Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Here's another Pokémon idea: Sableye (with Prankster)!

First, he comes out and uses Taunt. Everyone who is doing anything other than an attack fails to do what they were trying to do, I.E. those trying to recover simply fall, etc. Then Sableye uses Will-O-Wisp and inflicts everyone with Burn status, reducing their attack power in the process. Then the players try attacking Sableye, because he won't go away normally, but he holds on with Focus Sash, and then uses Recover. He then uses Foul Play on the nearest player, and powerhouse characters like Ganondorf and Bowser are hit the hardest by this, because it calculates its power based on the target's Attack stat, not Sableye's.

Sounds reasonable. Yep.

I love this build in Pokémon XY.

Sounds a lil OP...I like it.

If we're going this far, let's add in SwagKeys, too.

-Klefki comes onto the field and taunts all enemy players, randomizing their button inputs but giving them quadruple attack damage.
-Klefki spawns a Substitute for you.
-Klefki uses Thunder Wave to slow down opponents.
-Klefki finishes by projecting Reflect for a while.

dude just stop

Uhhh, what?

Anyways, lets talk about Pokemon (you can leave now Red Arremer :p). Specifically, PokeBall Pokemon. What non-legendary (we're obviously getting Xerneas and Yveltal) Pokemon from Gen 6 would you like to see?

I think we can see Klefki being a Pokeball Pokemon, though I'm not sure what it would do.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE

Poké-buddy! :-D

I think a good way to implement a TW101 character would be as follows:

Only one character is shown onscreen at a time. You can switch between them, like Pokémon Trainer. So start as Red, and switch to Blue, then Green, etc. Changing the character changes their normal attacks, I.E. Red is all about fisticuffs, Blue is all about swordplay, Green is all about his gun (yes, for his normal attacks -- like Mega Man). But then, when you use their specials, you get the full-sized Unite Morph, in which you can see all of the other Wonderful Ones interlocking to form the morph. So Red can punch with a super-sized fist and lob fireballs, Blue can slice and dice with a massive blade and unleash lightning bolts, Green can fire human bullets out of a massive pistol or bazooka and even gather up his foes to use as projectiles. And so on, and so forth. And their shared recovery move could be the hang-glider. :)

It'd require a lot of work, but such a character would truly capture the team element of The Wonderful 101.
This sounds so freaking perfect. Thanks man, now I'm going to be even more disappointed when it doesn't happen. DX

Avalugg can be a walking platform!
I would love this. And if it falls off of a ledge, it does heavy damage to anyone it lands on.

They would be my dream pick as well.

My possible but not probable pick would go to
the_wonderful_101.jpg

I honestly think Nintendo would sooner have B&K in a smash game than a W101 character. As awesome as W101 is it doesn't have any sort of clout with most Nintendo fans especially with those disheartening sales...

But Sakurai gets to ultimately choose and isn't he bros with Kamiya?

I'm curious:

Out of all the newcomers, if you were allowed to decide just one, who would you pick to join the fray?

Mega Man, no question. He's one of my favorite characters of all time and I wanted him to be in Brawl so hard it was ridiculous. Now that it's actually happening, it feels like a dream come true.

That's not to say I don't like the other newcomers -- Rosalina specifically was on my wish list, and I'm thrilled she's in! But Mega Man takes top honors for sure.

If we could have any one character? I'd go with MASKS LINK, comprising three playable characters -- Deku Link, Goron Link and Zora Link (with Fierce Deity as the Final Smash).

Basically, you start as the Deku Scrub -- burrowing into the ground, popping out, gliding through the air, spitting bubbles (or hard-hitting deku nuts with a smash attack), and twirling into foes with your whirlwind attack.

Then you can transform into the Goron with the Goron Mask -- rolling around at high speed with your spikes out, unleashing shockwaves with ground pounds, and more.

And then you can transform into the Zora with the Zora Mask -- throwing your fins like boomerangs, drilling through the air Psycho Crusher-style (referencing his swimming), etc. Donning the Deku Mask brings you back to step one.

For their taunts, they could bust out their respective instruments -- the Deku Scrub's pipes, the Goron's bongos and the Zora's fishbone guitar.

