PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4/PSP) | February 2014

Why does everyone have two copies of Resistance Burning Skies?
Why would you have Resistance Burning Skies at all? Now that Killzone is out and has been on sale multiple times, there is no reason to get Resistance unless you really want another FPS. Only game I've ever traded in.

Why does everyone have two copies of Resistance Burning Skies?

I assume it's emergency kindling.

Yes.

Seriously, I do not like the game. I bought the first on day one because it was a Vita FPS, and I was QUITE disappointed. When I bought a second used Vita, it came with this game, so now I have two. I don't feel like trading it in because I'd probably get like 50 cents.

There's a plasma cannon in the Spelunky daily. It was in
the mines level with the snake pit on the opposite side of the pit. 1-2 I think it was.

Anyone know what the PS3 update did?

Don't say stability...

There's a plasma cannon in the Spelunky daily. It was in
the mines level with the snake pit on the opposite side of the pit. 1-2 I think it was.

Oh that reminds me, I haven't done my daily.

Oh crap. This sounds like it's worth booting up. Did you buy glasses or find the eye so you could see where it was?

Edit: oh, hahaha, it's in the crate. wow... that thing has some kick. Shame I got greedy... flippin' awesome fun though... I was grinning like a little kid at Christmas. It's a shame a lot of Spelunky players might not ever get to use it if they don't try the challenge today.

Bought dustforce, port is not nearly as bad as hyperboleGaff says(it plays almost exactly the same as pc or ps3 version), at least not in my Vita , i didnt notice that "horrendous" framedrops, there is no point in the game when i get 15 fps thats for sure , it is not a 60fps game i guess.but is not sub 20 fps in any point during gameplay. The game has slowdowns but i only notice some of them and are very few , besides that , the game is an excellent platform game.
The platform is something special , is something fair but hard some times , controls are fine , but this is not for the easy-to-annoy-player, thats a fact.

DO NOT LISTEN to anyone just try the Demo and judge for yourself , i try it and it was enough for me to buy it.
This is not a bad port , has some little issues , doesnt affect gameplay unless you are to picky or to bad playing it.
I will fight you tooth and nail to argue that it runs at 15fps at time. At the very least it's sub-20fps. I live sub-20fps on my 4 year old Vaio. It drops when you have your dust power ready to activate and it drops when there's too many leaves on the screen. For the life of me I can't find the level but there's a section where if you run from left to right you can watch the framerate increase to max.

Horrendous? Subjective term. I place framerate as a highest priority in a platformer game. Cause it and it's girl, responsiveness, are always hanging out together.

If you're okay with a platformer that doesn't run at a smooth (locked 30) framerate, more power to ya. Download the demo before you buy it or completely dismiss it though and base your decision on that.

Just finished Hotline Miami in two sittings. Loved it, definitely worth the 3$ or so it was on sale for.

I really liked how it forces you to think quick, the few bosses scattered in there were a pain in the ass though, kind of tedious but really easy once you figure out the trick.

The story was also really crazy, a total trip just like the disorientating graphics suggest. Loved the fake-out credits after the odd fight with the purple cats and samurai girl. Then suddenly I was playing as that mid game boss I fought! So good, although his levels were hardly as interesting. Not being able to switch weapons at all or use masks. Kind of odd since that was the most fun part of the game.

I'm planning on getting a vita soon.... can someone give me 7 must have games for it?
Gravity Rush, Tearaway, Personal 4 Golden, Spelunky, Bit Trip Runner 2, OlliOlli, FFX HD (barring any major issues it may have).

Literally as soon as I touched it

FUUUUCK! I got greedy with the plasma cannon. It ended too quick.
Only managed to get it once before from the alien ship.

What's the best Metal Slug type game for the Vita? I started playing Hard Corps : Uprising, and I love it, I just don't like playing it on not Vita.

im pretty sure i didnt notice any frame drops during jumps and platforming section , it is true when you activate the power it slowdown but thats not something so bad as it is a second. I love platform games , i love the games to run well , i have ports with really low frame rate on my Vita (like jak n daxter) this is a 25-30 fps port and its ok for me , it dosent run much better on high ends pcs , i know becouse i have tried both versions , and also tried ps3 version so i can say it is almost identical in every way except some bugs with the sound but it doesnt bother me a lot. So people , try the demo and discover the world of a good platformer that is suppose to have some slowdowns it seems becouse all versions have it , even the trailers show that the character is like a little floaty.

