I would happily pass some toilet roll to the young lady on the right.

Jamaican bobsled team lost their equipment somewhere between US and Sochi - they had to switch planes in New York and looks like their luggage went somewhere else.

Their agent thought that would draw big laughs in the movie sequel.

They were crowdfunded this year too, right? Damn.

Preparation of ski jumping hills is made by workers from Planica, Slovenia. They are in Sochi for almost two months now and they are preparing the slopes so they should be on the top level.

That's good news, Planica had been in bad shape for years yet nothing tragic happened, so ski jumping should go nicely.

I can't believe Cool Runnings 2 is happening live and no one can watch. They should have a live feed of the Jamaican crew at all times.

Where are you guys watching right now? CBC doesn't work over here. I'm still trying to figure out what the best way is to watch the entire thing.

It is ridiculous Russian posters are ridiculed because of their (positive) opinion on the winter olympics. For shame, GAF.

Just got some pictures in from my friend who is working at the olympics. Beautifull room, big enough for 3 people, he is there alone. 1 toilet and everything looking normal. Seems some people are lucky...

I don't know whether that's content blocked outside of Canada, but the CBC does seem to plan on having the most extensive coverage according to a chart I saw on Reddit. Although that 1,500 hour figure might be a bit skewed by broadcasting in two languages.
Just FYI, the chart is wrong for Germany, so I'd take it with a grain of salt. One of the public TV stations streaming the events has already five streams, so it'll be at least that in total.

Ya, judging by the pillow I suppose you're right. I'm average size, and I know I'd have a hell of a time sleeping in something that size as I like to sprawl out. Must suck if you're a 6' 3", 250lb hockey player. At least it appears all teams (including the Russians) have the same beds. We might see a bit more stretching than usual before each game.

If I was particularly big then I'd just take a queen size airbed with me when I travelled.

Team Canada's hockey team will be staying in rooms like this.....lol

Which bed contains the "indeterminate amount of semen"?

But it gets better. A Russian PR rep explained that famous image with the following:

What happens if you press the flush button? Does the top draw open and overflow?

OMG the wrong way round toilet seat in that Twitter feed. Someone hold me please, I've never seen anything as hilariously shambolic.

Oh come on. How are you even supposed to write a gag about this one? You literally can't do better than it already is. Crazy.

Pretty distasteful to criticize someone for trying to write in his secondary language and for being citizen of russia. I don't think he has anywhere in this thread denied that the preparations have been a bit clusterfuck. He is just trying to explain some of these fuck ups as well you know, he is a russian and maybe knows what is common there.

He's blamed the negative news on the West, dismissed stories as fake because of "his feels" and says "it's meant to be like that" to engineering clusterfucks. He's a pretty obvious shill. Read the thread.

They're really nailing that feeling of a depressing russian atmosphere.

Where else can you find rooms preconfigured with squalor?

Greece , Matla , Spain and France from my personal experience.

Maybe not in the larger metropolitan areas , but in all the Holiday resorts this is the case.

Edit : And Russian , clearly :p

Your personal experience is shit.

I mentioned this to my SO and he confirmed that concrete ceilings are thing, but rare, hard to do, heavy, and not for residential housing. So...the more you know!

Most reasonably modern (last 30-40 years),simple family homes over here (The Netherlands) have concrete ceilings and sometimes concrete walls. Sometimes poured on site, sometimes pre-fab slabs.
makes for a great sound insulator.

This is the greatest thing ever.

I want to believe this is real and not done on purpose to get a laugh.

And the best thing it probally is real.

That's the worst thing actually.

For the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this year, the organisers built accommodation for 6500+ athletes, and afterwards they'll be converted for housing.

Now time (and the media) will tell how quality-built these accommodations for Glasgow 2014 are, but if these accommodations in Sochi are still standing in a year's time then I'll be really surprised.

Externally at least the accommodations in Glasgow a very nice. I took a cycle past it on the way back from the city centre a couple of weeks ago, the buildings are all complete as is most of the landscaping. The East end of Glasgow is a bit of shithole but the area at Celtic Park, the velodrome and the athletes village is now looking pretty nice. Not sure I'd be going out walking at night into Dalmarnock or Tollcross if I'm a visiting athlete, although the approach to the recently upgraded Dalmarnock train station is nice and extremely well lit. They're about to demolish the old school in front of Celtic Park and it'll be landscaped over before the games so that should round it off.

The London Olympics have been great for the area too. The athletes village looks like amazing flats, the stadium is going to be a football ground and development has really spread to surrounding areas. The whole village area around the park, including wesfields shopping centre, are lovely. Remember, this is a piss poor area, seriously run down and in need of development. I really think the Olympics have made a positive difference to locals.

Looks like the locals of Sochi however are being treated with comtempt and disgust, that CNN article on the last page was sickening.

I spent a month in Spain back in 2006 and I rarely saw the no TP in toilet bowl thing. I was mainly staying in hostels and other non-fancy places.

You don't have to tell me that.
