coolasj19 bought it and asked for a refund because of performance problems. Isn't there a demo for people to try?
I wasn't too familiar with this game (should have thought to try the demo first), but watching a few videos convinced me to buy it. I liked the music/fluid animation and the general flow of movement you could string together (assuming you get good enough). Reminded me a bit of a fluid run on a Mirror's Edge stage.
Also, I actually didn't know that you could ask for refunds, so I suppose that's good to know. Although I'm just hoping they patch it, since going by what people were saying on the previous pages (if I understood it correctly), I wouldn't want to use up my "one time hassle free" refund on this game.
Bought dustforce, port is not nearly as bad as hyperboleGaff says(it plays almost exactly the same as pc or ps3 version), at least not in my Vita , i didnt notice that "horrendous" framedrops, there is no point in the game when i get 15 fps thats for sure , it is not a 60fps game i guess.but is not sub 20 fps in any point during gameplay. The game has slowdowns but i only notice some of them and are very few , besides that , the game is an excellent platform game.
The platform is something special , is something fair but hard some times , controls are fine , but this is not for the easy-to-annoy-player, thats a fact.
DO NOT LISTEN to anyone just try the Demo and judge for yourself , i try it and it was enough for me to buy it.
This is not a bad port , has some little issues , doesnt affect gameplay unless you are to picky or to bad playing it.
I certainly agree with your sentiment of trying it for yourself first. I wasn't really expecting performance issues, so the thought never crossed my mind to try the demo. Lesson learned.
And while I can not provide specific FPS of sub 20 or 15 via the naked eye, I can certainly corroborate coolasj19's thoughts on the matter from my own experience. Initially I thought something was wrong with my Vita, but after a few game restarts, followed by a few system reboots the problem was still there to varying degrees. I'll list some of the slow down problems I've ran into (only listing ones I've experienced more than 5 times):
- At times, when entering a stage and you have your character select up, the cursor skips characters. So instead of pressing right and getting the next option, I get the one after that, or 2 after that. Tapping the D-pad only once and waiting for the lag to clear up doesn't work all the time.
- At times, when the screen zooms out and shows more enemies with your super gauge charged
- At times, when there are a lot of dust/leaves on the screen.
- During issues #2 and #3, I've occasionally experienced input drops (pretty frustrating when you're going for SS rank).
Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the demo gives access to this area, but if you go from the Nexus -> Mansion -> Caverns there is a section where you have a drop to the lower level with a group of 4 flying gargoyles with 2 more off to the left with the floor covered with dust. Even before the fall, the frame rate starts to dip slightly. But once you drop down, you'll notice a noticeable frame rate drop. Just going left and right along this path (left has a big collection of dust you can clear out to wall jump up) will literally feel like someone is turning the frame rate dial left and right sporadically. Clearing the enemies and the dust only helps sometimes. And as I stated earlier, while I don't know the specific FPS, the slow down seem to range from 30~75% of whatever it is normally at. A pretty detrimental flaw in a game that is designed to reward precise inputs and getting into a rhythm.
Do note that I'm not suggesting it's a game that you shouldn't purchase (I mean I did, and I'm not seeking a refund). After all, even in that area, sometimes it runs okay-ish. But it doesn't change the fact that this problem occurs. And more importantly, seemingly randomly. And to
varying degrees of lag (I think this is the biggest issue). Hard to compensate when the amount of lag changes, and at rare times drops inputs (inputting slowly or spamming doesn't seem to matter).
Sorry the post ended up being longer than I intended. I was just trying to make sure that it was understood that it wasn't discounted as "hyperboleGaff."
