Game Informer played through MGS Ground Zeroes' main mission in [1.5hrs, not rushing]

That has to be just the amount of time they had to try it out, can't be 4 hours long...that would be fucking ridiculous lmfao.

Yeah, this is not OK. Even worse is that Australian retailers apparently never got the $40 message, because this is being sold as a full-price game here.

Luckily, Koji Pro's been kind enough to basically show us the entire game in the trailers and gameplay footage so far. Anyone who's been following along pretty much knows the entire story of GZ, barring some kind of MGS2-style switcheroo. I don't want to write it off completely, because Metal Gear games are so rarely short on content, but I'll wait for Metal Gear Gaf's impressions on this one. If they go down the Peace Walker route of pretending to have side missions but really just making you play the same level over and over with different rulesets I think I'll be happy to wait for a price drop.

That is pretty much what it sounds like. I remember someone made a photoshop image of the original quote as if it was a ransom letter (lol). That is exactly how I saw it as well. Konami are pretty much holding Phantom Pain hostage.

Found it

Most people complaining about the $40 price are probably people that wouldn't buy the game day 1 anyway. If I see it for $15-$20 I'll probably pick it up, but I don't buy games at full price anymore, even if I'm interested in the series since I don't trade or resell my games (they just get added to my backlog...).

If there's really an issue about price, buy it beat trade it in or just rent it. That's the price Konami is charging. Either buy it or don't.

Slowly but surely all franchises from my gaming youth are being killed.

It is pricey but I certainly dont feel as you do. Pretty optimistic about MGSV actually and it remains my most anticipated game. When they first showed the camp walkthrough with the xray vision and slowmo that definitely disturbed me, but after Rising and that recent streaming marathon Im more pumped than ever for the series. Will buy digitally on ps4.

Yeah right there are a lot of metal gear fans here not buying it cos of this including me. I'd have bought it day 1 if they weren't taking the piss here.

I think it's already pretty clear that is the case.

I don't see your point.

Everyone in this thread seems to be focused solely on the fact that this game is potentially 4 hours long, so I compared it to a 5hr game+1hr demo that was sold for 10 dollars more in 2001 that people are fine with. This is about the playtime, not the fact that it's a prologue.

And I'd rather pay $40 now for a taste of MGSV than have to wait another year at least for it to be released.

you're paying money for a starter of another bigger game. that's not the same as buying a game that's bundled with a demo. if you want the full mgs 5 experience that's $100 mgs 2 was still $50, you didn't need to buy ZOE.

And don't bring up the argument that people bought ZOE for just the demo like, whilst true this happened that's a moronic thing to do, and hardly a good foundation to justify a practice like this.

if you can't see the difference I can't help you.

Wow! Glad the digital Xbox One version is "only" $30.00! 4 hours is pretty short.

I shouldn't buy this but I was a Xbox 360 owner and never played MGS4, so I've been dieing for almost a decade since the last mainline MGS game. Can't believe it's been more than 9 years since MGS3!

Good thing I've got plenty of Bing Rewards points built up...

Really hope there is a lot of replayability, easter eggs, and fun details to play with (ala MGS2 Demo) otherwise I dont like the idea of paying full price for this.

so like i predicted its about as long/a little bit longer than the Tanker from MGS2....
The Tanker mission was like 30 mins long. GZ would be the longest prologue in any game or movie. That's a plus right here.

You can compare content value.
Your logic then applies to almost every other game out there that is priced at a higher price which is 60$ + TAX. Why pay for a 60$ game then?

I don't mind if those are a great 4 hours. MGS 4 was like 20 hours and most of it was garbage.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves with that MGS4 comment.

The most disappointing thing for people is that Konami presents Ground Zeroes as some kind of small MGS-standalone title. Even though people often enough bought full priced games in order to play a highly anticipated demo (which probably contains less than an hour of gameplay). It's all about how you present these products. The name of the game doesn't imply that it's basically a big demo. How about MGS: Prologue?
Personally, I can't wait to play this title and that's why I'm going to spend 40€ on this.
I found out that a games price doesn't determine content and lenght... it's the only explanation why I spend about 500€ on the Mass Effect trilogy. Didn't find the value in my game boxes, btw - it was rather hidden in the depths of Tali's butt, I think.

So don't buy games with countervalue in mind. That's just wrong.
This.

Didn't MGS4 have about four hours of gameplay, with sixteen hours of cutscenes? Par for the course I think.
Wrong. MGS4 had roughly 9 hours cutscenes in total including codec calls and mission briefings. The game was no where near the 4 hours long on the first playthrough. Get your facts straight.

I've never once thought this would be a very long game, I'm not surprised.
That's why they called it a "Prologue" yet people still expect it to be 15 hours.

has anyone realised they were only allowed 4 hours from konami rather than saying this game is 4 hours in length?
People like to jump to conclusions.

saved me 40 bucks. Thanks gi
Your loss.

I love MGS but I won't be supporting this and you shouldn't either because we'll be getting bent over by this kind of tactic in future, just like we are now with DLC.

I'll wait for the full game which will have this included.

Its longer than expected, I thought this was going to be as short as the Tanker chapter so thats a pleasant surprise.

And don't bring up the argument that people bought ZOE for just the demo like, whilst true this happened that's a moronic thing to do, and hardly a good foundation to justify a practice like this.

My point was that even if you spent $50 on ZOE for both the game and the MGS2 demo, you could easily beat both of them in under 6 hours.

So paying $40 for a demo that may or may not be only 4 hours isn't a big deal to me.

Timed stealth missions are even worse. Probably the single worst piece of game design in the entire industry.

I get the feeling you've never seen MGS speed runs of any nature, MGS is/should be designed so memorization and skill can get you through areas in a manner of seconds. MGS2 played on it's hardest difficulty is one of the best stealth experiences in this entire medium.

From the other thread.

This would increase the amount I'd be willing to pay for a 4 hour main story experience.

Dat is sexy cover!

i'll wait till there's a clarification from GI. I usually play MGS multiple times, so i don't really mind, but, if Konami decide to bundle it with Phantom pain, i probably gonna wait. since i don't really like cliffhanger :(

Why everybody is up in arms about Konami selling a 4 or 5 hours game for 40 bucks is beyond me.
This is the industry where publishers have sold 5 hour games by the dozens and priced them at $60.

I just rented zoe and I felt ripped off. I thought I was missing something so I played through again to see if there were story elements that I didn't unlock or if there was an alternate ending or something. So just because it was a short game doesn't mean people were happy with what they purchased.

You need to play more stealth games then because MGS has never been better than a second tier stealth game. Speed runs are not how games should be experienced anyway, if people want to waste time doing that that's their problem.

Most people complaining about the $40 price are probably people that wouldn't buy the game day 1 anyway.

That's fucking stupid. I desperately want a taste of MGS5, but no way in fuck am I supporting this shit. ENTITLED PUBLISHERS need to stop expecting free money.

The side stuff probably is just repeatable generic content like the portable titles, so yea this is looking worse and worse. Don't think it will be day one.

Probably the single worst piece of game design in the entire industry.

I wonder how many different things you have put that label on so far
