Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Has anyone considered the fact that Mega Evolution (at least as far as we know) isn't possible without a trainer? I wonder what this means for Lucario. Perhaps Korrina will appear during his Final Smash sequence.

Or maybe just Ri
d
ley.

Edit:

Hah! You posted this as I was typing! :D
These kind of arguments are silly since Sakurai tends to ignore other ganmes rules in favor of what makes a fun game. Almost everything about Lucario in Smash was made up not based on the games or anime.

Almost everyone could avoid it by just running to the side of the stage and jumping -> upb. If it had moved faster or the timer was a bit longer it would've been fine but in its current state it's trash

But the fun of it is predicting it. its not meant to get everyone if they're spread out. If two people are close together, aim at them. if they're all spread out, go for the one that has least /more damage, or if they're all clumped together, destroy them all at once.

it's more of a situational final smash, not a go crazy with it. It works and I like it.

According to Pokémon lore, it would be impossible for Lucario (and Mewtwo) to Mega Evolve in Smash Bros. since it requires a trainer with a Mega Ring. A wild Pokémon can't technically Mega Evolve.

I'm pretty sure Mewtwo can mega evolve in the anime by itself.

What? You could argue that he isn't absolutely strict at all times, but to say he "tends to ignore" game rules? Pretty much the exact opposite happens. Have you noticed, for example, how each and every Pokémon doesn't have more than four actual game moves (as in, properly named)?

Pikachu: Skull Bash, Quick Attack, Thunder, Volt Tackle
Jigglypuff: Rollout, Pound, Sing, Rest
Pichu: Skull Bash, Agility, Thunder (quite fittingly, only 3)
Mewtwo: Shadow Ball, Confusion, Teleport, Disable
Charizard: Flamethrower, Rock Smash, Fly, Fire Blast
Squirtle: Water Gun, Withdraw, Waterfall, Hydro Pump
Ivysaur: Bullet Seed, Razor Leaf, Vine Whip, SolarBeam
Lucario: Aura Sphere, Force Palm, ExtremeSpeed, Double Team

While, sure, there is often some rule-breaking (like Pokémon saying their names, or made-up moves like "Thunder Jolt"), it's obvious that Sakurai is well aware of the canonical context of each and every character move/feature in the game.

I'm pretty sure Mewtwo can mega evolve in the anime by itself.

Although the anime (and particularly M16) isn't the best source when it comes to mechanics, this is a fair point. Especially considering that in Melee, Mewtwo was mostly based on his anime counterpart.

In regards to the Melee cuts, it would be amazing to see Mewtwo back. It would also be great if Roy came back too. And Dr. Mario would be cool to have "OG" non-F.L.U.D.D. moveset Mario.

But Pichu can stay out. : and Toon Link IS Young Link so he can stay out too.

Isn't it technically impossible for lucario to exist because he needs to be friends with a trainer to evovle. Clearly smash doesn't give that of a shit.

That isn't true.

Agreed about Young Link. Especially now that we know Sakurai considers Link (at least Toon Link) to be a rough representation of several incarnations. I also don't see much appeal in Pichu's return either, unless it happened through in an Ice Climbers fashion -- Pichu Bros., (with Pikachu-coloured Pichu & Spikey Eared Pichu as alts!). Dr. Mario should just be a Mario alt, in my opinion.

But yeah, Mewtwo and Roy should return no matter what. #TeamNoCuts #TeamCutCharactersAreBack

Yeah I forgot about that actually! I'd be content with a Dr. Mario alt for Mario.

It made sense in Project M though because Mario doesn't have F.L.U.D.D. How would SSB4 handle it?

Would they have him keep F.L.U.D.D.? If I was Sakurai, I would reskin and recolor F.L.U.D.D. so it was a "liquid medicine dispenser" Like, color the water Green, and make it look like medical equipment. Hahah

Hate lucario. I'm gonna enjoy wrecking lucario with marth.
Hope chrom(or Gaius/tharja) and Captain Falcon makes it. it bothers me that lucario is included ahead of Captain falcon.

