Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition PC

Also, the cutscene is likely in real-time, as the lower polycount on the ganados is present in the Wii version, as well.

I wonder how hard it would be for them to switch in the higher detailed Ganado models you see elsewhere. Again, probably an easy mod even if they don't bother.

it totally messes up the weapon balance by making sniping distant targets HARDER with a rifle than with a pistol. it also makes the stability upgrades useless, and just something you have to do to unlock the exclusives.

as always first timers should play with a pad. you can replay it however you want (it's a blast with the Wii mote) but anything other than a pad on the first play through messes up the tension somewhat.

Need this post at the top of every page.

Dolphin

Textures look better on the PC version compared to the Wii version running on Dolphin. Even if it's minuscule it's still better than nothing (doesn't look as pixilated)

Same here, actually playing it now, just got to the part where
You blow the whistle outside to get the dogs to come

I played this game an unholy amount of times. Even played Real Survival and Invisible Enemy modes...I think I should give it a replay, it's been years and should feel fresh now. I kinda stopped playing it after RE4.

The image quality is the real difference I think. But it seems to be missing some of the fog...hmmm.

I recently replayed REmake in Dolphin. Still holds up really well.

Nope.

Character models yeah, backgrounds not so much.
It's a shame that games with pre-rendered backgrounds are doomed to never get proper HD versions unless they get remade completely.

A million dollars, I will pay. Another great reason for me to main PC for the next couple of years.

Now release Devil May Cry 3 Ultimate Edition, Capcom. Add Boss Rush mode, retroactive Nero and DMC4 Dante to it, and I'll never play anything else.

at the same resolution? YUP.

RE4 does this weird upscaling thing internally that you can't turn off. rendering at 1080p, for example, the Wii version will internally render the game in 4:3 (with a vertical resolution of 1080) letterboxed. it then upscales that to 1080p to hide the letterbox.

throw in that the Wii version (like all the others) runs at 30 fps, and a couple of missing effects are not going to make up losing about 1/3 of your resolution and running at half the framerate.

This is the first I've heard of RE4's letter boxing :O How did you find out about that, anyway?

I was just going to play my Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (since I like wiimote aiming the best of all the options), but hell, I like mouse aiming even more! I'll definitely pick this up (on sale)

how much the HD edition compare to the Game Cube version ?
i saw some gamplay on the Game Cube version and like it more then the HD
the lighting effect was very good

If I picked this up it would be for Mercenaries, but I'm not sure if I can go back to old Mercenaries after RE6.

What does this mean for Dragon's Dogma!?

Its not possible right now because the game was designed for HD consoles and the extra work put towards the MT framework engine to make this work on consoles would have to be entirely redone on PC, doubling the budget.

I wouldn't put it past them to copy/paste this excuse and announce it officially.

They never would though, since MT Franework is a PC engine.

Well, back when the PS2 version came out and offered a 'proper' widescreen mode, I compared what was being output there, to outputting the game letterboxed and using the zoom function of my TV and found there was no difference.

When the Wii version came out I checked again, and found the same thing. When they got it working on Dolphin I did some screenshot comparisons to see what happened with the internal scaling.

If you run the game on Dolphin in 4:3 at 1280 x 960 (a 4:3 resolution) what you get should look identical to running the game in 16:9 at 1280 x 720, just with black borders top and bottom, but cropping the 1280 x 960 shot and comparing it to the 720p shot, the 720p version looked notably worse.

or you can just do the whole pixel counting thing. but that's how I found out anyways.

Cool info, thanks for the explanation.

5. game pad vibration ON/OFF

This is great news! I had been planning on replaying the game through Dolphin but my CPU wasn't quite up to snuff for the emulation and I could never get the aiming to feel right when using my 360 controller.

Hopefully it's a nice port, RE4 deserved so much better on the PC.

Mouse look with no accel? Praise be! I think this one aspect might actually sell me on it, no joke.

Haven't played this in years. I've beaten it like 5 or 6 times, so I know the game inside and out. It would be nice to have it tied to my Steam account though. Like someone else said I'll get it, but I'll wait for a sale.
