Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I'm someone that prefers Melee's original compositions, such as Battlefield, Multi-Man Melee 1 & 2, Final Destination. 'Love Hirokazu Ando's work.

Considering Brawl's soundtrack was worked on by nearly 40 composers/arrangers, things are extremely varied;

Michiko Naruke (Wild Arms) with her Ocarina of Time Medley was fantastic.
Noriyuki Iwadare (Lunar/Growlanser) had Meta Knight's Revenge, which is one of my favourite tracks in all of Brawl.
Shogo Sakai (Mother 3) arranged Fire Emblem's Theme and a bloody ton else on Brawl, which are all good.

Credits. Easily one of the best songs in Smash history.

Then you have some other arrangements that I really feel were a missed opportunity. For an example; Motoi Sakuraba (Tales of) worked on quite a few arrangements, and while his own Golden Sun arrangement was fantastic, I really dislike what he did to Gourmet Race (seriously). Brawl's Star Wolf theme is nothing compared to Star Fox: Assault's orchestration (the difference is staggering to me).

...And how would brawl get music from a game that wouldn't even launch for 2+ years?

if Melee can get penalized for not having Kid Icarus music, then it's fair game
not to mention Brawl doesn't even have the superior Kid Icarus Uprising music either, so his point about Kid Icarus stuff is also Zero. Nada. Zip. Zilch. None.

Brawl's soundtrack was pretty great, I really liked the remixes of zelda tunes in that game also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2D8OpcEey4 ..soo good q.q

Melee had really good stuff too like the zelda 2 dungeon theme, and Mute city. but brawl's soundtrack as expected, was above and beyond melee's.

Sakurai <3 music, I really hope Tropical Freeze music is in Smash for wii u q.q

Brawl's OST wins just because of the breadth and variety of music both as remixes as well as being directly lifted from some games. However, I think if you look at just the original compositions (no remixes) then Melee blows Brawl out of the water.

Hmm...both have their pluses. Brawl has plenty of musical variety for everyone.

Melee has great original themes/remixes.(break the targets, lottery, metal battle, race to the finish, final destination's alternate theme, battlefield, fountain of dreams.)

Brawl destroys Melee in terms of quantity and quality of OST. Sure, their are some boring songs, but you can set it so you never have to listen to them.
The Zelda, Yoshi, and Kirby songs alone beat most of Melee's tracks.

Besides, most of the good Melee songs are in Brawl.

I'm also in the Melee OST > Brawl OST camp.

Don't get me wrong, I do really really really enjoy Brawl's OST. It's just, it's a little less cohesive than Melee's is, and has a few duds like the blatantly Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth MIDI "Song of Storms", questionable decisions like making "Seven Rings in Hand" Sonic's credits theme, and a few inferior remixes of Melee's songs ("Super Mario Bros. 3": Brawl version, Melee version; "Battlefield (Melee)": Brawl version, Melee version), which makes me prefer Melee just a little bit more overall.

I do think it's weird that there's been absolutely nothing about the soundtrack, especially considering that the soundtrack was the first thing Sakurai talked about with Brawl.

If they don't go the route of brawl's zillion remixes, they should just get the 6 or so composers that worked on Kid Icarus Uprising, and that should suffice.

If Shogo Sakai handles the soundtrack I'll be happy. Brawl's OST was amazing but it wouldn't disappoint me if they don't a massive one again (even though I expect them to do that!).

I wouldn't mind seeing some Ryo Nagamatsu works on this game. He did a spectacular job on the arrangements in A Link Between Worlds and Nintendo Land.

On the subject about Brawl's soundtrack. I think there's plenty of enjoyable remixes, but yeah there are some remixes that are just... terrible to say.

Also I'm probably in the minority that can't stand Brawl's theme song anymore. I liked it at first... but I didn't think it was anything special. I thought it was very unfitting to the series and sounded like it belonged to some RPG or something. Oh and I cannot stand how they remixed that song 20+ times and used it everywhere, the theme got real old real fast.

I mean I like Brawl's concept of having multiple songs per stage, but a lot of them don't feel like they really suit the stage. Some of those songs in Halberd's stage would suit the Melee Kirby stage better for example. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Brawl's OST or anything, it's rather good and enjoyable to listen to. It may have way more songs than Melee does but I think Melee's OST is better because for its consistency and that it has the better theme song. Quality over quantity.

If you have a problem with people liking Melee's OST more, then deal with it and man up ya big babies. Everyone has their own taste and preferences, if you like Brawl's OST then more power to you, nothin' wrong with that either.

EDIT: ALSO, bringing up Brawl having Melee's OST is cheating.

The only arrangements I was never crazy about were a couple of the Kirby tracks; in particular, I've never been able to make peace with the jazzy Revenge of Meta Knight arrangement (in the dojo update, Sakurai himself felt it was "incongruous" with the stage's aesthetic). Thankfully, Butter Building and The Legendary Air Machine make up for any missteps in that area. I also wasn't a fan of the Super Mario World castle arrangement.

Then you have Area 6 v.2, which is...holy shit, if there's anything in Brawl that deserves scathing criticism, it's that. I absolutely cannot imagine the conception of it, what with there ALREADY being an great arrangement of the song and then they, uh, decide to make another one that's...completely inferior and shitty on all levels? It made sense with DK Island Swing, but not here.

Really, I'd love for the OST to match Brawl's scope, but only if they keep it the quality across the board so we don't get anymore Area 6 v.2s.

Reminds me of the single funniest KO I've ever seen/been a part of in Brawl. I was playing the longest game of grab/drop with a Star Rod ever and on the last stock my friend had, I dropped said item directly on their head with a final smash stored up as Marth. The Star Rod made them slide the full length of the stage away and when they passed me I started the animation. My friend tried to roll forward but since he was technically considered standing because "lolBrawlmechanicsIdon'tget" he walked forward gaining no distance and tripped face forward into my Critical Hit.

The uneven distribution of music was another big gripe I had with Brawl.

So many good songs that were thrown on shitty stages.

It's exactly why I have to play Project Mahvel or mod brawl so I can switch up the music.

I hope we have full reign over music this time, like we can actually make playlists with the ingame music for specific stages that we like.

You could just slot in some of those Sonic & Mario remixes unaltered and I wouldn't complain, basically what I'm saying is SSB4 needs Bowser's Galaxy Funk Generator.
But yes they should get Sega on board for some music as well if at all possible.

Mother and DK getting royally screwed here, I had to make some simple stage builder stages to smash away to Mother 3 Love theme and Gangplank Galleon without the grief of New Pork City and Rumble Falls.

The above linkings to Sonic Unleashed music just made me realize I really hope SEGA Sound Team do some music for this game. Brawl had a lot of different composers from all over the industry, and with SEGA and Nintendo being so close, it would be interesting.

I'd love to hear their take on more Nintendo themes.

Poor mobile GAF

What is Mahvel.. I've seen people begging on a stream for someone to play it.. I have no idea what it is.

Marvel VS Capcom.
