Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition PC

Wow, that looks surprisingly good. It's really a testament to the quality of the original graphics, especially the textures.

That and the amazing power of downsampling.

When I was taking screenshots, I found that from a distance the textures held up really well, but as soon as you got close they started to really show their age.

The game can still look really great though. The art design in the castle goes a long way.

So the game cannot actually be played in 16:10, which I suppose is not surprising given the console version is 16:9. Notice the letterbox around 2560x1600, meaning it is actually 2560x1440. I'm not saying this is a negative or complaining, just observing. Anyone hoping to play it in super cinematic 21:9 can probably remove their expectations as well.

It's probably because of how they handle the HUD in the game.

It's actually just rendered as part of the game world.

You can see an example from a GIF I made from the Wii version here.

What the hell is happening here? So the HUD is part of the gameworld, instead of drawn in the viewport all the time like all other games? what a weird decision, I wonder why.

And RE1, 2, Nemesis, RE Remake, RE 0. I hope so, i'd kill for these games on Steam.
I'll buy the whole thing instantly even if it cost $100

I really hope RE 4 sells good. I pre-ordered and can't wait to play it again. Last time i've played was in 2005 when it was released on PS2.

I got almost 100 people wishlisting RE4, but only a few who have bought it so far.

Generally sales explode closer to release, but I have a feeling many are waiting for a sale on this one.

Inception.

Looks like it would be easy to mod out the black bars.

I wouldn't say no to a PC port of RE: Darkside Chronicles either. I really liked it as a light remake of some of the best moments in the classic RE games. Now Umbrella Chronicles.. that was a mess and I hated it.

Although the chances are low, these games have a PS3 version and they would play nice with a mouse, so you never know..

I'm sure a lot of people are also iffy after hearing about the last RE4 port to PC. I've wishlisted it personally only because I'm hoping my girlfriend will get the hint and buy it for my birthday. Otherwise I'll be grabbing it myself.

Any discounts on other sites btw?

It seems potentially possible but I'm not sure how.

They're not just a texture overlayed in the air. If they were I would have just made the texture transparent. There's some really funky stuff going on with that HUD.

Seems to be an individual render view with several layers. So somewhere in that render view it should be possible to just remove the layer containing the black bars. Or replace it with a modified image.

A fair amount of those people probably already own the game in one or several platforms.
At this point it's pretty difficult not to own RE4!

Should had probably included a pre-order discount as well. I doubt many people are eager to pay full-price for a game they own multiple times.

That's a really odd decision, now I'm curious about why they implemented it in such way.

I do like the .gif a lot, always nice to have this type of insight into games.

I'm definitely going to buy this and I have no problem paying the full price but I'm waiting because 1) It's over a month away; still plenty of time for some kind of bad news to come out about the port, and 2) I would like to get 10% or 20% off if at all possible, so I'm waiting to see if anyone sells codes at a discount.

More generally, I would never pre-purchase a digital title this far in advance. I don't give free loans.

Since Valve charges 30% royalty to publishers for the games sold on Steam, and they don't charge for sending keys to resellers like GMG, Amazon, GamersGate, etc.

Does that mean the publishers make more profit by selling their games through GMG, Amazon, etc. rather than Steam since they don't pay royalties?

Well, that depends entirely on the cut that Amazon/GMG take.

They would get a higher profit if they sold steam codes directly on their site though.
It baffles me that more publishers don't take that approach.

As much as I want REmake on Steam, I'll take the fantastic originals as consolation instead, since they would require much less effort on Capcom's part.

I would love it though if they threw a small team of people to work on redoing the prerendered backgrounds on REmake, thankfully the character models hold up really well.

Assuming the distributors' take is less than 30%, yep.

Be sure and tell them to refund to your bank account because they'll most likely refund you steam fun bucks.

According to JaseC they only ever refund you Steam-bucks if you process it yourself with the new link in your Purchase History. Not that I'm too bothered as I'm sure I'll be tempted to buy something with it soon anyway.

This is incredible.

I feel like I learn something new about RE4 every time I play it, or in today's case see a gif.

A few days ago I learned there are two Dr. Salvadors (chainsaw man) in the Village. One with a Ruby and the other with cash. It took me almost 7 years to find that out. 7 years! and I still find tiny things like that. God, I love this game...

Publishers give the same percentage to other stores as well. That is how you see Amazon and GMG undercutting Steam, they are taking off of their percentage of the total.

I'm just waiting to see if my budget clears up enough to purchase really.

Gamefly has it for $15 with coupon.

By buying this, you get a Steam key right? So someone else could buy it for me and then gift it to me?

Edit: I also meant, will the preorder goodies come to me if I got the code, or would they be locked to whoever bought the key for me?

Keys aren't immediately sent. Ideally they'd be given out some time before release, but typically they go out day of.

Yeah, if you want the money to go back to your credit/debit card or PayPal account you'll have to get a refund ye olde fashioned way.
