AudiophileGAF, are these good cans? Amazon is having a sale.

those are what I'm using. They are good with pretty much anything that is not the stock cable actually. I tried it with a bunch of cheap cables I have around and hear no difference

I also have a 225i as well and while I love it these blow the grados out of the water. Sounds better and 100x more comfortable. My grados feel like sand paper now that I'm used to the phillips

I hate who I've become. I guess that answers my question. Thanks!

Ordered instantly.

Some quotes from headfi:

At $250 these are a great deal, at $150 these are a no-brainer. If you don't own a pair of these, there is no excuse not to pick them up now. The X1s are some of the best headphones I've heard at any price range.

The Fidelio comes out swinging. My first thought when I heard the X1 was something like "This is exactly what I have always wanted out of an open backed, bassy headphone." The X1 has an open, spacious, lively, energetic, yet controlled sound. It is tonally on the warm side due to the bass, but verges on neutral. The treble gives the X1 a nice amount of energy despite most of the treble actuallyu being on the smooth side. The X1 to me is at odds with itself. Not in a bad way, mind you. By odds, I mean that it doesn't know if it wants to be a basshead headphone, or an audiophile headphone. Both? That sounds about right. A basshead/audiophile headphone.

Q: For people who use with PS4/PS3 - whats the best way to connect them?

A: With a mic, Astro Mixamp + V-MODA BoomPro, without a mic, TB DSS.

thanks OP.

i have some senn hd 550s and kiplish iems for home use and commuting, respectively.... but maybe i need some nice cans for the office hrmmmm

Wow, thanks! I was in need of headphones and was planning on getting ones that weren't nearly as good for money reasons. But I start a new job next week and figured I'll have the money now. For the people who use them in public, do you use any time of carrying case?

These are my current headphones btw, should be a nice upgrade :D

Thank you for the detailed responses. It looks like a solid pair that's good for all sorts of content (like my PS4 controller! See, gaming!). I ordered a pair. I've had some good IEMs before but never a good pair of headphones, so I look forward to trying these out.

You will like it for gaming a lot with it's great open soundstage, though the bass can be overpowering at times.

Damn, i bought last week Sony MDR-MA900 for 130€, i was between this and Fidelio X1 (two of the better options i read for Gaming, right?), but was too expensive here in Europe, now with Amazon shipping to Spain they cost ~150€.

Easily one of the best headphones at its price range which I've tried

There were supply issues during the latter part of year since demand for the X1 were so high. I had to wait two months to receive my order. That should give you some insight on the cans quality.

I own them myself and yes, they're pretty awesome.
They're open though and leak a lot, which is why I bought new closed ones a few months ago. You don't want to use them in public transportation, believe me.

Would these be a decent upgrade to my Sennheiser HD 448's? Can't say I have been too impressed with these headphones, and am looking for something better (I'm ok with the idea of open headphones as I mostly use them for in-house listening and gaming).

I'm a cheap ass bastard, so I use Superlux cans and they're awesome. I have both the HD 662F (closed) and the HD 681F (semi-closed) and they have the sound quality of much higher priced cans.

The HD-25 and the X1 are different headphones so they can't really be compared. One is a closed DJ monitor, the other is an open can meant for use at home. Both are great cans but I wouldn't pit these against each other.

X1s for $150 are a ridiculous, ridiculous value. RIDICULOUS. These are warm bassy cans so if that sound appeals to you BUY BUY BUY

wtf it's over!!!!

Des I need to be on your speed dial so you can call me about shit like this. It was code red and I missed it...

I have a feeling my new Amperiors are going to last me a long time. They're perfect for gaming and music alike, with just enough punch to justify the clear-ass sound quality (without going overboard, either).

I have its little brother the L1, and although you're fine without an amp, I suggest you get one especially if you're gonna use it with PS4/Xbone.

Yeah they are great for gaiming, I use my X1s (with a Fiio E17 amp) most days and I still love them. The last few years I have had a few sets of headphones and since I have had the X1s I have not even thought about buying any other headphones. They are the best sounding and most comfortable headphones I have ever used.

