...good god why am I arguing this.
What can't be argued against is that Palutena is the next most important character in the series after Pit and she played a huge role in Uprising (both in promos and the game itself) and she is overflowing with moveset potential. I think anyone who knows the first thing about Kid Icarus knows that. So yeah -- I strongly suspect she will be a newcomer in Smash. Definitely one of the safest bets.

Seriously. I still can't believe people are trying to argue against her inclusion. (not the legitimacy of the photo). She's just as, if not almost as, important as Pit in Kid Icarus: Uprising. She's basically half the game.
I won't even begin to try a debate the "goddess" aspect, I just read someone's 6 point "argument" against her inclusion. Minor character? She's the next important character in the the K.I. franchise.

So I went to the Saatchi gallery tonight cos I'm cultured and while I was out I had quite an interesting experience to say the lest. I was walking back to the bus stop having seen all the tacky art on show when out from behind the dustbins a familiar looking figure emerged. It was Sakurai himself! He said to me "I've been watching your posts on the forums very carefully and I see there is a certain individual who thinks poorly of your correct predictions so I have a special gift to you, a preview of a new Smash character." He pulled out a 3DS from his pocket and to my amazement there she was on the screen. I couldn't believe it. "May I take a photo ?"I ask. "Of course" he replies as he pauses the game to zoom in on the character. And so I snapped a photo of this amazing addition to the cast. Unfortunately because I was out I could only take it with my crappy mobile phone so the picture quality isn't that great, but it is clear enough. But attached is a photo of the new character I saw.
But seriously, this was me messing with making my own background from bits and pieces of other screenshots just to see how easy it was. Like the other images I have focused on the sky so I didn't even have to consider platforms and foreground elements, just the sky, those weird hills, some clouds and a tiny bit of tree at the bottom for good measure. But considering I didn't really put much effort into it (I used an eraser rather than carefully cutting out the shapes) I think I made a decent background and if the leaker put even just a fraction more effort than I did then the images he posted would have been easy enough to produce.
Unfortunately I am not skilled in the art of 3D modelling so I just had to make do with a screenshot for now.

It just so happens that there are more prominent female Nintendo characters these days. Rosalina and Wii Fit Trainer didn't exist when Sakurai was planning Brawl, and Palutena is only relevant now due to Uprising. I don't think he's including more females just for the sake of it.

You probably knock her out too fast. If you fight her on high difficulty then you would be more likely to see all of her moveset.

Proof of that. If I could cut out random background elements from a selection of screenshots to make my own background why couldn't the leaker? If we're assuming he went to the effort to make models than he'd likely spend more than the five minutes I spent compositing the background.
Like I said since all I had to do was the sky (like they did) it wasn't hard. But I used a good assortment so no one can just say I used the background from one screenshot.

Fwiw, Pseudo Palutena had the same moveset, so i think we can rule out Chaos Kin having a hand in any of her moves. You know, Palutena had a pretty extensive moveset, almost like it was a trap door for smash

There is quite a bit more going on in the Palutena screens than the background that would take quite a bit more than just a fraction of more effort than what you accomplished, BGBW.

It's within the realm of possibility he could've cut and pasted different parts for Mario I guess, the offscreen nature of the shot could help to obscure telling details.
If he modeled a new Mario that would be impressive, though I guess he could've also modeled say, a new hand pose and edited it in as well. It would be a lot of work though for sure.
Trailers, yes. All media, yes.

Like I've been saying, the background is the least impressive part of the leak. So that element is kind of ruled out. We can't prove that either way. We know that the black outline is a non-issue for a faker. Putting together a shot isn't a problem if you have the characters ready.
So because of that, now, it's completely down to the models.
We have a Mario that doesn't line completely up with any seen shot so far. Close could be enough for manipulation though.
We have Palutina that looks similar to several designs, but small details are changed. Could be manipulation, but seems a little odd. Poses aren't the same as any known model.
I'll say what I said on another forum: it smells like a fake to me. No leaker would take the time to get these perfectly arranged shots instead of just taking a pic of regular gameplay, and even then they certainly wouldn't have taken top screen-only photos instead of showing off the so far unrevealed bottom screen.

I'd guess the reason for that would be that the bottom screen doesn't actually have anything on it right now, so no reason to get a black screen in there.
But, it does seem fishy that it's so planned out and clean looking.

I don't think that's part of the staff at all, I think it's just a shaded part of the texture on her robe. Same color and everything.
That's a crease in her clothing. The coloration is an exact match.

I don't see what you're talking about. Right where the staff ends and her dress begins? That's just a shadow.
That's most likely just a coincidence that that area of the dress has a light shade of blue. Just like that star-shaped thing looking like a Power Star.
