Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

hahah thanks for the read guys - drama is delicious.

And nice to see Lucario back. Now Mewtwo can have the chance to beat the shit out of him after "taking" his spot in Brawl.

I hope that you realize that Sonic is one that took Mewtwo's spot. Technically, Mewtwo should have the chance to beat the shit out of Sonic.

I actually spar against a Lvl. 9 CPU Mewtwo with my Sonic in Project M.

Roy is my punching bag in Training Mode.

Can we really confirm that Sonic knocked out Mewtwo though? Seems like nothing more than speculation to me. Especially since a few other characters got cut, or barely made it past the chopping block.

I fully expect Mewtwo in this game btw.

Reminds me why I don't like combo'ing in Smash.

The same knee move 3-4 times in a row is too easy and cheap to be a combo.

Eh... there's a lot going on in that GIF that just implies a bunch of Knee's. Being able to move like that while mixing in manually cancelled short-hopped-fast-falled aerials in the first place is an extreme amount of work to those who don't play on higher levels (and that's not even all what's happening). When I first started getting into Smash Bros like that, just trying to consistently short hop alone took time.

So one of the last things that GIF is, is "too easy", but I agree that there are combos in Smash Bros that I don't like.

Any Marth combo is pretty much beautiful, but Project M Lucario combos are frustrating as hell to watch.

From what I see, Mewtwo and Roy are mostly worked on out of forbidden seven so that meant that they were worked on until Sega decided to give Sakurai a permission to add Sonic AT LAST MINUTE. Sonic was last minute addition to Super Smash Bros Brawl which would actually explain the delays that Braw got.

Roy is a fucking monster of the worst kind in Project M. :lol

I am almost devoted with a sick level of obsession to breaking him down and figuring out how to stonewall him. Maybe its just frustration from playing Marth and realizing that at my level, he has it WAY easier when he wants a KO, but it's certainly led to me learning a lot about how Project M (and Melee in general) worked, so yay!

I'm legitimately trying to think of "ugly" combos in Smash and drawing a blank. You are right though that Marth has best combos. /bias

P:M Lucas and Pit are also amazing.

I love all three installments for very different reasons.Style, speed and character roster are my favorite parts for each game respectively.

I think people are getting nutty without Nintendo Direct for a long time, and two Lucario screens from Daily Image.

Most likely. The worst parts of pre-release are the news droughts.

This kind of shit is why I disregard the competitive fan base.

I assure you most competitive players aren't as brash as theprodigy and Anth0ny are.

I know that Sonic's edition was last minute and the cause for delay, but I still think Lucario also factored into Mewtwo's cut.

I want us all to have fun. : (

It's also interesting just how varied Smash can be. The ways you play it and approach it, the game can just morph itself to so many different levels.

Playing competitively can be a blast, and I have a lot of appreciation for it. Playing an all Brawl Ganondorf fight against my 2 brothers, items on and on Spear Pillar is some of the most hilarious stuff ever.

Yeah, that's what I remember reading. The delay really sucked, and Mewtwo not actually making it in Brawl was a really upsetting decision when all is said and done. Considering Brawl's more juggle, spacing and defensive based play, I think Mewtwo would have translated relatively well (better than Captain Falcon at least).

I think I have a 50/50 feeling towards Jigglypuff's walls of pain. I mean, compare it to a stylish Peach wall of pain, and then there's no contest!

A Jigglypuff up-throw to Rest combo on Fox/Falco (basically a 0-death) is a grey area to me, but I like style combos more than anything else.

And this kind of shit posting is why there continues to be a divide between players of both styles.

That's why it's important for everyone to lay back and play casual matches sometime since it's a lot of fun when you are taking a break from competitive matches.

Today, I had a long session with smash gaffers on NORMAL BRAWL, ALL ITEMS ON HIGH, random stage. It was a lot of fun, and I really appreciate brawl even more with items on.

I'm down

I like items and crazy stages

except new pork city (too big) and speak pillar (fucked up controls isn't fun)

I'm legit shocked we aren't having a Nintendo direct this week, from the looks of it. they have to spend way more time than anyone asked promoting donkey kong! what's the deal iwata

Nobody ever talks about Smash 64!

They don't have any other big games for the WiiU until Mario Kart 8.
May as well promote the monkeys, there's a software drought a comin'.

you know what they say
it's fucking Donkey Kong

(is the emphasis part supposed to be italics or caps, I forget)

I need to get some online matches with you guys. I'm so rusty. I main Mario by the way.

Sound good. I'm up for that anytime!

I was pretty sure that we are getting one this week, but apparently that they are advertising Donkey Kong just fine without Direct which lead me to believe that we might not get Direct until Late Feb.

I guess Nintendo are too busy with Investor Briefing, Stock BackBuys, etc so they don't have time to gathering the trailers, filming and editing at the moment.

Some gullible people out there. I was another forum and some people are thinking the fake character select screen with the photoshopped Ness and Baoyonetta are real.

Here's what I commonly see happen that starts the whole casual vs. comp stuff:

Competitive dood: "I don't like items, they're [insert words that make items sound sinful]!"
Casual dood: "Hey! I like those things! Comp. play is [insert words that make competitive play sound sinful]!"
Competitive dood: "Oh yeah? Casual play is [insert words that make casual play sound sinful]!"
etc etc. (Can also happen in the reverse where the casual dood says something about comp. play and comp. dood gets offended)

I'm doing a bit of a hyperbole but you get the point. The one thing that is different between the two groups is that the comp. player is going to (by default) have a better understanding of the game in both types of play while the casual player won't have the understanding of comp. play -- that's where the issue lies because as soon as a casual player makes an incorrect comment about comp. play you're bound to make someone feel vexed even if you don't mean to and you're just expressing your (
misinformed
) opinion.

At the same time, the comp. player only wants you (the casual player) to see it from their perspective on how they enjoy the game. They want you to understand it as the series is just as near and dear to their heart as yours -- they just play it more seriously and often times, even if it's more serious, the comp. player is having fun too. 99% of Nintendo fans have completely misunderstood comp. players and that's why some are a bit hypersensitive to when you say something that's wrong about comp. play (or any of the game mechanics they like).

Best advice in this instance: don't comment on something you really don't know a lot about.

Also, the .gifs were meant to be fun, idk why or how they sparked this friction in the first place. How a Falcon comboing someone with a knee three-five times isn't hilariously amazing is beyond me. But maybe that's because I understand what went into getting those knees and the people who don't just shrug like it's nothing. =\

Makes me sigh a lot (see this is exactly what I was saying above about wanting players to understand comp. play or the deeper mechanics of Smash that apply more to comp. play).

I wrote too much, I'm done lol.

That Project M leak assuming it's real (and I read a few posts on various other places that seemed to suggest it was a disgruntled team member who leaked shit on google docs and then quit) is pretty neat sounding, assuming they can pull it off:

Leaked info:
-Sami, Issac, Knuckles, Lyn and... Skull Kid as newcomers
-More alternate costumes such as SNES Captain Falcon

I'm seriously questioning who pushed for Knuckles though. I don't even hate the idea so much as question why they didn't go for someone else more interesting and Nintendo-related to create from the ground up when there's already a ton of fan mods that put in every sonic character under the sun into Brawl.

The other newcomers sound pretty tits though assuming they don't shitcan everything due to this leak, and I'm guessing Anthony's happy about
Skull Kid
.

even for a fan project, I doubt it
