aren't like that. Microsoft made a lot of noise about how they could offer special non-traditional achievements, and this sounds exactly like that. From the story linked in the OP....

The Xbox One version has new time-limited achievements. How do these work?

On Xbox One, you’ll find 10 exclusive challenges that you have to complete in a limited amount of time. They’re in addition to the existing achievements on Xbox 360 and that will also be in the Xbox One version. These challenges require you to perform specific actions during a limited amount of time (one week). They are associated with various aspects of the game, such as player skills, co-op play, Kung Foot, and so on.

Missed Rayman last year in all the holiday madness. Still not sure if I want to go with Wii U or XB1, people seemed to actually like the murffy levels with the touch screen.

They're not actual achievements, they're timed challenges (no points) that developers can put content behind (Crimson Dragon had concept art for example).

There is a demo on Wii U eshop, give it a try. And if you have a friend to play this with, the co-op is great.

I had tried the demo and I found it to be pretty boring moving platforms for an AI. Are all of those levels pretty much the same? Or does it get more "interesting" than that?

i only played a bit of the 360 game, are the "murffy levels" the ones in which you need to hit a button to have murffy activate switches and tickle enemies and shit, or are there actual levels where you play as murffy?

Definitive edition?! Was going to pick it up on PC but now ill get the PS4 version....
Better visuals, no load times, more costumes, am I missing anything else?

Still with this? They're good with a touchscreen :)
They are good, but my chief complaint with the Wii U games centers on the fact that those levels basically require you to look at the game pad. With such beautiful visuals on display, it sucks having to look at the ugly gamepad screen rather than your own TV. That honestly put me off from playing those levels until I had no choice.

They get more complex and inventive, but the core mechanic of moving stuff to clear a path for the player remains the same.

I personally didn't like the Murphy stages; I felt they were interruptions for the actual gameplay; but a ton of people loved them so I guess it depends on who you are.

The level in the demo is a very easy one, of course, but in the end that's the principle of it, to help the AI to find the right path. They get quite challenging sometimes and I like most the part where you juggle through the lasers/lights/enemies and the underwater part. The co-op is great because you need good coordination and the Murfy player must really time it well.

On Wii U and Vita you play as Murfy. If you play co-op, one plays as Murfy and one as Rayman (or another character)

I was enjoying this on vita but now I think i'm going to hold out for this version. better visuals and I love the PS4 controller

But Xbox ONE is 720p.
Also.....AWESOME! I had no idea this was coming out for next gen. Definitely getting this!

come on now

the Murphy Levels ruined the game for me. I wish they would of left them out of the Non Wii U versions. Also can we have a $10 upgrade program for this please?

I have to admit, the whole thing must feel kind of crazy without any load times (in a good way).

It wouldn't be worth buying and starting the game all over again for me, but I think it's a really nice way to use the extra power they had for this port.

What about my bonus heart during the load screens for levels??? But yeah, lose the Murfy shit already. Stank up the whole game.

I'll probably wait for this to show up on Plus actually... seems a likely contender for some time before the end of 2014.

i got this as a gift for my 360 but i'll play this on ps4 when it hits ps+

i just wish the wii u wasn't the lead platform for this game. right in the middle of a pure platforming renissance they had to go bungle it up with touchscreen stuff.

I remember a similar quote for the Wii U version of the game

Whenever I see the term "the power of the..." I vomit a little inside my mouth. Anyway, You probably mean this quote:

[...]You can really have huge textures, and it’s crazy because sometimes the graphic artist – we built our textures in very high-dentition. They could be used in a movie. Then we compress them, but sometimes they forget to do the compression and it still works! [Laughs][...]

I'm curious what happens to the extra live though.

Not sure why uncompressed textures is a selling point...the game already looked gorgeous on Wii U (and PS3 and 360 I'm assuming), and I never felt like the load times were an issue (but power to them if they got rid of them completely).

I guess I'm still confused as to why Ubisoft is porting this other than an easy cash grab.

Uncompressed textures means there is no quality loss. Any texture that is compressed gets tiled and loses color.

Thanks for the info you two. I think I'll probably go with the XB1 version then, didn't think about dark10x's point about having to look at the Wii U's screen while I'm sitting right infront of my nice TV.

So anyone who's played this, is it more enjoyable to play the Murfy levels with touch controls or am I better off with non-touch. I played them a bit in the demo on wii-u and didn't really like the levels and heard PS3 and 360 just map him to one button. What do you guys think?

If the consensus is that it's better with Murfy button mapped, I'm going to go with Xbox One.

Can someone please explain what the purpose of triple dipping on a game like this is? Don't mean to troll, I just genuinely can't understand this. Ok, if you want to have it portable and at home, that I can see. But to re-buy the exact same game because they cut out 10 seconds of loading, and the textures are slightly more HD than they already were? Some gamers have an "interesting" way of managing their budget.

BTW I found the touchscreen murphy stages really fun on Wii U, I really can't imagine any other way of playing those stages.

I sold my Xbox 360 version of the game for $45 as soon as the version on next gen consoles was announced.

So yeah, the better textures, faster loading times plus the convinence of starting the game simply by saying its name (Xbox One) is enough for me to want the next gen version even though I already had it/played it on the Xbox 360. I like the game that much.

i bought this on vita, but i'd possibly get this if it has online co-op. my friend is getting the game and i'd love to play with him.

does anyone know if there is online co-op?
