Is Pizzolatto attached to write the entire series (as in, beyond this season)?

As great as this season has been (so far), I'm already worried about changing the formula of Fukunaga and Pizzolatto. Fukunaga is an amazing/inspired choice--dude just NAILS haunting atmosphere and psychological drama.

He was a great choice but he deserves to be doing whatever he wants to do. Everything he's touched has been good. As long as they get a young hungry director to sign on for an entire season, I'm on board.

By the way, Dallas Buyer's Club is out on blu-ray/dvd today in case anyone wants to watch more McConaughey.

He's phenomenal in it. I can't believe how (appropriately) ill he looks. Obviously not Christian Bale a la Machinist levels of weight loss, but still. He barely looks like himself.

Also, I mentioned it earlier, but Galveston was really good. I read it in a day, too, so it's a pretty quick read. As Shane says over at Paste, it's a great way to pass the time until Sunday. I also bought his collection of short stories and I'm also looking forward to reading those. Might check out some Denis Johnson since Pizzolatto considers him to be one of the greatest contemporary American writers.

The slow part is over? Oh thank God.

Episodes 2 and 3 were such a slog. Great tits notwithstanding.

Episodes 2 and 3 were just fine. This is probably not the show for you if you found them to be a slog (particularly considering they constitute a quarter of the season).

I'm going to watch episode 4 no matter what. If it still doesn't grab me I'm out.

I am still pissed at how crappy the 3rd season of American Horror Story was.

How are the first two seasons of AHS? Is it worth watching? I've seen it on Netflix and have thought about trying it a couple of times.

One and two have their ups and downs but are defiantly worth your time.
Season three had a lot of promise but just turned into a massive clusterfuck of a mess

Watching se7en right now.
God I love this movie.
God I hope this show goes on for a couple more quality seasons. Gritty crime solving partner drama is the best shit.

First episode's on now (of course I'm typing this right as the spaghetti monster sketch that I wanted to see again comes up and I miss it), and I just realized that the preacher that tells them about the devil stick thingies is Clarke Peters of Treme/The Wire fame. Might he be coming back in a later episode (hence why they got a 60 year old actor and made him look young instead of just getting someone the appropriate age), or were they just throwing a bone out to someone who's done some great work with HBO?

I hate how IMDB ruins speculation like this

I'll give it a try sometime then. Thanks!

If you love it, I'd recommend the commentary too if you're into that sort of thing. Fincher's anecdotes of the production are very informative and occasionally hilarious.

Hmmm I've been thinking of listening to his commentaries, heard the fight club one is good too.

That interview has me very excited for the future, and as much as I doubt he can create a character even more interesting then Cohle, the fact he has so much faith in this new character already is promising.

I’ve enjoyed reading people theorize about what’s going to happen because it’s a sign that you’re connecting. But I’m also sort of surprised by how far afield they’re getting. Like, why do you think we’re tricking you? It’s because you’ve been abused as an audience for more than 20 years. The show’s not trying to outsmart you. And really if you pay attention… if someone watches the first episode and really listens, it tells you 85 percent of the story of the first six episodes.

Holy crap. My respect for the creator just went up 600%. So.fucking.true.

That Daily Beast interview is great. This part has been quoted already but it really stood out to me:
And really if you pay attention… if someone watches the first episode and really listens, it tells you 85 percent of the story of the first six episodes.

I rewatched first episode for the third time today. Marty mentions "the kids in the woods." So far, we only know of two children - Marie Fontenot, who is missing, and the girl who escaped the "green eared spaghetti monster" in the woods. Rust then says, at the end of the episode, something along the lines of "I guess you want to hear the hero's shot, huh? The place we carried the kids out?" McConaughey is kinda mumbling here so I can't really understand what he said, but that's the gist of it.

My first impression, going on what Rust says, is that the children in the woods are still alive, hence the use of the phrase hero's shot. If this is the case, and Marie Fontenot is one of them, she's been alive in the woods all that time. Unless Rust is using the phrase ironically and the kids are dead. Which, well, shit.

We haven't heard of any additional missing children, have we? I can't recall if anything was mentioned about it in episode 2 or 3.

I'm really curious to see how this plays out. If the person abducting the kids and the murderer are one in the same (evidenced by the devil traps found at both crime scenes), I wonder what the motivation is for the two very different crimes, especially if the children are being kept alive. I have some theories but I won't go into them right now.

Second season directed by Johnson and starring Fassbender and Elba.

Just watched all three eps back to back this is a fucking masterpiece of Television... and the only thing I don't like about it is its different people/story for each season I like Cohle to much to care after this season... lol I only like Cohle because of Matthew, no Matthew no watch...
THE CYCLE HAS BEGUN

No problem. For future reference, always check the OP because this sort of info is usually in there for TV threads.
Not sure if anyone posted this yet. But here is another interview with the showrunner. Apparently he talks about the influence of Thomas Ligotti (I haven't read it yet).

Thanks for the link. I think someone put that up earlier, but it's worth another look.

Derp. My bad. I didn't even look in the OP for it.

This is the first I'm hearing about Ligotti, so I've been reading up on him.

Here is a very interesting interview with him, if anyone is interested:
