Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Both Sonic and Mega Man have had long-term, consistent relationships with Nintendo platforms. Snake has not.
Snake has never been important to Nintendo. Nothing's changed since Brawl. In fact, Kojima acknowledges Metal Gear's irrelevance to Nintendo as one of the reasons Snake was put in Brawl in the first place:

Aside from his son's pleading, Kojima pointed to Metal Gear's low profile on Nintendo consoles as a second reason.

"As you know, we did make Twin Snakes, but generally speaking, there hasn't been a lot of Metal Gear on Nintendo platforms. So from that perspective, I thought it was a good way to expose younger people to this character, Snake," he said. It must be working, as Snake is one of Brawl's most popular characters.
Snake isn't in Smash Bros. because he's a Nintendo all-star; he's in Smash Bros. because he's a video game all-star. If Sakurai was okay with including him in Brawl, I don't see why he'd suddenly be against it now.

That's basically the point I was trying to make. He's had about four games released on Nintendo platforms.

I still believe that Snake was included due to having some history on Nintendo on the NES with the original Metal Gear games. Or was at least part of it. Honestly I'd rather have Simon Belmont or a Castlevania character but Capcom already has a representative so I don't think he has a chance.

You know I actually mean Konami

Sakurai is also against cutting characters. If he ever had to cut Snake it would be because:
1) Konami didn't ask this time
2) They declined any possible offer for Snake (similar to how Sega said no to Sonic at the start)

I had a dream Nintendo released SSB4 out of the blue like Beyoncé's album. There was a huge roster full of really lame characters, but the only one I remember is Waluigi. I was pretty disappointed with the roster so waking up was a relief :p
Sounds like you've been reading SmashGAF too much

Guys, here's all I want and I'll be happy. Rate how probable these are to be in Smash 4:

Bayonetta
Solid Snake
Wonder Red
Banjo-Kazooie

Palutena
75%
Sakurai loves kid icarus and "more females in the roster".
The image is still fake

Bayonetta
0,5%
If she was important enoght to gaming Nintendo would not need to fund the second game

Snake
50%
Kojima's choice.
I doubt it

Wonder Red
10%
Assist Trophy at MAXIMUM

Banjo-Kazooie
-30%
Maybe even less

2) They declined any possible offer for Snake (similar to how Sega said no to Sonic at the start)
Seems like the only option to me. I'm 99% sure Sakurai would have at least tried putting him back in. No one else in the roster plays like Snake does.

Of course it's possible, but I just don't see why Konami would suddenly be against having Snake in SSB4. They were fine with him being in Brawl, and they were fine with Raiden being in the unproven PlayStation All-Stars. Considering the success and visibility of the Smash Bros. series, it seems like a win-win for any publisher to have one of their characters included.

Interesting to say the least. Sakurai doesn't seem like the person that would ask permission to do stuff (rather, the other way around). If he did and was denied the license, God knows what would happen.

I am particularly interested in the voice acting.

Who would be snake, would they actually get Keifer? Or would they try and get David, although i don't think them and david left on the best terms. So I dunno even know how that would work. Would they get some impersonator? Like how KH does?

Exactly, I feel that Snake has a chance of returning

I'm sure they'll reuse voice samples from the last game (like 90% of the Smash Bros. roster), and if Sakurai wants to do Codecs again, NoA can just bring Hayter back. The situation is definitely way overblown.

Speaking of voice acting, I wonder if they're gonna finally incorporate the DK Jungle Beat voice samples they've been using for DK in all of his appearances EXCEPT Smash.

Fanservice (an important element of the Smash Bros.) would call for Hayter, while "consistent brand structure" would probably necessitate Keifer. I think that if it was up to Nintendo, they'd try to get Hayter on the game, but Konami might not allow it (so not to give the wrong impression). But then we don't really know what they have in mind for Solid Snake. It's not out of mind to consider them going back to David Hayter if they had Solid Snake on a future game (especially if he had to co-exist with Big Boss, like in a Metal Gear 1/2 remake, or was in a smaller role).

Although it's possible that we get Big Boss this time around; after all, the last Nintendo Metal Gear was Snake Eater 3D. If that was the case, it's hard to imagine anyone other than Keifer on the role.

I wonder for Pokémon Trainer. For whatever reason, he was voiced by Michele Knotz (an establish Pokémon voice actress that isn't the one that voices Ash) in Brawl. But Red is voiced by Bryce Papenbrook in Origins, and I don't see why they'd go with anyone other than him in SSBfor.

Please no. That voice is so fucking annoying. It's grating my nerves so much so that whenever I see DK is part of a GP in Mario Kart or a sports game, I reset until he's not.

I created a stage idea for Monster Hunter, even though it won't happen:

It's set in the arena used for the challenge fights.
Is a flat area with two rocky pillars on either end, with small platforms jutting out the sides of it.
The background has the large arena door, which opens midway and a monster will appear, such as Deviljho and wreck havoc, which will destroy the pillars and leave a rocky battlefield.

Yay.

3%. Low selling title, new IP no one has heard of. I don't think he has much to give for a moveset yet, and the future of the IP is likely non-existent.

Clearly you haven't played the game.

The variations of Unite Hand (stinger, rising, etc) alone would fill his specials, along with guts.

That would make me extremely happy.
So obviously Sakurai won't do it.

I'm not sure the titles are a pun (for = 4) so much as they are the most straightforward way for befuddled parents and grandparents to not buy the wrong copy for lil' Snooky and Booger.

Not if konami/Koji-pro says no.

Also hayrer does not seem to be on the best terms .. with anything snake involved at the moment. And his primary income is not in voice acting. So its no skin of his back.

The voices in the recent Mario Kart games seriously bugs me, at least the Wii game. If it's any indication of how DK sounds then... don't put that in Smash Bros, please.

I think it's safe to say that every character sounds obnoxious in Mario Kart Wii.

I also can't stand any DK voice that is not either the Smash Bros. voice or the DK64 voice.

OKEY!!

I love DK, but I fucking hate him in Mario Kart, his voice pisses me off so much.

Its funny because I have a friend who actually DESPISES the idea of Mii as a character in Smash Bros. But his reason is odd.

He HATES how they sound in Mario Kart and is convinced those voices will carry over to Smash Bros, and that's why he doesn't want them in haha

That reason isn't nearly as bad as not wanting Mii in Smash because it'll be too popular.

Palutena -- with those leaked images, whether fake or not, i think it's likely

Solid Snake -- given his appearance last time, I think there's a good chance. How about Big Boss for a change?
Wonder Red -- likely
Banjo -- nope

Mii's voices for Mario Kart Wii weren't that bad but those for Mario Kart 7... he's completely right. They sound like Yoshi choking lol

The Miis in NSMBU sound like rubbish as well...
