EverQuest Next Landmark News and Info Thread | Build in Queue

They're time-limited closed beta keys. As per the FAQ:

I was considering something similar, since it would let me give keys to a few friends, but then saw that. Now I'm just going to go with the $20 buy in.

Thanks for the explanation. That's dumb.

Georgeson: "The world is a MILE deep currently. :)"

1 mile is 1600 meters... so 16 claims stacked on top of one another? That's pretty damn deep.

So let me see if I got this right

EQN: Landmark - a Minecraft-ish like experience using the toolset the devs are using to make EQN, but gamified a bit (like Minecraft) and if cool stuff comes about from community creations in this it could go on to be featured later on in EQN. When they say "plant your flag early" does that mean its all one 1 main soe server? Or are there other 3rd party servers too?

EQN: A proper mmo game using the same engine as landmark, and some of the community content, will EQN feature all the destruction of landmark (and it regenerates over time?).

Basically Landmark is a Triple A Minecraft like game, and EQN will take from it where needed, but not be as destroyable (permanently?) as Landmark continents are?

Pretty spot on with Landmark except there shouldn't be any "3rd party" servers. There may be more than one server when it's live but during alpha probably just one. When it's live there will likely be multiple servers but none of them 3rd party.

EQN proper will have everything that Landmark has but with the addition of Dev created quests and dynamically created events. Only lore accurate (time wise) community stuff from Landmark will make it into EQN and expect Landmark's systems to be more refined.

A hundred bucks, eh?

I wonder how popular this will be. How many people are getting the 100 dollar one anyway?

I got the 60 dollar one. I ALMOST bit and bought the 100 dollar one but then I remember being burned on the Champions online Lifetime sub, Star Trek lifetime sub, Matrix online life time sub too lol.

What I am cloudy on is the progression of EQN compared to landmark (as in the gameloop).

I'm guessing EQN is traditionally MMO gameloop but in a sandboxed environment as oppose to a wow themepark?

Oh yes, and supposedly through the magic of storybricks you can do some crazy shit like befriend NPCs, and NPCs will remember who you are when you do tasks for them, building up relationships and shit. It's crazy!

Follow https://twitter.com/EQNLandmark if you want a chance at a free founder pack.

It started already. They will be giving out codes all week. It will be nearly impossible to get one, I'd imagine.

Hey everyone! Looking for a Founder's Pack code? We're going to be posting codes for Settler, Explorer, and Trailblazer packs.

The codes are a one-time use, so whoever gets it first, gets the pack!

We'll be giving out codes here, but you should also watch for posts from @omeeddariani, @rosierap, @DaveGeorgeson, & @terryjmichaels!

Good god people are fast with those f'ing codes. I'd happily plunk down the money for the thing if I knew my PC could run it, but with the processor they listed for their min spec I'm concerned.

The way they're handling this founders pack giveaway is all kinds of BS. Codes literally gone in less then 5 seconds. They might has well just emailed people at random to make things more fair.

My bet is on 6 PM PST tomorrow for the release.

Won an Explorer's Pack from from the twitter keys they have been doing today.

Been trying for hours. Doing typing tests to improve my WPM. Felt like Desmond having to refresh the key input page every 3 minutes before it times out.

Protip: Tweetz Desktop widget updates a few seconds faster than the actual twitter website.

Smedley tweet: "well the press have left for the day and we'll see what they think soon here :) oh wow.. there's only one more day in January."

lol

Are these packs only available before alpha begins?

Pretty sure they will be available for it after too.

BTW I am 99% certain the alpha starts today or tomorrow morning.

Smedley just tweeted out "Remember folks is an Alpha, not a finished game"

So I hope everyone is ready for alpha today/tonight (or very early tomorrow!)

I almost feel like bailing out of a party tonight to play this when it opens, but sense will prevail. The servers will probably shit the bed out of the gate, anyway.

Alpha begins tonight for those with Trailblazer and Explorer packs.

CC: "Reporting in LIVE from San Diego is our Managing Editor Ann Hosler! Welcome, Ann, what's the word from Sony Online Entertainment?"

AH: "The EverQuest Next Landmark community event is currently underway and we are fortunate enough to be on-site. We'll give you a full report next week, but here's the breaking Landmark news: Alpha is anticipated to begin for Trailblazers and Explorers this evening! "

CC: "That's fantastic news! We can't wait to dive in. How can our viewers participate?"

AH: "You can purchase a Founder's Pack on the official site and tune in to the community event live stream at 4PM Pacific / 7PM Eastern!"

CC: "Excellent Ann, thanks for checking in!"

Heads up for anyone that purchases an Alpha pack today: "If you buy a pack today, you will likely not receive your e-mails until tomorrow. We will post instructions in the Alpha forums later."

In other works, you will have to go to the forums in order to find out how to download, etc.

I didn't even know there were Alpha forums. They probably should have sent an email about that :/

Yeah, I logged into the SOE site and found the forums. Just had no idea they even existed until your post. Apparently, they've been up since they started offering the packs.
