Kingdom Come - Realistic open-world Medieval RPG [Kickstarter]

There are very, very few RPG games with coop, unfortunately.

I still dont understand for example why Skyrim does not have coop, it would be so great addition. I really hope that next Elder Scrolls and Mass Effect will have coop implemented.
I don't. Coop means taking developers away from implementing a great single player game to focus on netcode. I understand why this is a feature some people want, but unless a game is specifically designed with coop in mind (like Divinity: Original Sin) I'd rather leave that whole paradigm to MMOs, MUDs, and pen and paper RPGs.

Ah true, fair enough.

Still though, it takes a lot of time and budget to implement it well.

I finally started playing Skyrim recently and am now 60 hours in. After the first 10 hours or so I could not get the idea out of my mind that Skyrim would have been ideal for coop and multiplayer RPG bliss.

While I don't think every game needs multiplayer and I loves me an immersive single player experience, I can't wait for the first game like Skyrim or Kingdom Come to include this function.

CryEngine has default netcode implemented already, its basically just about enabling it and tweaking spawn mechanics and maybe enemy AI.
Also network programmers do not design gameplay, do not create textures or models or make animations. Its a different person with different role.
And examples i gave already have gameplay focused around party, Skyrim has companions, Mass Effect has squad members.

Video interview with Dan Vávra on a German gaming site. In English.

http://www.gameswelt.tv/kingdom-come-deliverance/studio-talk-mit-daniel-vavra,38215

Right now, Warhorse is using the same version of CryEngine that Ryse did.

Wow, english of that german presenter is outstanding.

They showed some new footage, looks great.

Like KKRT00 said. As an example : http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=741172 out of the 40 rpg which should be released in 2014 listed there, only 6 has coop ( and that's including a diablo-like like grim dawn ); and out of those 6 only two ( dark souls 2 included, where the MP mecanics doesn't even allow you to easily do a full coop run of the game ) are an open world.
And when it comes to a game of the scope of elder scroll or Kingdom Come, they are so few of them in itself, that coop game of that kind are pretty much inexistant.

While I don't think every game needs multiplayer and I loves me an immersive single player experience, I can't wait for the first game like Skyrim or Kingdom Come to include this function.
Same here.

There has been quite some anti-coop opinion ( since RE5 I would say ), where people fear that including coop mean making the solo worst than it would be if coop wasn't there.
But it's really not something which has to happen when a game get coop, rpg or not it can be as simple as the coop you can see in some fps etc where the second player isn't even included in the story, and the balance of the game isn't made with coop in mind ( even if the best scenario is still to get an higher difficulty when in coop ).

Well, they moved on the the Ryse version of Cryengine according to the interview @ gamewelt.

This game will look even more spectacular now with PBR :D

Rate of backing has slowed down a bit but it definitely looks like we're eventually going to get the option to play as a lady in the beginning of the game.

I personally dont care about funding rate at this point, because if it would slowed down more, it pretty certain that we will get performance capture stretch goal :)

This is closely following most of the relatively high interest properties -- relatively strong start, then it'll plateau for the middle 20 days, and then the last few days will bring in close to the same amount as they brought in the first few days.

In short, I'd be rather surprised if they didn't exceed the mocap goal.

Asked warhorse about native support of the DS4 on the PC they replied...

"Native support of PS4 and XboxOne controller is something that Sony and/or Microsoft must approve first. If they don't do that, we won't be able to support it natively. But we plan to support as many controllers as possible for PC."

Interests me as I plan on getting the rift and having a controller with a touchpad (mouse) would be nice I think. Anyone else interested in this?

Update #8

New digital tier!

By popular demand we have added a digital equivalent of the special edition, the Viscount tier. With this tier you can get certain unique digital goodies: some of them stand in for their physical counterparts in the physical special edition: high resolution uncompressed image file with our poster, a PDF version of the Art book and 3D model of the Action figure for 3D printers.

Two digital rewards in this tier have no counterparts in the current physical editions: high-res map of the game world and PDF screenplay – a hundreds of pages long document that will have been used to record all dialogues in Act I.

We think that these two things could be valuable to other backers as well, so we shall be adding them to all tiers from Earl upwards. Kickstarter does not (for obvious reasons) allow the project creators to alter the description of rewards once somebody pledges for it, so we won't be able to update the tiers descriptions. The image that visualizes tiers and rewards should have the correct information though.

Console versions for Soldiers and Knights

We have been able to clarify with Microsoft the situation regarding the distribution of the Xbox One version of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. We can now confirm that the digital version of the game on Xbox One platform will be available to the backers on the Soldier and Knight tiers. This is a – positive we hope – change from our previous update (#6). The summary of platforms and licenses now looks this way:

Soldier, Knight: 1 license, digital copy (Win/Mac/Linux/Xone) OR physical copy (Win/Mac/Linux)

Baron, Viscount, Earl: 1 license, digital copy AND physical copy (Win/Mac/Linux/Xone/PS4)

Duke and all higher tiers: 2 licenses, 2 digital copies AND 1 physical copy (Win/Mac/Linux/Xone/PS4)

NB: We will do everything in our powers to bring our game to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and release them at the same time as on the open platforms, but as this process is controlled by the platform holders (Sony and Microsoft), we cannot guarantee it.