Regarding metal slug , yes if you like futuristic racers but you dont like wipeout you are in a big trouble there

I didn't say I don't like Wipeout! But if I really think about it... I put more hours into the PSP Wipeout Pulse demo than I have either into HD or 2048. And I bought both of them. But I've never played more than 5 hours combined on either. That demo though, played it like a full game.

That gif was directed at you not liking Metal Slug. Thought we were bros :(

I thought so. I just need to jump out ahead of the Wipeout train before it ran into someone. Then again, the main reason I don't like Metal Slug right now (just re-downloaded XX) is because I can't get past that stupid as giant ball that crushes me at like the second level. It's either glitched or I'm stupid.

Well there's you problem. Dump Metal Slug XX and go play Metal Slug X and Metal Slug 3

2, Anthology, PSP, and XX.
Those are the choices. And no, I'm not restarting up my PSP and going to go buy a UMD. I'd rather not buy Anthology... It's $20 =o

coolasj19 bought it and asked for a refund because of performance problems. Isn't there a demo for people to try?

I wasn't too familiar with this game (should have thought to try the demo first), but watching a few videos convinced me to buy it. I liked the music/fluid animation and the general flow of movement you could string together (assuming you get good enough). Reminded me a bit of a fluid run on a Mirror's Edge stage.

Also, I actually didn't know that you could ask for refunds, so I suppose that's good to know. Although I'm just hoping they patch it, since going by what people were saying on the previous pages (if I understood it correctly), I wouldn't want to use up my "one time hassle free" refund on this game.

I certainly agree with your sentiment of trying it for yourself first. I wasn't really expecting performance issues, so the thought never crossed my mind to try the demo. Lesson learned.

And while I can not provide specific FPS of sub 20 or 15 via the naked eye, I can certainly corroborate coolasj19's thoughts on the matter from my own experience. Initially I thought something was wrong with my Vita, but after a few game restarts, followed by a few system reboots the problem was still there to varying degrees. I'll list some of the slow down problems I've ran into (only listing ones I've experienced more than 5 times):

  1. At times, when entering a stage and you have your character select up, the cursor skips characters. So instead of pressing right and getting the next option, I get the one after that, or 2 after that. Tapping the D-pad only once and waiting for the lag to clear up doesn't work all the time.
  2. At times, when the screen zooms out and shows more enemies with your super gauge charged
  3. At times, when there are a lot of dust/leaves on the screen.
  4. During issues #2 and #3, I've occasionally experienced input drops (pretty frustrating when you're going for SS rank).

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the demo gives access to this area, but if you go from the Nexus -> Mansion -> Caverns there is a section where you have a drop to the lower level with a group of 4 flying gargoyles with 2 more off to the left with the floor covered with dust. Even before the fall, the frame rate starts to dip slightly. But once you drop down, you'll notice a noticeable frame rate drop. Just going left and right along this path (left has a big collection of dust you can clear out to wall jump up) will literally feel like someone is turning the frame rate dial left and right sporadically. Clearing the enemies and the dust only helps sometimes. And as I stated earlier, while I don't know the specific FPS, the slow down seem to range from 30~75% of whatever it is normally at. A pretty detrimental flaw in a game that is designed to reward precise inputs and getting into a rhythm.

Do note that I'm not suggesting it's a game that you shouldn't purchase (I mean I did, and I'm not seeking a refund). After all, even in that area, sometimes it runs okay-ish. But it doesn't change the fact that this problem occurs. And more importantly, seemingly randomly. And to varying degrees of lag (I think this is the biggest issue). Hard to compensate when the amount of lag changes, and at rare times drops inputs (inputting slowly or spamming doesn't seem to matter).

Sorry the post ended up being longer than I intended. I was just trying to make sure that it was understood that it wasn't discounted as "hyperboleGaff."

Noticeable frame rate dips in precision-based platforming seems like a huge issue though. Especially when the game promotes competition between its players like I understand Dustforce is.

Speaking of, has Spelunky been fixed yet regarding frame-rate dips?

