Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Mr. Game & Watch really is a great character. I do hope he returns.

Though, he's not as fun as I want him to be. He has a lot going for him, like extreme power in some attacks, great recovery, decent speed and surprising disjointed range, but it's pretty stressful playing him for some odd reason (even though I do consider myself a semi-decent Game & Watch player).

I've been playing most of the entire roster in Brawl lately as I have nothing better to do, so I've really got to know which characters suit me more and which characters I don't click with (no matter how much I want them to). I consider Marth, Ike, Ness, Wolf and Kirby the most fun to play.

Does anyone else feel this way towards some characters? Like any you'd love to play but you just don't have fun playing?
my favorite character from Melee was Zelda/Sheik so when I started Brawl I used them a ton. Eventually I stopped because they were just nerfed ridiculously and I was trying to force myself to use them.

I see, thanks.
Said Palutena leak is still available?

Edit: nevermind, I found it.
It looks fake to me, I don't know why tho.

A reason why so many people are going crazy about this image is because of some points;

  • There exist no Palutena model that's exact to the screenshot "leaked" (nothing from Uprising or Brawl either). The model also appears to take inspiration from both Kid Icarus: Uprising and Brawl's Palutena.
  • There doesn't appear to be any screenshot that depicts Mario is that exact angle of his standing pose.
  • There appears to be no 3DS backgrounds that match the one in the screenshots. It's a unique angle of Battlefield.

I think that's mostly the basics...

Never really understood this. Since you know she takes on the form of what she hates. And probably wears clothing from a living creature. Hypocrisy!

Smashboards put up a good argument.

When it was "leaked" that there was a Spring release, Sakurai hopped right onto Twitter and disconfirmed it without letting himself be flooded by tweets etc.

This time, he's obviously seen the leak and responded cheekily in the PotD.

It could be legit since he's not denying it...

I'm pretty sure it's real, but I forgot where it appears (it might be only in the demo?)

Not too surprising, since Ace Attorney 2 Capcom's been filling the games with memes...2 had the Fresh Prince song, for example.

May-June time it could be released then! Also during the week hiatus of PotD in an article he did mention that they want to get it out as soon as possible and they're just doing finishing touches.

It could also be fake, since most companies typically have a policy on not commenting on rumors or speculation. Nintendo is one of those.

The point was that the sakurai had already a multiple times commented on speculation. You remember the spring release, you remember those insnae character predictions sakurai actually commented on. If a rumor or whatever gets big enough and its incorrect sakurai seems to not mind commenting on it

However this time he didn't . Not saying that is a confirmation. I still think its some dude with TOO much time. However the situation is peculiar.

Yeah... Sheik in Brawl I actually find quite frustrating and mishandled. Not only do Brawl's floaty physics go against her style, but she also had over-the-top nerfs to go along with that...

Her edge-guard game in Melee was amazing, and she could go a great distance off-stage to get low percent kills thanks to her amazing semi-spike forward aerial. In Brawl, I feel like both of those are barely compared to what they used to be, thanks to how low hitstun is, how much weaker her attacks are and how non-dangerous semi-spikes are to most of the cast because of the floaty physics... so Sheik ends up being a mishandled character that's sort of lost her "game" to me. :(

Even if the pic is fake, Palutena might still be in the game, so Sakurai would be showing his hand too early no matter what he says.

The only possible response to the image is to either say "it's fake, Palutena is not in the game" or "Palutena is in the game, but that image is fake". Or of course, "it's real". The typical Nintendo line is that they don't comment on rumors or speculation, because any comment at all will just increase the wildness of the speculation. The reason Sakurai debunked the release date so quickly is because it wouldn't tip any new information, he just said "we haven't announced a date yet".

Or "the pictures are fake." He doesn't need to say whether or not Palutena's in the game.

It would be awesome if we are getting story mode for smash bros that are influenced by Kid Icarus Uprising . So we can witness all characters with facial expression icons as they are talking (or gestures) to each other.

