Wouldn't Tommen be on the throne if it were him, even if Tywin was the one holding court?

That doesn't really matter. There are several reasons on the show that they could have Tywin (the Hand) on the throne pre or post Joffrey death. I still don't think it's Tommen, though, as he's on the wrong side (Mace, Margarey and Loras are all on that side). Tommen would be to the right (our left) of Cersei.

Plus Tommen would probably be wearing a crown, as well as Lannister colors. And he'd probably be sitting down somewhere at least, if not on the Throne. Who is going to take a seat from a king?

Nice shocker from Margaery.

I've just spent the last 1/2 hour watching Red Wedding reactions.

Too bad that I don't think any single event will match that reaction (the PW will probably have a different reaction :p). Maybe the NW betrayal of Jon, but that's maybe about it.

The Jon moment was rough but by that point I wasn't believing anyone was dead for good post-ASoS.

The problem with the Jon moment is no one believes he is dead and unless he shockingly is dead the show will likely just end S5 or S6 on the same thing the book did and I do think show watchers will be fooled.

I don't know... Mel is going to be in the area. Show folks will assume she could resurrect him like Thoros did with Beric.

I think all the Azor Ahai signs are going to go over people's heads though.

Obviously it depends what happens in TWOW but I could see John's stabbing happening in an episode 9, then the final shot of episode 10 being a first sign of his resurrection, most likely Ghost doing something that proves John is alive in him.

Definitely this. They really haven't adressed the prophecies of Azor Ahai and the Prince That Was Promised at all in the show, have they?

Given their track record with the wolves, that'll probably be Ghost's only appearance in the entire season.

It's pretty pointless anyway as the regular viewers aren't going to remember stuff like that. I mean the whole mystery about who was torturing Theon this season only worked because no one could remember that Roose Bolton sent his bastard to Winterfell in Season 2.

Death of Tywin, Shae and Undead Cat in a single episode might do the job.Along of course with the admission that Tyrion's wife was not a whore.

I don't know about the not-a-whore thing, it has not received as much attention in the show. It was a much bigger part of the story in the books.

Tywin and Undead Cat should be big though. Show people seem to really like Tywin, and that should take them completely off guard.

But after Ned and Rob dying previously, show people should be on their watch for additional deaths. I almost hope there are a bunch of fake-outs for other characters, just to mess with people.

This is the season of "omg awesome!" surprises (in general) as opposed to "omg oh no!" which should be a pleasant surprise for the unspoiled audience.

I'm about 10 chapters into the 4th book and holy shit is it dragging. It just feels like absolutely nothing has happened yet except Brianne has wandered around a load of towns.

I really disliked the 4th book for the same reason, expect plenty more wandering. You could always take the boredom out though by reading it in conjunction with the 5th book, someone made a list of the chapters and I know a few people that swear by it.

do you guys think tyrions portrayal in the show is different than in the books? is he more "good" in the show?

I read the series twice in preparation for Dance coming out and I have to admit I really skimmed book 4. Fuck that shit is slow.

I liked AFFC. A lot. I loved the Dorne storyline, and Arya's few chapters. Also, Jaime. I prefer it to ADWD, I think.

Edit: no, wait, I don't. But it's not worse. Just different.

Definitely. In the show he's a total white knight, whereas in the books he does a lot of things for his own pleasures. It seems like he cares a tremendous amount about the Starks in the show (I know he does at least a little bit) but in the books he's only interested in the preservation of his house.

I've been thinking Cersei/Tywin will hang Shae since before Season 3. Although they did play up the jealousy angle last year, I hope Tyrion is the one to do it.

Same. AFFC gets way too much unwarranted hate because it doesn't have a bunch of the fan-favourite characters. The stories are still great (especially Cersei, Dorne and the Sam/Arya crossover stuff).

I would agree, but the chain he bought her last season was clearly meant to take the place of the chain of hands.

There was a lot more awkward sexual situations with him and Sansa in Storm of Swords than the show. He didn't do anything to her but it definitely went a bit further when he was expected to impregnate her.

Personally I can't wait until the show gets to his adventures with Jorah. The two of them are the perfect odd couple.

Don't get me wrong, there's big events to come, but nothing's nearly as deflating as the RW.

And my point with Jon was that yeah there's a lot of ways out and I don't think he's dead either but it's not the fact that he gets betrayed which makes it hurt so much. It's Jon who's had enough, and basically geting his Stark-ness on ready to go against Ramsey and it's such an "Okay! Let's get ready to ro... WHAT THE FUCK? NOOO!" moment.