Next update

We plan to release next video update on Monday, so be sure to check back! This time we are going to speak about character customization, NPC creation and overall about how our cloth layers work.

First person medieval single player game? Mount and Blade like combat? An actual campaign?!

40 freedom bucks dropped for alpha access, this looks great.

This is easily one of the most ambitious games I've seen in a long time and while that creates a lot of skepticism I am glad someone's taking a shot. Gaming has become far too safe and boring quite frankly and that's because no one caters to the actual players anymore. That being said I'm constantly debating with myself over whether I want to support this or not. The main reason I'm hesitant is because I'm strongly against episodic RPGs. I'm not really a fan of episodic anything but RPGs in my opinion are the last genre that should have its story or gameplay split into pieces. I really need to have the whole thing at once, that's also why I avoid the early access releases of games like Wasteland 2 and Dead State but I also don't want to wait months after the release of Act 1 to buy the whole package and try to dodge everyone talking about it and posting screens or videos about it, tempting me on a daily basis. It's a tough call really, but I'm extremely glad it was funded.

Well Act 1 is apparently 30+ hours of (story?) content so it's not like a 2-3 hour episode like a lot of episodic games. But I get what you are saying.

I've said it before but I'll reiterate, just the simple change of calling it "The first of a trilogy" rather than "Act 1" would have made quite a lot of difference. Almost the same meaning, but the impact is so very different.

Just read the stuff on KS page about acts and all your worries will be dealt with. I don't see any issue, there.

I'm not saying anything about the reality of it, I'm just saying the messaging is completely different. As is the first impression created.

Act I implies it's incomplete.

First of a Trilogy implies that the game is complete in and of itself. Self contained.

Backer forums are up now.

Update #9
Forums are open!

One of the things we have promised to our backers is access to our forums. We are now ready to announce that the forums are open and invite you there.

Before we do, there are some things we would like to say: and I am sorry if this is going to be a bit technical.

Kickstarter – for obvious and very sensible reasons – does not share your email addresses with us until after the end of the campaign. For this reason we are only able to contact you by Kickstarter’s own messaging system. On the other hand we want you to have the right forum badge now, so we need a way of matching you to your pledge. We do this by sending you a unique code that you enter when creating your forum account.

Taken together this means we need to send a unique message to every backer via Kickstarter internal message system. This is going to be a slow process. We are asking you for patience, we think that all current backers should receive a message from us within next 48 hours.

The accounts that were not authenticated by the code have read-only access to forums anyway, so you will gain nothing by registering early. If you haven't entered your code during registration, you can always do it after, by editing your user preferences.

We hope you are going to like our forums and we shall be able to get into some real discussion about Kingdom Come: Deliverance. See you there!

Very impressive indeed.

It always makes me extremely happy to see solid tech employed to make building varied and great-looking games (particularly RPGs) easier.

Layers of clothing seems great. Also, finally someone used procedural decals from Crysis 2 on clothing, i was wondering when will this happen. Seemed like no-brainer at the time, when they showed it in tech demo on walls.

----------
Also, they forgot to turn off default SDK Chromatic Aberration setting in the last piece in the video xD
If You wonder how awfully this would look like with CA enabled, now You have a chance :P

Wow, very impressive. Dirty clothes that need to be cleaned, LMAO.... I don't know whether to think that's awesome or annoying. I want to explore the land and steal from nobles or fight bandits, not sure I wanna spend time doing laundry. xD Still, the idea is neat, if NPCs react to you differently if you're dirty and/or bloodied or not. You'd have to clean up before trying to be socially acceptable and convince people to help you or whatnot. Has anything like this ever been done before?

Did I see sunburn? lol
I can see it now; if you make a redhead character, you are more vulnerable to sunlight, and even take slight damage when under the sun for too long! >_>

...This would be Kojima-level of attention to detail, haha.

Being able to grab clothes from dead bodies, would that mean only specific components like other RPGs or the whole outfit and then be able to pick and choose?
I'm guessing it's all split into specific components but you could surely loot the whole set and leave a naked body, hah.

Matter of taste I guess. It's simulating a type of distortion common in digital video/photos. I believe it's built in or even "default" in CryEngine, which might be why it's so common.

Ah, did not know that. I'm fine and quite like it in games that are trying to recreate the digital camera feel. Daylight. Routine. Kane and Lynch 2. Are there any egregious examples where people are unanimous in not liking the use of it?

Yeah, default value for SDK is 1.5, same as in Crysis 3. While i can understand Crysis 3 defaulting it on 1.5, dont ask me why its in SDK.

Well, I don't like it in anything which is first person, that is, has you looking through the eyes of someone and not a camera. Particularly in a medieval setting it seems very silly.

latest update looked really sweet. Though I am sure I am not the only one who noticed that none of the heads fit the body (as in the actual polygons around the neck do not connect and there are holes), but that will be fixed anyways.

The blood/dirt looks nice, probably using CryEngine's blendlayers.

I just registered for their forums but now I can't log in

It asks for a login and a password. What is the login supposed to be? Your user name, the code they sent, email address or your name that you registered with?
