Staying In Sochi Is A Hilarious Adventure in the ass.

Combined with the broken English, this is really hilarious.

Pretty distasteful to criticize someone for trying to write in his secondary language and for being citizen of russia. I don't think he has anywhere in this thread denied that the preparations have been a bit clusterfuck. He is just trying to explain some of these fuck ups as well you know, he is a russian and maybe knows what is common there.

He also implied that the growing negativity due to these issues was solely from western countries because they hate Russia. You want to talk distasteful? Lumping a bunch of countries and their citizens together and insinuating insidious motives is a pretty low blow, too.

They have concrete (structural and basically unfinished outside of stain/polish) ceilings in just about every other loft or modern construction architect-house. I would hardly describe it as rare.

Hmmm lofts and modern constructions architect houses would be classified as rare. Not rare for that style of building, no, but rare for the grand total of western construction? Probably...in fact I'd say definitely.

Well sure was mature way to respond. ''lol he is from russia'' ''lol he writes bad english''.

Best bidet ever.

Being booked in that room makes him the hotel's honorary fireman. In case of fire, he will be expected to valiantly give his life fighting the blaze while the hotel's other guests escape.

EDIT: Before anyone asks, the second toilet brush also makes him the honorary janitor.

Serious. How awesome it is to have someone from Moscow to offer his take on things whether or not you always agree. Digging up twitter pages is sketch. Happy to have the variety of voices.

Come on, lets go down this road. It's not easy watching the world ridicule where you live. It sucked for a lot of us living in Vancouver before the games got started with many of the press (especially from the UK) questioning everything.

Save your ire for Putin, not Gaf members from Russia.

I did neither of those things, but believe whatever makes you feel self righteous :)

Is there any poll of the opinion from Russian citizens related to this topic?

There is not one single person with a positive opinion on the whole Sochi 2014 story in my social circle, I can tell you that much. A lot of people are still going to be excited for the games, because they only listen to the TV and the TV says that everything is all right. It's the same with everything in this country: there are those in the know, those who are being fooled constantly, and finally there are those in denial.

As for the ceilings, this is probably indeed a design choice, not a last minute effort as some people seem to think. You often see these in fancy places, especially if the owner's trying to show off a bit (which is definitely the case here, albeit everything has been going terribly wrong). I don't get what's supposed to be so great about that type of ceiling, personally, but you can't blame them for that.

According to Google, in similar rooms. Maybe someone that understands Russian can confirm this from the video at the link.

I can. They say that most of the athletes are to stay in rooms like the one in the video. Supposedly, there is also a small amount of rooms that are somehow different, but they did not elaborate.

What a weird design though: a large room with a huge ass window and those ridiculous tiny beds put so close to each other, otherwise empty.

Team Canada's hockey team will be staying in rooms like this.....lol

Actually Sidney Crosby said that conditions at Vancouver in 2010 were pretty much the same thing, with multiple people to a room. I live in Vancouver and can tell you that the Olympic Village isn't very big at all.

Those look like twin size beds though. I'd be shocked if they didn't have at least queen size beds in Vancouver.

Edit: Couldn't find any pictures, but a few articles like this:
On the eve of the Winter Olympics' opening ceremonies, the waterfront condo complex in Vancouver that is housing more than 2,700 Olympic athletes and team officials is winning almost universal praise from its guests. The suites are, to borrow a favorite snowboarding phrase, sweet, with marble-top counters in the shiny new kitchens. Each unit has a living-room area — a far cry from the dormlike conditions of Villages past. And the views are nothing short of breathtaking.

Many apartments look out onto an inlet and the silver downtown skyline, with snowcapped mountains as a backdrop. "It's blown us away, to be honest," says U.S. speedskater Chad Hedrick, who won gold, silver and bronze medals at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, and is a medal contender this year. "They really went big on this. It's a million-dollar view, for sure."
Some teams did have three athletes to a room, hence the 'dorm' phrasing from Crosby.

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!
Didn't India host a similar event recently? How bad is this compared to India?
India hosted the 2010 commonwealth games.
I'm pretty sure there was similar incomplete facility stuff flying around before that also. Don't remember the games themselves being effected.

Ya, judging by the pillow I suppose you're right. I'm average size, and I know I'd have a hell of a time sleeping in something that size as I like to sprawl out. Must suck if you're a 6' 3", 250lb hockey player. At least it appears all teams (including the Russians) have the same beds. We might see a bit more stretching than usual before each game.

Are you in Japan? I know many buildings and residences in cities use bare concrete as a design choice.

Never encountered an apartment that does not have concrete ceilings in my entire 30 years of living in my country (Singapore). I guess every country has its own ways of designing and building living spaces:p

Yep. Although it can look drab and dreary if the lighting is poor or the cement was poured unevenly in the building casts. What I do know is that it's got a great echo factor and very poor heat retention.

I don't know whether that's content blocked outside of Canada, but the CBC does seem to plan on having the most extensive coverage according to a chart I saw on Reddit. Although that 1,500 hour figure might be a bit skewed by broadcasting in two languages.
I can't stand that NBC refuses to show it live. I wanna see it LIVE you assholes.