Samus for me. She's my favorite Nintendo character but she just sucks. I switched over to Zelda in melee since her playstyle fits what I like to do. I'm hoping Samus is improved enough in this one to make me switch back though. I don't mind playing low tier characters, i certainly play enough of them, but Samus just feels awkward. Doesn't help that I don't really like anyone else.

That'd be nice but I doubt a good number of the characters would be doing any talking if it happened.

As long as they're expressive and working alongside talking characters it works out. Kirby was fine in SSE since it was pretty easy to tell what he was thinking, but Link and Mario were just angry the whole time.

So maybe something like melees adventure mode, but with the story playing out through banter below on the second screen? That'd be a pretty nice compromise between melee's lightness and brawl's bloat.

Yeah I can sort of see it working in my mind, I can specially see it working if its not voice acted, as I feel some characters would probably not have dialogue in voice acting, but would feel less weird if it was text only. Luigi, for example.

I would give a part of my soul to Nintendo for this to happen

SSB is generally been pretty weak on characterization, and it's always been a huge missed opportunity. I'd be great if fighters like Samus or whatever could comment on the zaniness at hand. Of course certain characters should be mute (Link...)

They could always go the mario luigi gibberish route along with text.

That's why I said gestures but you got me before I edited my post tho.

Game of the forever if so.

Indeed.

Yeah, I would be completely fine with that.

OK, so like I said earlier, I may just be over thinking things here but it is an interesting thing to note. The funny thing is I was guilty of this is my fake screenshot and no one questioned it so it is not surprising no one thought about it with the leaked screens. To get to the point, the clouds may show signs of fakery and were painted it. Yes, my point of cutting and pasting bits and pieces may be wrong because they just used a brush and painted in the clouds. Of course take this with a pinch of salt because I may just be reading too deeply into this.

Here is a screenshot of battlefield. We have all agreed this is the stage the leaked images are set on. Now I want to focus on the mountain pointing towards the top right hand corner (the / one) and the big cloud to the right of it.

Now what I've observed is that the clouds on this stage are not dynamically generated but simply static images that scroll in the background. This can be seen in the Developer Direct video. The second point is that the images seem to act like the food item from previous smashes in that they always face the camera no matter the angle.

I haven't resized the images. There's a bit of scaling differences which I assume is from the camera zooming in and out but it does show that that cloud's shape lines up and stays constant.

Now for the leaked image.

Noticed that the slanted / mountain is in the background and to the right is the big cloud. I'd also like to note that in my first screen shot there is no other big cloud to the right so I feel it is reasonable to assume that the cloud on the right hand side of the image is meant to be the same cloud I've been talking about.

Now look what happens when I super impose the cloud from a screenshot on top of it.

tljTQWh.gif

Now I'm ignoring shadows and the slight difference in the shape at the top due to it being an off the screen photo. However the area circled is the important part. there is no cloud where there should be cloud. Now I think I've fairly lined up the images and I even changed the perspective to match the slant in the leaked photo. In my opinion the person who made this image thought that adding some cloud to the background would be all they needed to do without considering the fact that the clouds are a fixed shape.

Now of course one could argue that because the clouds that could appear later in the cloud scrolling cycle (which is why I feel the point that the models of Palutena being a bit lifeless looking holds more water) but view the director's video again from the point starting with the Mario model. We can see the sky fading from dusk to day and the cloud I'm focusing on seems to start behind the slanted mountain with no similar tall clouds to the right or the left. I honestly doubt it could be any other cloud. Especially as all day screenshots of this stage seem to have this tall cloud and no other meaning there's a good chance the sky fades to dawn before any other tall cloud could reach this position.

Yes I realise this is completely mad, but it is an aspect no one really questioned. We all just assumed they would have cut out parts from screenshots rather than just painting them in. Just a shame I haven't really got clear screens of the clouds to the left to compare with.
