Best endings to game?

999 had the most gripping finale imaginable. Just perfect, in every way, especially in terms of the hardware. ONLY the DS can do something like that.

Darksiders. The way
you see the other three horsemen coming to join War, I swear that shit was epiccc
. Every time I see it, goosebumps guaranteed!

Persona 3. Boss battle, among other things. Hardly the hardest boss battle, but the pacing and presentation is perfect for a final boss. Also, the boss music.

Special Mention: Escape Velocity Nova. Actually succeeded in the multiple ending game, your choice of faction, and choices within that faction, led to complete different final battles, end results, post-game results, etc. Not to mention the Vellos ending was absolutely vicious. Taking on multiple absolutely massive fleets with a vellos ship with paper thin armor was epic.

Revengeance. Because of this.

999
Shattered Memories
Deadly Premonition
Metal Gear Rising

Some games where my mind blew up at the pure awesomeness.

Hitman Blood Money!
I love the fake out credits and rising from the grave with silver ballers in hand.

I liked the ending but I disliked that I wasn't given the option to speak to Darcy.

It was pretty lame that you didn't even get to see him in that section. He was a great antagonist.

Terranigma

Grisaia no Kajitsu - Michiru, Sachi and Yumiko routes.

Secret of Evermore

Borderlands 2

Katawa Shoujo - All routes.

Call of Duty 4

The Witcher is the first one that comes to mind for me. 6 years later and some people still don't get the ending. Not cause it was confusing, but because they had some respect for the audience and didn't spoon feed them everything. But some people desperately want to be spoon fed.

This is why I always pick The Witcher 1 for any thread that asks for the best ending. It completely changes the way you view the game once you've reached the end of the journey. And the fact that they make it so subtle shows that they trust gamers to figure it out. I haven't seen games do that at all recently.

really? That was one of the shortest, most abrupt ending ever, and I didn't even understand what was going on or the significance of it until reading up explanations online.

Afterwards i kindof liked what they did, but still I'd hardly call it one of the best endings ever. especially after a 60 hour struggle

I liked it mostly because of the ambiguity of the ending, it felt like a fitting end to the story.

that, and the delivery of the final line. So goddamn epic.

infamous doesn't have the best ending of all time IMO but it's one of the few games I've played where a twist is foreshadowed the entire game without becoming totally obvious - and it pays off superbly as a result

It totally blew my mind. I never noticed any of the hints on my first playthrough, it took me two more (to get the Platinum trophy) to notice all of them.

inFAMOUS 2 also has two amazing endings. I shouldn't have played the Good ending before the Evil one, because I teared up at the Evil ending even more than I did the Good.

I love the ending to Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War as well. The music coupled with the final battle with Grabacr and Ofnir Squadrons really made it amazing.

Red Dead Redemption too. I don't really need to explain this one.

The race against time in Mass Effect 1 and the Suicide Mission in Mass effect 2 were endings I'll never forget.

Gears of War 3 had a good ending in the sense that it actually felt like the series was wrapped up and not left open-ended for more sequels like most series these days.

The Walking Dead Season 1 for those feels.

I thoroughly enjoyed the TLOU and all of the Uncharted game endings myself. I'll be getting The Wonderful 101 with my Newegg bundle next week, so you guys are getting me excited about that one now.

Hitman Blood Money!
I love the fake out credits and rising from the grave with silver ballers in hand.
Good choice.

Also agree with Red dead redemption, Infamous, MGS 3, Journey, Brothers, The walking dead-first season.

I would like to add two games to those:

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - The whole story was told in a unique fashion, and the ending just made so much better. It's just a great way to finish such an epic adventure.
Kakolukia

Okami - I just remember the ending being really damn charming for some reason.

Beyond had a super satisfying ending. Had a smile on my face all day. Great final chapter in general and it's pretty rare that the final part of a game is also my favourite one.

Also Twilight Princess. Perfect boss fight and credits.

My favorites would have to be

Mass Effect - That ending few hours was amazing, and the credits song... Perfect.

What a goddamn incredible song. Turned right into one of my all time favorites after I finished the game for the first time all those years ago.

