"A size comparison of Lucario's standard special attack, Aura Sphere, in its weakest and strongest states. The attack is faster and more powerful when the Aura Sphere is bigger."
I audibly said "WOW!"

So when Lucario has soaked up some damage and his aura is strong, he can charge up an Aura Sphere bigger than Bowser, and launch it faster.

That... has potential!

The complete upgrade to Lucario is great, I looked back at him in Brawl and he has a sort of semi-realistic look going on in Brawl but in this Smash he looks anime as heck.

Yeah, testing now. Even a fully charged Aura Sphere in Brawl is closer to the top image compared to that giant, Project M-esque Aura Sphere.

So between the "drastically" more powerful Charge Shot and now this. Sakurai is really buffing up projectiles, huh?

EDIT: maybe not.

Japanese Miiverse got an extra comment:

In addition, it becomes the notation "wave" in the "Pokemon" This volume, but take the agreed notation "-wave" in the movie as "Smash Bros.".

Translated by Google. I'm lost.

That is a really big Aura Sphere! I wonder how fast it gets when Lucario's at maximum Aura? This Aura buff might be the most insane comeback mechanic to grace Smash Bros. yet.

Also, notice how the weakest Aura Sphere still appears to go completely straight. In Brawl it teetered up and down ala Mewtwo's Shadow Ball... but if they've taken that element out it would only serve to make the two Pokemon even less similar than they already were. Just food for thought.

Pikachu also looks different compared to his newer Smash 4 counterpart. They both now more resemble how they look in their games.

Clearly he's saying that...umm...yeah I got nothing.

Well-said. I'm really digging Lucario this time around, whereas in Brawl I was indifferent.

Pokémon XY also helped me to appreciate him more, due to his role in the story.

Mewtwo's Shadow Ball will fill the entire screen.

Not really, the late pics never have anything that is specifically exciting. :p

Actually for a good 3 or so months the late pics almost always had something good, after that it dropped dramatically making us anticipate that something good would come out if its late but it turns out to be really nothing, with that said, today's pic goes against that.

What is Sakurai is trolling and Lucario's Aura Sphere can now only be done by doing Quarter Circle+B (Charge).

I guess that means Lucario won't get a super meter or a spirit bomb like he does in Project Mahvel.

One thing I really want in the new smash bros is a "Crew Battle Mode" to make crew battles a lot easier.

You choose team sizes, and each person chooses a character or something, then at the end of each battle you switch to the next person in the crew battle.

Has to do with the different names of the attack between the games and the movie in Japan, I think.

the Japanese comment btw

きょうの一枚。 ルカリオの最大ため時のはどうだん、波導最小の場合と最大の場合の大きさ比較。 大きさだけでなく、威力も速度も強まっています。

Oh, lemme translate this...

"Roses are red... Violets are blue... Ridley is big... Hong Kong Phooey."

smh, Japanese

The next screenshot will be Lucario firing his Aura Sphere and Mewtwo firing his Shadow Ball and the two balls* colliding in the middle of the screen, DBZ-style.

* Don't be perverted.

Mewtwo's Shadow Ball is still cooler to me, dammit! It makes you fly across the screen, for one.

Plus, you don't need to be on the verge of death, 3 stocks behind with your opponent laughing at your face for it to be powerful.

Honestly though, Lucario is looking like a far more dangerous opponent in a team battle situation compared to how amazing he already was in teams anyway.

This is such a great example of taking an existing character and helping them realize their potential as something unique both in gameplay and personality/presence.

Lucario looks and feels way more stylish now, with colors that pop in the new visual style and expressive facial animations that give him a great deal more character.

And now his whole "aura" comeback mechanic is being recalibrated so that the difference is as clear as night and day, with an Aura Sphere that at max power literally dwarfs Bowser in size, and apparently has higher speed.

I'm digging it. It's gold, Jerry!

I think for an entire generational gap of Smash games Mewtwo's gonna have some moveset changes. His playstyle in Melee probably wouldn't translate well in this slightly-faster Brawlish Smash they're making.

I'm guessing Sakurai wants it to be abundantly clear there's an increase in attack power as Lucario takes damage. Visually, and mechanically. All part of making Lucario feel one-of-a-kind on the roster -- something that creative types like Sakurai crave. Exciting!
