Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I want KI to become a franchise just to make this possible.

Only problem is that Sakurai expressed no interest in returning to Kid Icarus after Uprising and someone other than him would do it.

Who'd be competent enough to make a game as good as Uprising was?

I don't think anything could bring me away from liking Medusa more. :)
Plus, she's a female villain, we don't need no sausagefest badguy camp.

Honestly, she's a rather boring character in game full of some of the most entertaining characters Nintendo has ever had. That is why people are asking for Palutena, Hades, Viridi, even Magnus and Pittoo over her.

Oh I don't doubt that. But I know where my tastes are. At best, I'd end up liking a character about as much as Medusa.

Hey, do you guys and gals remember how freaking incredible the Brawl soundtrack was? Of course you do!

I haven't been following the new games as closely as I should, but have they talked about the music at all? Is it safe to assume they'll be giving the soundtrack the same deluxe treatment?

They've said absolutely nothing about it, unfortunately.

I'd love to see Dark Pit in the game as an alternate costume for Pit, complete with original VA and lines.

As for the other characters, I don't think Viridi really warrants a spot as a playable character given we never actually see her fight so her stage cameo works fine. I think Palutena is the most deserving newcomer from the Kid Icarus series, and as far as runner ups I would take Magnus first given he already has an established fighting style. Not sure how Medusa or Hades would translate given their massive scale. I know the "too big" argument is a bit of a joke, and Ridley in theory sounds like he could be scaled down to work but I can't say the same about those two.

I've beat the game and I still would put Medusa above Hades. Her design really is badass, and she is still one of the top three most vital characters of the series.

Hades would be right behind, though. I can't see where anyone would see the justification for Dark Pit, Viridi or Magnus before those two (outside of personal fandom).

Edit: Also, I assume all the gods can scale themselves at will. From what I remember,
when you fight Palutena she's normal size

Joke post?

Medusa does have one of the most awesome evil character designs in recent nintendo games.

...that said, I don't think Kid Icarus is as important to Nintendo history as some of you guys think =x

So, speaking of Kid Icarus, I haven't played it because I don't like rail shooters at all. But I know there are some ground segments that look fun. So I want to know, how much of the game is made up of that verses the air combat?

Also, how fun is the multiplayer? Does it get old fast?

Yeah, if Palutena gets in, that will be it I'm sure.

Well, it's a mixture of longterm and current relevance. Sure, Kid Icarus has only had three games, but ever since Pit's Brawl redesign it's been clear they want to make him a bigger character, and Uprising was really, really good.

For what's essentially a new series, it's already got most other Nintendo franchises beat when it comes to characters.

Really? Weird. Kid Icarus: Uprising had some phenomenal music though, so I can't see Sakurai regressing on the sound front... especially since Nintendo as a whole has been hitting it out of the park lately with their soundtracks (3D World, A Link Between Worlds, Tropical Freeze)

Joke post?

We've never seen those characters as normal sized, they were always massive when they appeared on screen as opposed to Palutena who would "project" a massive image of herself but was actually normal sized in scale during battle. Obviously the game states that gods can change their size whenever they want, but I'm not sure how successful transferring Medusa or Hades boss battles into fighting game movesets would work unless it was almost entirely original to Smash Bros.

Haven't you heard? Smash Bros will probably have baby music.

Probably wants to sure up all the support first.

KI also had the "many composers" thing and the only reasons I could imagine Nintendo skipping that stuff is 3DS cart size and maybe they don't want to spend too much money on the Wii U game.

If they can give Star Fox and Capt. Falcon a move set, I'm sure Hades and Medusa are workable.

Medusa's design, and especially voice, are really great, and I'd prefer her over Hades. Not that I don't like Hades, if I had total control over the roster, there'd be several Kid Icarus' reps, but i think Palutena's all we're gonna get.

One of the most successful Fire Emblem games ever and the most recent entry in the series that already has a stage in the game getting a character would not be too surprising.

Canadian Dollar is too weak.

I don't think Sakurai would really think about it in that sense.

He also has a unique playstyle.

I don't think you understand , FEA allows fire emblem to continue to exist. . Internalize that statement. Its continued existence hinged on that game.

in fact, if you account for global sales, Awakening is the most successful in the series by a fairly large margin

And according to recent Famitsu polls, he's still a fairly popular character despite PoR and RD not selling too well.
Ike has a giant sword. Even people who don't even play FE want to play Smash as Ike. Personally I want him to stay for his unique fighting style and also because he is my brothers main.

We're already guaranteed to get a decent amount of Galaxy 1/2 goodness thanks to the stage, but I'm really hoping the entire 3D World soundtrack gets included in the game.
If anything, this 8-bit remix of Double Cherry Pass absolutely must be included. MUST.