Saw this on Tumblr and thought it was cool.

Kinda wrong no to use 64's models =P

Also, I LOVE those ilustrations !
What I would not give for a 2D smash in those style

Lucario isn't ahead of Falcon, Lucario was just announced first. Considering 2/3 games Falcon was a hidden character why is anyone assuming we'll see him before launch?

Ike, Lucas, and Wolf fans are the only fans who should be freaking out that there character hasn't been revealed because of the remaining characters (ignoring snake) they're the most likely to be cut.

nor does anyone here WANT to talk about it anyway

I could have sworn that I was talking about a "Master Hand" mode and talked a bit about play styles I'd love to see happen in Smash within the last 2 or 3 days of this thread. :P

I also remember being someone asking for another mechanic breakdown in a PotD.

Bass, I don't think any of those characters are in danger for any reason. Ike is the west's Marth and has been pretty popular as an overall figure in Fire Emblem (mostly due to PoR and RD being two games featuring his saga), Lucas has the massively dedicated Mother fan base behind himself and is actually the character that would get in over Ness if Ness wasn't a grandfather'd veteran at this point, and Wolf is the best third man the Star Fox series could have and very different in play style from Fox and Falco even if he has some of their standard issue gear.

and of course, it was buried in CHARACTER TALK

It's rare I'll play smash with items let alone FFA's. I could see how it'd be more useful there with multiple opponents trying to force each other into it but if you are one on one it's almost useless.

Which is what the majority prefers to talk about. To say that no one wishes to discuss the gameplay mechanics is entirely incorrect as a minority still wishes to engage in such discussion. Everyday up until release does not have to pertain to character discussion necessarily. Because at the end of the day a majority is just speculation and at the core of all things in this product will remain a Sakurai decision.

did you think I literally meant "nobody" when I said that?
smh

as this thread makes clear time and time again, gameplay doesn't matter, as long as MY character makes it in

Yep, I'd love for the 3DS Smash to be like that. It would be much more interesting too, I love SSB, but having two very similar games at pretty much the same time on two different platforms isn't very interesting to me. I'm sure I'll play both, but I'd prefer if they were released further apart and with significant differences.

I'm here for my monthly, where is Solid Snake post.
Thus far from all of the replies I have pieced together his chances still sit at maybe.

Reasons
-Sakurai and Kojima from my knowledge are still friends
-Snake's brawl appearance didn't include a new game release thus his appearance in Smash might not need one.
-Snake Eater 3D came out so that's something
-His moveset is just too good to throw away.

That's all I got.

Rally hope he makes it back in. Loved him as the outsider character and he's what got me into Smash in the first place. I know other people as well who jumped into smash because of his inlusions. Not to mention other's who experienced his games for the first time because of his inclusion as well.

Also I don't want to hear any of that Nintendo History/Museum nonsense as to why he shouldn't be in this time.. Guys already been in Smash so that alone is enough at this point.
Sakurai is trying his best to bring back everyone from brawl so Ithink snake's chances have just raised with lucario than anything.

I rarely play with items on as well. But when my friends and I get together to play casually, it's really fun.

For one on one, it really depends. When I get the Smash Ball, I don't activate my Final Smash right away, I fight till I've gotten my opponent in a spot where it'll be useful.

Snake Eater 3D was released just as Sakurai started working on this game, so at the very least a Nintendo/Metal Gear connection was fresh in his mind as he put the roster together.

We'll probably get Mewtwo. Not so much Roy, though.
And honestly, it's for the best.

Mario has 5 reps, now. With that said, I'm almost certain Pokemon will, too. I don't think PKMN Trainer will return. At least, not withe Gen 1 Pokemon. And I'm certain Jiggly is a shoe in. OG status.

I find it reeeaaallllyy weird that several people now think that pokemon trainer of all characters will not return, its kinda disturbing how many people even have this in their mind.

Why?

I don''t think they will go with that many Gen 1 reps (other than Lucario). He's not a Smash staple, so they could easily swap him and/or his Pokemon out for 3 others, or not at all.