I still have my Beyerdynamic DT770s as they are closed cans, but do not use them much now.

I too would recommend a set of HD 25s or if you have a little more in your budget the Amperiors.

The only issue with both these sets of cans is that for folk with larger ears they can be a bit of a pain for prolonged usage.

If you use headphones for hours on end I would recommend the HD 215s, they aren't the most attractive cans, nor the greatest (in comparison to some of the really high end ones that can cost much, much more), but you can wear them all day and they are pretty cheap for such a good solid set. We use them at work for editing, and a bunch of film mixers/foley editors who hang around work have started using them from our recommendations when they need to use cans.

I got myself a pair of these not too long ago -- Corsair Vengeance 2000

Excellent headset, but not too sure how the sound quality compares to audiophile headphones. Either way, they are wireless, can be found nowadays for like 125-150 normally, and I highly recommend them as they won't have the problems of the headset you posted. I'm very happy with them and use them all the time. :)

Wow, they sold out that fast? I was thinking of a 2nd pair sleeping...

Since I missed this I will probably be getting the pair in your portraint. Damn though I wanted these more.
Consider looking into the Samson SR850. They're much cheaper than the AD700.

While the X1s sold out, the O'Neill Crash is still half-off (and the "deal of the day" so stock is likely higher). Have no idea how they compare, if at all, but they're Philips and have the same MSRP as the X1s. They're closed, bass-heavy, and built to be abused but hopefully sound similar? Maybe Des can weigh in, couldn't find many reviews online.

This is your favorite gif haha.

lol it is.

I actually made this particular version off of an HD source since the only ones I could find previously were low resolution.

Since I missed this I will probably be getting the pair in your portrait. Damn though I wanted these more.

AD700s are pretty solid, I believe they have stopped manufacturing this particular style and have moved over to a more expensive iteration.

Its funny to see the prices of the AD700s rise over the years as Audio Technica slowly realized they had a cult favorite on their hands.

I'll make sure to stop in there more often, I always forget about that thread.

Are removable ear pads really a big issue? I'm asking because I have no idea and my older headphones ear pads seem to be fine.

Great deal, but I already have a couple pairs of ATH-M50s and I'm having a hard time justifying to myself that an upgrade is worth it when those are still in great condition. Sound leaking out kills half the reason for me to wear headphones at work (Don't want people hearing me listen to Castlevania soundtracks lol).

Still, this sure is tempting.

Enthusiasts will find the smallest detail to find issue with. It might be legitimate, but it's not going to be noticeable for a lot of regular users.

Despite this, they know what they're talking about, so it's worth consideration at least.

These cans are set to arrive tomorrow, and I'm pretty excited to use them as I haven't really had a good pair of headphones before.

I didn't realize when I made this thread that the deal price was so good and sought after by enthusiasts. I guess I checked Amazon sales at just the right time.

Perfect thread to ask this. OP I dont mean to hi jack your thread..

Are these considered pretty good? all the reviews have been giving these such high praise. Calling them the next best thing over a proper AV receiver system

Yeah you're actually super lucky to have got them when you did.

I think I asked this in another thread, but are the Sony MDR-7506's good?

I'm looking to replace my very old Senn HD 555s.

Solid. Considered the standard in editing and mixing. My personal experience with Sony MDRs says they are absolute tanks that will last years.

I pulled the trigger on the Fidelios and I'm loving them. Really need to get something better than onboard sound to take full advantage of them.

You will like it for gaming a lot with it's great open soundstage, though the bass can be overpowering at times.

Having the opposite experience. Played some CS:GO and it seems pretty tinny. Might just be my crappy onboard sound. I did buy new cables, so it's not that.

I had these before ordering some Beyerdymanic DT770's. Your mind will be blown.

I do think Sennheiser has my favorite cheap headphones, though. They're my go-to brand for earbuds, and I've tried a lot of different stuff.

I can tell you that, although I love and adore my HD 280s, the Fidelios are better in every way. The comfort level is especially off the charts. I hardly notice them, whereas the 280s (and most low end Sennheiser cans, from what I've read) have a pretty aggressive 'clamp' to them around your head. It can be uncomfortable for some.
