Just 100 more people needed for this to be as good as Resident Evil 6.
Definitely the game that Cliffy was talking about when he said a next-gen new IP needed 10 million sales to break even
I sure do hope the final product is amazing.

From what I read MS were unwilling to foot the bill for this and passed on it. Don't think it has anything to do with Bungie relationship with MS at the time. Not really sure that's accurate, seeing as how Bungie seemed to want to break it off and do their own thing. I'm pretty sure they felt they'd outgrown Microsoft.
MMORPGs usually fail, but on consoles they wont right?
... Right?
That...makes me kind of worried actually. Projects of that scale are unbelievably difficult to land. What makes it surprising is how poor a job Bungie has done demonstrating the scale of Destiny. On paper it sounds vast, but we have yet to see any of said vastness. Here's hoping.
This is a huge ambitious project unlike something that has ever been made and people want the entire thing spolied in previews? I was so disappointed that Bungie more or less showed every single location in Halo Reach in Vidocs and trailers leading up to launch. There were no "Wow what a cool location" moments when actually playing the game since we already saw it through Bungie made previews. For something so new and groundbreaking don't you want to experience it fresh on 9/9/14 and not have everything spoiled for you? What does have me worried is the general lack of hype that seems to be surrounding this game. Anytime there is new Destiny news it dies off after a page or 2. Being that it seems pretty apparant that Destiny is indeed the mystery title that needs 10 million in sales to just break even according to the one and only Clifford B I would be concerned if I were Bungie.
Same here. And I'm a huge Halo fan.
Microsoft did indeed pass on the project, as did some other partners. MS did not like the Bungie's demands of IP ownership + huge investment. Not really sure that's accurate, seeing as how Bungie seemed to want to break it off and do their own thing. I'm pretty sure they felt they'd outgrown Microsoft.

I hope that means a PC version is coming.
Didn't Cliffy B make some weird tweet once about how some new AAA franchise will have to sell 10 million to just cut even, or something like that?oh boy. This shit will need to sell BIG
Going by Halo 3s 2007 September release we can expect May/June.what was the date set for the beta after the delay?

I remember they stated that they have a 10 year lifelong plan for this game ^^
Destiny is not an MMORPG.
Good thing this is the least likeliest thing to bomb this year.
Really ? I am not seeing much hype for it outside of gaf.
We're within 10 months of the release date. I feel like there should be more dirt on this game by this point, even by Bungie standards and practices. Something just feels really off.
How hurt will Bungie be if this game doesn't sell multiple millions?
That sounds like a lot of people to pay. I'm sure they have lots of money to play with from the Halo years, but still.
Well, sort of—development advances cover dev costs, but Bungie's contract can and will almost certainly be terminated if Destiny doesn't reach certain sales targets. It would be devastating for not only Bungie, but potentially have very serious repercussions for the entire industry.Bungie won't be touched. They're on contract. They're paid already.
Activision would have to deal with it.
September 9th is less than 8 months away. The beta will likely release within 6 months, which is plenty of time to acquire your metaphorical lube. We're within 10 months of the release date. I'm still hoping for some huge reveal that bends me over and rails me in the ass with its awesomeness and proves me wrong. A reveal that would totally expel the doubts I've had, and justify the huge amount of time and money spent on this game. I really, really, want to happen. I love Bungie too much for that not to happen.
But I really don't know if that's gonna happen like previous Bungie games. That's what is freaking me out.
The contract we read had serious caveats if the game underperforms.I doubt that Bungie has a contact that would leave them in the lurch in that event. Do you really think that would be the case?
Either way, those 500 employees are payed for, at least for Destiny 1.
Dunno where you're getting this, but Bungie's contract can and will almost certainly be terminated if Destiny doesn't reach certain sales targets. It would be devastating for not only Bungie, but potentially have very serious repercussions for the entire industry.
I get the impression these are actually almost all Bungie employees instead of contractors.