Thank god you wrote that post ad_idem, my writing skills have fallen off a cliff since my computer busted. But yeah, you're completely right. It's inconsistent in its drops and it... You already said everything. I'm dropping this.

Most of them have been fixed. I think reports are that the Jungle during the "Rushing Water" event still has slowdown and one other stage, either in the Caverns or the
Spaceship.

God I can't wait for Android Assault Cactus. I trust those guys to do right by Vita. They're targeting Native Res and 60fps, bless their souls. And Unity. I already have a $20 on the wall waiting to be used on it. Since I can't pre-order.

Too be honest I'm not really sure how to explain. I haven't played the series in a while and I haven't played through all of XX :P
One time when I was but a wee child. My dad gave me a $5 for church offerings and I totally put that SoB in a Metal Slug machine. I got 5 tokens out of it before I got in serious trouble because of it and had to leave 11 credits in the machine.

Got my ass beat. Maybe that's why I remember it so well.

Wipeout is great. But I totally suck at it. Played it like 15h and stoped when the learning curve started being too much for me lol. I need to install it again when I bought a bigger mem card.

I am lolling really hard for SmokeyDave's Vita tagline. #20V1T4

Yep, it's really funny seeing people attacking him. GAF should gift sarcasm meters for people's birthdays.

Someone hold me.

Flandy, please, send a tweet to Shahid with that soundtrack and say you already know the secret he is keeping. I want to see what he answers lol

Hey mang. Game of Thrones was on sale for $30 each. Couldn't pass that up. Were you circling Legend of Korra as well? Coudn't tell

I've started, after being

Gravity Rush, Tearaway, Persona 4 Golden, Toukiden, Soul Sacrifice, Ys, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Rayman Legends (multiplat, but looks awesome on Vita, is portable and has Origin levels).

KZ is a nice too. And there are other smaller games I haven't said.

Not feeling the love for Stick it to the Man in here. Bought it yesterday and played for a few hours last night and I'm loving it. Like the art style, the humour is much more hit than miss for me as well. The puzzles aren't difficult, but they're logical and amusing so I have no issue with that. As of right now (starting chapter 7) I would have been happy paying full price for it. :)

Tried Outlast.

Nope. Not doing that any more. Thanks, though, Sony!
I fully expect this to be me when I get around to playing it.

I doubt he'll reply but I'll try it.

wut?

I was going to say ive started reading game of thrones. Most of my friends have already read them or watched the series. I stoped paying atention to the laptop and forgot i was writting it lol

Ive already read 1/4 of the first book, its nice but after warching a couple of chapters in the series i expected more sex lol. Not that i care, i didnt start reading it for that reason.

I haven't read the books. I just saw that season 1 was on sale a few weeks ago on amazon and decided to take the plunge since I'd heard good things. Hell I haven't even finished watching season 2 yet :P I just barely got it last Tuesday

There's nothing hyperbolic about the mentions of framerate drops. They're very real. Very frequent in certain levels, which may not be in the demo. Framerate and input drops affect gameplay, skill has nothing to do with it. A high skillcapped and competitive game like this having framerate and input drops is pretty damning I'd say. You're right that people should check out the demo, but outright dismissing fair critique as too picky or lack of skill is not a fair assessment.

Speaking of Dustforce. Is anyone else having trouble with the leaderboards? Most of the time it's not submitting my scores.

Noticeable frame rate dips in precision-based platforming seems like a huge issue though. Especially when the game promotes competition between its players like I understand Dustforce is.

Speaking of, has Spelunky been fixed yet regarding frame-rate dips?

I've had one issue in the ice caves where the whole level played in slow-mo during one of my dailies, other than that it's been working great for me

Dustforce related. I meant with HyperboleGaf to the fact the game is not playable or is a terrible port , it is not , as i stated before i tried 3 different versions of the game and the problems are similar in all of them , even on high end pcs the game struggles sometimes but still, is not near as bad as for example MGS3D or Jak n Daxter. So the game is perfectly playable , except for some parts where that slowdown appears and bothers you. Thats why im saying , download the Demo dont listen to GAF and judge for your own.

So what do you think guys , Vita Global Hardware Sales will reach the 10 Million this year? I hope so, will Vita have more games selling above de 1M figure?(like Uncharted)
