Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I decided to do the list for characters' reveal dates, so we could see the patterns which I seriously doubt other than Yoshi and Zelda/Sheik. Apparently, Yoshi is always to be last 64 veteran to be revealed, and Zelda/Sheik is always to be last Melee veteran to be reveal in term of starter characters.

A Microsoft Smash could be interesting depending on how it was handled.

I would like a Microsoft More Normative fighting game at this point, after KI, i can trust them with a fighting game.

Just make sure its full package and has more than 6 flipping characters.

This is just me but, if I were given the chance to make an Xbox crossover game. Here's how I'd handle it.

- Small roster about the size of the original Smash Brothers
- Doubtful on third parties. Maybe one or two that's stuck with Microsoft from the beginning.
- Not make it a fighting game. Third person action/arena game in the vein of Anarchy Reigns, hire Platinum to make it.

Something like this. Perhaps you could incorporate some capture the flag game mode too. That'd be creative.

I hope we have full reign over music this time, like we can actually make playlists with the ingame music for specific stages that we like.

They just need a better stage builder. I don't like the idea of mixing elements of the franchises like that. It would hurt the identity of the stages.

Guess tonight's gonna be another Lucario pic, but I'd love to see a new Pokemon level...

Wondering what they're gonna do for the Wii U Stage since Pokemon is mainly hand held; a generic Pokemon Stadium 3? Or maybe the little theme park from PBR, or something from Pikachu's PokePark?

I can definitely see pokemon stadium 3 being a stage possibility! With more stage transformations and even more hidden pictures of sakurai's cat

Mother and DK getting royally screwed here, I had to make some simple stage builder stages to smash away to Mother 3 Love theme and Gangplank Galleon without the grief of New Pork City and Rumble Falls.
I never liked how Brawl just threw seemingly random themed levels around. Like "Ice Climber Mountain" was just roughly themed to Ice Climbers, but wasn't really specific to their game or anything. Would it have killed them to make Mario Kart some figure 8 map from a specific game instead of a generic nameless track? Melee was guilty of this to some extent too (hello Pokefloats), but not as blatant as Brawl was.

I mean, look at Fox's level, just flying around some unnamed ship that was never in Star Fox around sort of space themed areas? That's not a star fox level at all...

We needed more Norfair, Spear Pillar, Luigi's Mansion, etc. Specific locations from games that are identifiable and not just "random space level, this is star fox!"

Melee's full starting roster was revealed at E3 2001, it's just that their profiles went up on the official site at different dates.

There's not really anything to do for Ice Climber's though, I mean the original game just consisted of a weird multi-color block mountain, and Melee already did the "re-imagined" version of that. The only other choice would be to do a retro-stage where it's just the actual NES level. Personally I hope the new Ice Climber's level is a cool "Christmas" themed level or something.

Also, I'm pretty sure the Mario Kart Level IS Mario Circuit, the figure 8 course.

You're right, and I'm aware of that. We could say same thing for Brawl's E3 trailer. I want to point out the dates, so I assume that if we are getting closer to release date. They probably would release few characters per month to hyping up Smash Wii U and 3DS.

Brawl sort of experimented with the idea by including the Balloon Fight fish in the Ice Climber stage, but I think they’re going to take that a step further this time around. There’s not much else that can be done with an Ice Climber stage that isn’t a retread. I think we might get an all-encompassing “NES Classics” stage that transitions between a handful of retro games.

I never really thought of how many of those stages in Brawl were "generic" themed locations.

The StarFox one is the one I did clock though, and what annoys me most is the strange ship you're riding on which has no significance or relation to the series at all. Would it have hurt them to make it a modified version of the Great Fox at least?

I understand why Lylat Cruise wasn't taking place on it, since, y'know, every other Star Fox stage up to that point took place on the Great Fox, both from Melee and 64. Heck, you actually do get one of them with one of the Melee stages in Brawl. Aside from the fact that the Great Fox would not have lent itself to stage the layout the Lylat Cruise ship has.

You still have plenty of Star Fox elements on the Lylat Cruise ship, but that's all in the background - you fly through Meteo, Corneria, the faceoff between the Cornerian and Andross' fleets from Assault, etc.

I don't think most of the stages in Brawl could be described as "generic", though - except for the Pokemon Stadium series, the Ice Climbers stage and the Smash-specific stages (FD, Battlefield, Smashville), all of the stages take place in specific locations that are related to the respective series or game they are from, or - in case of for instance Lylat Cruise - have heavy involvement of the series in the background.

Did Luigi suddenly not appear in 64 or something?

Yoshi is always to be last 64 veteran to be revealed, and Zelda/Sheik is always to be last Melee veteran to be reveal in term of starter characters.

Look at Ness and Captain Falcon. They uploaded Ness and Cap Falcon way before Yoshi for Melee "Dojo"

Dayum, the 23 starting characters including transformations plus Snake and Sonic were revealed within the 9 months between its E3 unveil and its Japanese release.

Smash 4 is already at 22 characters including Mega Man and Sonic within the 9 months since E3 and now. I expect at least 4-6 more characters for the starting roster and with the slightly faster rate they're going, SMASH 4 WILL GET A SURPRISE LATE APRIL RELEASE, GUYS.

While on the topic of Yoshi, do any of you guys actually like to play as him? He's one of the only characters that I nearly never enjoy using.

He looks like a lot of fun in upper level play, but as a casual "I play with friends" guy he's pretty meh. I've always wanted to like him, though it doesn't help that his design gets worse in every game thus far.

He's a character with a lot of unique tools that requires dedication and a different style of play compared to most other fighters.

So I really appreciate Yoshi in that regard, but I'm not too effective with him...

I wonder how many people realized that Kirby actually wear Young Zelda's hat instead of Adult Zelda's hat?

I knew immediately. I couldn't call myself a Zelda fan if I hadn't realized it. I think Young Zelda is the cutest Zelda partly because of her headdress.

It's because we don't know how to use him. Tiers come out and then some magical genius mains in a seemingly trash character and makes them really really good.

Look at Jigglypuff, Peach, Ice Climbers, and maybe even upcoming Yoshi.

Those characters were considered "sub-par" in the meta but became damn good once people found out how to use them.

The only characters you can truly call trash is like Pichu, who the fuck made a character who HURTS them self? Some S&M, sadist/masochist stuff there.

I followed your advice and I ended up getting that $300 Wii U bundle.

Wii U Deluxe and 3DS XL complete with:

Nope Wind Waker/Spirit Tracks/Toon Zelda will always be the cutest Zelda. To be honest, I prefer the Cell Shaded Toon designs over the other Legend of Zelda iterations. I really hope the next Zelda game follows a paintbrush art style like Okami, that would be fucking beautiful.

I main Yoshi even though I'm not a competitive a player at all. Still, Yoshi has some good moves like Up Air and the dashing headbutt. Most of his smash attacks are also pretty strong. Only move I never use is the tongue special...

The Melee Dojo site is so much more indepth than the Brawl one. It basically tells you everything from unlocking characters and stages, little easters eggs and every single trophy!

I understand why Sakurai doesn't want to focus on the site while simultaneously working on the game this time around, but hopefully when development's in its final stages Sakurai will start putting up some articles.
