Game Informer played through MGS Ground Zeroes' main mission in [1.5hrs, not rushing]

Day one, also I believe it's only going for 20 bucks and 30 bucks. I think digital is 20 and hard copy is 30. I forget but that's still cheap and the fact is; there's MORE missions than the main storyline and the fact the storyline is more than 2 hours excited me. Mostly because I expected it to be, sneak, grab, end.

Seriously though, buy it, it's Metal Gear, it's Fox Engine, it's Open-World, what more do I have to say?

A store in my country says on the game's page that it has about 1.5 hours of gameplay + side missions and that it isn't too pricey at 40 euros, lol.

I feel like $20 is probably the most objectively fair price for Ground Zeroes, an extra $10 tax on next-gen would not be logical but people would bite

$40 I feel is where people start to flip out

Well, there's a $30 version for PS4/XOne so...

1. buy PS4 version
2. Beat it in an afternoon
3. Trade in to Gamestop/Amazon for ~$20 credit

It's a shame that Konami wants to indulge in this stupid cash grab rather than bundle the demo with Castlevania. That series could really stand to get some extra attention from consumers. This dumb move actively harms both MGS and Castlevania.

I'll get $40 of enjoyment out of it regardless of length so not a big deal to me. I'm sure I'll enjoy ground zeroes much more than plenty of longer games I've played
Agreed.

Until Game Informer states if it was to completion I fill like that picture summarizes this thread pretty well.

It's called paraphrasing and that is basically what you said.
I'd rather have you quote my stuff. Things are already confusing, we don't want to confuse people even more just because you were lazy enough not to click on the Quote function xD

Holy shit. You're actually insane
Nope

Are you kidding me
why would I be?

I wonder if there were no physical version of this game if there would be AS much drama as there is around the price.

people would probably still bitch about $30 for next gen but not as much
They will bitch about the 20$ too if the game was a digital only.

It's not a good value for the money. There is no way I would buy this.

including Ground Zeroes for free with another game is crazy, it's CLEARLY more than just a demo.

is it worth $20-40? that's debatable, but certainly everyone can agree it's worth more than $0

I am not being defensive, but a lot of people here are misleading others and that creates confusion among the fans. I was "sent" to clear those confusions out.

Just let them be. People will get all the info they need on the game after it has been released. Most Metal Gear fans want this game to be great and want nothing more than to feel that they spent their money wisely... Is that too much to ask for? Personally, I never got the point in worrying about a game before it's released, considering all of the facts are generally available within minutes of release. That being said, there has been plenty of misinformation spread about this game, whether it be here or from Kojima's team, and it's easy to see how it can cause a panic.

As long as you continue posting with blatant fanboy-ism, people's cynicism will continue to exist. I'm not saying I don't blame you (to a certain extent). I'm as hardcore a MGS fan as there is, and even "yelled" at a mod (Sorry, EmCeeGramr, you're a nice dude!) in one of my first posts, because at the time I thought he was just shitting on the game just for the sake of shitting on the game, but in all honesty, he made very valid points -- just like a lot of people in this very thread are. (All I mean by this soliloquy is that if you want people to accept the information you are looking to share, then you should stop attacking others for not having the same appreciation of the series that you have.) You're going all-out to defend a game that a good chunk of the NeoGAF community wants to succeed.

You could tout that it has than two hours of storyline on your facebook fanpage. Put it right on the front, and see if people think its a positive.

Dat Konami theft!

No f**king way am I paying more than $10 for a 4-hour game.

Nope nope nope nope nope.

Is that South Park, Titanfall, Donkey Kong and Dark Souls 2 I hear? Why look at you and all your lovely value! I think I'll be buying you guys! Yes I will! Yes I will! Who's a good game? You Are! Yes you are! Not like THAT 4-HOUR BULLSHIT!

that's what I'm saying, I was wondering out loud if there never were physical versions how much differently all this would have played out

People were bitching that there weren't XO and PS4 physical copies announced at first.

After they announced them they started bitching some more :lol

Not seeing the big deal here. There are side missions and its not like you cant beat MGS1-3 in around 4 hours. None of the games in this series are that long gameplay wise.

So a 60 dollar game that lasts 6 to 8 hours is judged on its 'fun factor' and anything longer is just needless 'padding' but a 20 to 30 dollar metal gear game lasts 4 hours (not counting side missions) and it's ripoff and konami is milking the series? That hardly seems fair to me. Honestly for the price and ignoring the side missions this seems at least on par with every other main series entry.

Who said a 6-8 hour $60 game is based on its fun factor only? What game are you talking about?

If those four hours are really amazing and expertly done it will be absolutely worth it.

People should keep in mind some of the best games, Contra, Super Mario Bros, Sonic, etc, are all about an hour long each. It's all about execution.

If we're paying this much for a demo they should at least throw in a free Zone of the Enders game like in the past

All of this drama could be easily avoided if Konami came out and announced that 4 hours represent total gameplay time, not accounting cutscenes.

Which last 4 hours.

So, there. Now your game is 8 hours, MGS fans.

that's true but to be fair no one expected physical version to cost more than their digital counter parts

Isn't that how it should be though? I mean with every game, not just this one.

I mean they planned on the next gen version only being digital, people wanted physical so they delivered but feel the need to pass on the cost.

I've got the disc version ordered for about half the price of a full game retail RRP which are increasingly clocking in at between 8-12 hour campaigns. I honestly didn't realise people were expecting more content so I've been a bit shocked at this thread backlash.

I will take it easy then, thanks for the reply. :)

Just wanted to say that Gran Turismo did this "prologue" stuff twice now and no one complained this much at that time, saying things like "$40 for a demo?! hell no!"
The truth is Konami wants to milk this franchise until it dies, that doesn't mean the game is bad!
- 4 hours for just the main mission is way too much, this is a prologue! Not half a game! (full MGS playthrough is about 8-10 hours);
- Kojima has said in the past that he thinks games will be more social in the future, and that he'd like for game development to be like this : show early work > fans respond > developers tweak the game according to replies and publish the game.
So yeah people are complaining about the price of a prologue that is a moneygrabber for Konami and a way to improve The Phantom Pain for Kojima.

I didn't mean to imply that people were right to not expect the physical versions to cost more. I'm not really sure how I feel about it honestly.

something certainly could be said for trying to incentivize people to move away from physical

I've always had an issue with Gran Turismo doing it too.

$10 more? no. the cost per unit of printing and distribution of a disc is buttons.

Every short, highly cinematic aaa retail game released in the last 6 to 8 years. The type of game I wait to buy used no matter how good the review score. I'm referring to the trend of defending extremely short games with no replay value based upon the fact that they are 'memorable'. It's the value proposition debate in general. I firmly believe that more content or inventive to replay is essential to any 60 dollar purchase but I feel like I'm in the minority these days. Which is why I'm puzzled by the hate I'm seeing here.

They give you a choice : wait a full year for the final game, or buy a prologue and get a feel for what's coming. Where's the problem in giving that choice to players?

They can, but it doesn't mean everyone has to agree with the practice.

the key difference (and an important one) between Gran Turismo Prologue and Ground Zeroes is that Ground Zeroes might not actually be included in The Phantom Pain

you said people didn't complain when GT did it, I'm just telling you I did with that one too.

I am part of the problem, as I will be purchasing this for PS4. However, I also bought ZOE for the MGS2 demo - and didn't even boot ZOE for a loooooonnggggg time. Like a year after purchase.

This is the only series I would do this for.