It would be the best way to represent the variety of races in the Zelda series, as well as Majora's Mask, which we may very well see remade, remastered or iterated upon soon. :)

It's so perfect. And yet...it wouldn't feel right unless Young Link was a part of the trio. =/

Only one? Well, that's easy:

(<--see avatar)

I envision him playing like an amalgam of Meta Knight, Mega Man, and Pikachu: wings and a sword, a chargeable buster cannon, and a lightning strike.
Please make it happen, Sakurai <3

I left out Young Link because there are already two Links on the roster. If I were to include Young Link in a Masks Link quartet, it would ideally involve Toon Link's moveset being retooled (I.E. Four Sword, Gust Jar, Mole Mitts, Deku Leaf, etc), so that Young Link being a partial clone of regular Link wouldn't seem redundant.

But yeah, Masks Link would be one way to bring back Young Link while at the same time making him unique.

My pick would actually probably be Palutena. I've wanted her in since I played Uprising.

A few years ago I would have said Issac but I think that ship has sailed, both from the perspective of possibility and desirability.

The only character I'd be upset about them dropping is Ike.

Palutena is my most wanted character who is likely. And I'll be thrilled if the leak is legit since I love her model in those screens.

Now that I'm in Japan, it's weird having to remind myself that the pic of the day goes up at around 4pm as opposed to the 11pm I'm used to in my native time zone (Los Angeles, Pacific Standard Time).

It's almost time!

Glad to hear that you made it here safely--welcome! :D

Thanks! It's lovely here. :)

Welcome back! Enjoy your stay in Japan. :)

Thanks! Last time I traveled internationally (to Halifax, Nova Scotia) I got off my flight to discover that Sonic had been revealed for Smash. I was disappointed to find out no such character reveal happened yesterday when I got off my flight to Japan, but I'm hoping the universe just got its time zones mixed up and makes it up to me today!

If I could add just one character to Smash, I would pick the Rhythm Monkey from Rhythm Heaven. Any Rhythm Heaven rep would be great, really, and for a while I wanted the Barista, but I think Rhythm Monkey would be more iconic and unique in its appearance. After all, it's a cute little monkey!

Moveset potential could easily be pulled from the various minigames, and a rhythm mechanic could even be implemented - certain moves, such as Smash attacks, charge in a special way. When you begin charging, a beat like a metronome begins, and the closer you come to releasing on the beat, the more powerful the attack becomes.

Alternately there could be bonuses for attacking to the rhythm of the music playing, but that would be hellish to try and implement and not really worth it as far as gimmicks go.

As much as I enjoy Rhythm Heaven Fever, I think that the series will only get represented as a stage (along with trophies and such, of course).

I don't know if all of that is even necessary. Wonder Red on his own is a pretty solid fighter. Wonder Punch, Wonderful Stinger, Wonderful Cyclone, Wonderful Rising, and more.
Heck, during his solo segments, Wonder Red can even use versions of stuff like Unite Guts (a big burst of energy that knocks stuff back).

I think Wonder Red could be a solid character worthy on inclusion even without his team.

Alternatively, they could use the Wonderful 101 as a replacement for the Fighting Polygons/Wireframes/Alloys. They already come in large numbers and with recycled movesets and character models. Perfect for the 100-man Melee/Brawl/Whatever.

What we need are more "creature" newcomers.

So far, we have:

Villager -- A human (albeit highly stylized)

Wii Fit Trainer -- A human (albeit monochrome)

Mega Man -- A human(-looking robot)

Rosalina & Luma -- A human(-looking goddess)

...and quite likely Palutena -- A human(-looking goddess)

For examples of "creatures," look at Brawl:

Sonic -- A hedgehog!

Squirtle -- A turtle!

Ivysaur -- A dinosaur!

Charizard -- A dragon!

Diddy Kong -- A chimp!

King Dedede -- A penguin!

Lucario -- A Pokémon!

Wolf -- A wolf!

R.O.B. -- A robot!

Meta Knight -- A thing!

...and so on. This is why SSB4 could really benefit from Ridley, or K. Rool, and so on. Enough pale-faced humans!

I agree with every word you said. Add Little Mac and Mii to your list and we'll have two more human newcomers. It's pretty baffling how the roster has already disappointed me and the game isn't even out yet. King K. Rool and Ridley really need to make it in out of principle now. Where's the outrage from the furry community?