It was such a perfect combination of an awesome ending to a truly great game and a properly fantastic song. I really wanted to hear it in ME2 and ME3 too.

Love the Mass Effect ending, such an epic build up,
battling your way across the Citadel to the Saren showdown
! Sooo good. Mass 2 was such a letdown in comparison. I haven't even finished ME3...

The first Dead Space is incredibly similar in this regard. It's evident on a second playthrough that the game drops so many obvious hints at the twist(hell, it even literally spells it out), but you're still not expecting it.

I really enjoyed DS1's ending as well. DS2's was pretty good as well, the
wot from Ellie was the icing on the cake
. Then there is DS3 where you had to buy DLC to get the full ending, and no shout out to DS1 and DS2 endings either. For shame Visceral, for shame.

Hmm... My favorites would be:

Bioshock Infinite
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy X
Metal Gear Solid 3
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Crisis Core

All of them are some of my favorites for different reasons. Bioshock Infinite for the "wow"/"shock" factor as well as the perfect execution. FFIX because it was both a sad and happy ending at the same time - plus, it was pretty long. Both MGS3 and FFX had fairly emotional and memorable endings. Twilight Princess had an amazingly epic final dungeon (in terms of atmosphere, anyways) and boss fight(s). And the ending was pretty satisfying and touching, too. Crisis Core was just depressing... But I'm a sucker for sad endings. :P

The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker

I liked the final battle more than the ending..
However...

Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Satisfying. A good twist, a great fight, the triforce is shown, a wish is made. I like it because it's happy and pretty fulfilling as far as Zelda titles go. Count me as someone who had never even guessed Ravio was your alternative.... that should have been obvious, right?

Ghost Trick
All loose ends wrapped up so nicely. Cecil the cat and Missle the dog's story conclude in a beautiful way
. One of the most underrated games ever.

Limbo
All noise, noise, TIME THAT LAST GODDAMN JUMP...!!!
Then silence...
Then flies.

999
VLR plays-up too much that there's a sequel what with all the unanswered questions. So I liked how this game fucks with you for the last 5 hours of deep dark spoilers and gives you a pretty happy ending...which is nice, because all the other endings feature death, silence, or sadness trying to earn it

Final Fantasy IX
It might have been "more meaningful" if Zidane died in his heroic last moments with his brother... but I'm glad he came back for a "grand finale" -- using a stage no less to pull it off.

999 is where it's at.
Also, XIII-2 was unexpected enough to be awesome.

1. P4G - Golden Epilogue is just perfect.
2. Valkyria Chronicles -
Such a heartwarming scene at the end when you see Welkin, Alicia and their daughter.
3. The Wonderful 101 -
Mash A to Defend Earth
4. Phoenix Wright 3 -
Super objection

Honorable Mentions:
Pikmin 3 - Those credits
Catherine -
True Love and True Freedom Endings
Bioshock Infinite
The Last of Us
Red Dead Redemption
Gears of War 3 - Felt it capped off the trilogy well.
Pretty much every Fire Emblem game (Except Shadow Dragon)

I liked it mostly because of the ambiguity of the ending, it felt like a fitting end to the story.

that, and the delivery of the final line. So goddamn epic.

No....... not alone
. Shiiiiit!

Please Nordic Games, flatter Crytek USA. I need a DS3 :(

Terranigma

It helps that this music plays

Its like a roller coaster of feels

-Portal 2
-Persona 4 (and Golden's
new epilogue
)
-Earthbound
-Mother 3
-Wind Waker
-Bully
-Sly 2: Band of Thieves

The fact 999 wasn't even close to being first post is perfect proof that it needs even more LTTP-threads to remind people to play it. I say we just get a random Gaffer to play and write about it for every day of 2014, that's at least 365 more people to hype it up! :D

Seriously though, it's really good.

- 999 amazing game in every way
-Witcher 2 just sets up Witcher 3 so perfectly. I can't wait to
experience the northern invasion by Nilfgaard.
-Fallout 1 such a bitter ending but I understood the Overseer's reasoning

ME 1 and 2 just had amazing ending I think, the final missions were amazing easily the best parts of both games.
The Walking Dead and RDR
had really sad but great endings too
