Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

It gets even worse in team fights! A team of Snake and MK could have the snake stick the MK with one of those bombs and then MK would go grab someone D-throw and while they were mid-air snake would detonate the bomb killing the other player while MK would just take percent damage and float safely back

*up-throw
but yes

Everyone was doing character rosters, so I decided to try my hand at a stage roster (Wii U version). It's rough and not terribly pretty to look at, but it is what it is:

No names, as is customary, and you're supposed to guess, I guess.

The images are more intended to show what I think they should be based on, not what the stages themselves would actually look like.

Though I will give you the answer to one of them, because it's just not possible to guess--dark green one with the tree on the bottom left of the main group is supposed to be a Fire Emblem countryside type thing, kind of a field battle version of Castle Siege. Not easy to get a picture that communicates this idea.

Maybe I'll do a 3DS one later.

Any answers to this?

I would like to add other comment from Apex thread.

Actually, it doesn't even have to be explosions, it's any move that deals knockback will have player 1 get knocked out of the grab and player 4 will just take the damage. It also matters for during throws as well, so if MK's Bthrow didn't have invincibility he would have been hit out of it and Snake would have just gone into the grab release animation.

up throw, as the name implies, has MK fly up to the top of the stage before dropping back down
down throw is just MK stomping on the other guy

Yeah I know I just didn't remember the input or even that he had a throw like his real D-smash until you explained it

One thing I like the look of in Triple Deluxe is the multiple moves for power ups. Having had Fun Pak as my first Kirby, discovering that other Kirbys just had one move per power was rather underwhemlings

Return to Dream Land actually brought it back en masse, so if you're a big fan of Super Star/Super Deluxe/Fun Pak you might want to check it out. It's got some pacing issues but it's a really solid game. Triple Deluxe looks fantastic for the same reasons.

What's with all this talk about Nintendo Directs? Is there one coming up?

With their recent financial woes and the investor call coming up, it's expected that Nintendo will bombard us with announcements and info in an attempt to offset some of the money they've been hemorrhaging since the last quarter.

Hoots from SmashBoards said:
I'm fairly certain that this is the information we needed to verify the Salromano leak. First, because it's a 5-year member of Neogaf, we know that he's not some troll, pulling this out his *** for kicks like the Gamefaqs kids.

With the story leroidys' friend told him, it seems pretty clear that the source of Salromano's prediction/leak also played this E3 build and assumed, rightly so, that all of the newcomers in it would have been revealed at E3, since that was the version we actually saw played (albeit for one short match).

My assumption is that the plan was to reveal all 6 of the newcomers at E3. This would make sense and continue the pattern (Melee-4, Brawl-5, U/3D-6). However, I'd imagine executive meddling may have gotten Little Mac, Pacman, and Mii held back for marketing (or other unknown) reasons.

Or this is all just a complete hoax perpetrated by people who just don't give a ****. Who knows.

I felt same but he said it way better than I could have.

Oh I see, then hopefully it'll be full of release dates for previously announced games (looking at you Mario Golf).

There's been at least one Nintendo Direct (big or small) per month since June 2012, but we haven't gotten one yet this month.

Thinking about it now, because of that january direct last year, it kinda screwed up when they would actually make announcements so they would have to make a direct at the earliest this month and latest feb because, well, thats when you make announcements of games normally when its been a whole year.

Haha, that's hilarious.

This is just one of the side effects of Kirby's PAL territory persecution.
I'm better off importing it from America since I did mod my Wii, but I like playing Wii games on my Wii U now since the picture is cleaner.

Guess this is punishment for not buying a Kirby since Power Paintbrush.

Wait thats it, what if the dude a few pages back was saying when the Nintendo dudes couldn't play kirby in the beta was becuase Kirby gets multiple moves off his rivals?

I wish Sakurai would add more characters in general. It sounds like we're probably getting like, only ten newcomers at most? Pretty lame.

The more time and work making characters, the less time and more work there is to balance and such.

I'd rather have quality over quantity.

Nothing he's said has really implied anything about a low number of newcomers, though it does seem like it'd be unsustainable to keep growing the roster at the same rate.

There's never going to be a balanced Smash Bros. And besides, I'd rather have 55 kinda-balanced characters than 40 highly-balanced ones.

I like to think the Smash Bros. metagame with regards to character balance works better compared to the likes of Pokemon than Street Fighter or Killer Instinct, honestly. A tiered system of SSS-list, A-list, ganon-list, etc. fighters seems like it's a better fit for trying to get as many Nintendo reps in as possible rather than trying to perfectly balance 30-50 characters and have all of them be unique and be able to go toe-to-toe with one another.

even Pokemon is more balanced than Brawl, because of that team aspect

Balance is just one aspect. When I say that, I mean that overall polish would almost certainly suffer.

I don't want another Brawl situation where things don't feel right.

Ten is going to be about a quarter of the roster. Why the hell are people moaning?

That's what I'm thinking.

Personally, I would love a revamp of Kirby's moveset

Special Up- tornado
Smash down- new bell powerup move that hits both sides
His normal side attacks should use his hammer
His special side could be something. Beetle, jet, I don't know.

I had a few other ideas, can't recall at the moment.

But right now, I feel like his moveset could be revamped to both fir him better and make im better in the game
