Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

I think Zelda should get one more rep.

Obviously Toon Zelda is a horrible idea and anyone who suggests it is probably a horrible person. That much is clear.

But these are the characters I would like to see:

1. Skull Kid
2. Midna
3. Young Link - transforms into Deku, Goron and Zora Link.

Ghirahim isn't worthy.

I agree for the most part.

Personally, I would love to see Tetra. Not Toon Zelda, Tetra stand alone.

I think Tetra is different enough to be her own character.

Isn't that exactly how Brawl and Mario Kart Wii went down?
...Fair point, but they had a wider gap in release in Japan (three months as opposed to the US' one month) and weren't on a console that was dying rapidly.

...still, though... you're making me have hope again. Dare I believe that it's actually possible we get Smash Bros. before Q4? :o

That was after Brawl was delayed twice from December to March.
Which is completely irrelevant. There is no rule that says Nintendo has to delay a game X number of times before they release it. It's done when it's done, and it's released when it's released, and as Nintendo showed with Brawl and Mario Kart Wii, they have no qualms releasing them one month after the other.

lol... I don't get those people.
Why would anyone want to play competitive matches with items on? I don't get those people.

If they are blocking Melee to promote Smash 4, the competitive scene is DEFINITELY going to shut out embracing the new one.

They'll full on boycott it. :(
First of all, unless Smash 4 is out before Evo, that makes no sense at all. Smash presence at Evo is purely free advertising.

And no one would boycott the new game (at least I hope; I don't know of anyone that would). I couldn't imagine that Smash fans wouldn't at least try it. Unless you mean boycott Evo... then... eh. If someone is going mainly to play Melee, and it's not there, then it makes sense to save the money. If you play other games too.... yeah, that's pretty silly. Nintendo is the one to blame, NOT Evo.

I doubt we here any concrete info on Smash at EVO until June after E3. Which is probably how long it will take for them to figure out a release date for Smash 4.

Because items are part of the game?

I have no problem with people playing without items and always in the same stage, but the truth is that I don't get why one would want to play Smash Bros like that.

IMO, Q3 at the earliest. Definitely not in the first half of this year, at least.

*hands flame shield* You'll be needing this.

I think the biggest hole in the "Nintendo wants Smash 4 @ Evo" conspiracy theory is that people assume that Nintendo WANTS their new game shown off at a major competitive fighting game tournament. Remember that Nintendo's current gameplan is to appeal almost exclusively to Lil' Jimmy and Nana, so they probably think that they'll end up seeing the Smash 4 Top 8 and be scared off of buying it and a Wii U.

So you think that Nintendo will be OK with having nothing worthwile released in November.

I enjoy items, it's just that that type of play just isn't fun to me in matches where I want to be playing seriously and trying to compete with others. (Edit: Sorry if I came off as abrasive/dismissive earlier; not meaning to rude really. I just disagree.)

Yeah, that's what I fear it is. I disagree with it obviously, but all you ever hear Nintendo designers talk about (thinking mostly of Sakurai, Miyamoto, Iwata) is how they can make games more fun for players of all skill levels.

What I think happens more often, is that kids and young adults see it and want to get good or just admire the skill on display. The older generation and the people who don't want to play video games because "nah, I'll just lose" will probably not watch Evo in the first place.

Different people like different things. It's not something that needs to be understood. Besides, REAL MEN USE ITEMS.

I think they've given up on advertising solely to kids and casual people. They are going to advertise the heck out of this game. I'm not saying it'll be playable, but it might be an "unofficial" DEMO tournament or something.

It'll have a presence there for sure. Whether it's a trailer, DEMO, or "Demo Tournament".

They need WiiU to sell now. If Smash can be ready this summer, they will release it this summer.

And chances are they have some holiday titles in development. They're capable of making more than one game, after all.

Basically. If Smash 4 is anything but Melee with some new characters (like Project M, which I do enjoy might I add) then they won't embrace it.

There'll be new blood playing Smash 4 competitively regardless, same thing happened with Brawl.

Mew2King is already planning on playing it competitively, but then he did the same thing with Brawl anyway -- he's an outlier but lately he's definitely been preferring Melee even despite that he plays everything.

I agree they probably have more coming (and we should see some in a Direct soon, or at E3).

At the same time, I just really don't expect Smash to be ready that early.

I remember being sad when a lot of the Melee veterans didn't transition to Brawl. M2K was one of the ones that really expressed his disappointment with Brawl sometime early on, but still played it for money. At this point he probably enjoys it. Pretty sure he'll always play every Smash game at top level though, which is honestly really cool.

I really wanted to switch, but after trying it for a while it just wasn't as fun. Great game, but it lacks the fluid movement and excitement Melee has.

No items is also part of the game, it's an option you can toggle in the game. Also, the competitive scene does not play on only one stage -- you're completely misinformed.

I don't want this thread to have several pages of bickering. Everyone knows where they stand on this subject already. However, I do agree that there is nothing worse than getting owned by a random item drop, that either gives my opponent the advantage, or explodes upon impact at the worst possible time.

Items are fun, but in a serious match where I want to in, they don't come on if I have a say so. Other than that, I lub items. <3

For the record I think the summer games will be Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors and smash 4 will be the big holiday Wii u game.

Bayonetta in July
Zelda Musou in August

Smash Wii U in October (or did I say September before?)
Smash 3DS in December

X is somewhere end of the year

WHAT'S THE MATTER, SCARED?

You're good, but I'm better!

There's just no way Smash is coming before the second half of the year, probably fall or the holidays. I'm surprised people still think otherwise.

Basically. If Smash 4 is anything but Melee with some new characters (like Project M, which I do enjoy might I add) then they won't embrace it.

This. It almost doesn't matter what Smash 4 is in terms of the competitive/"hardcore" community. If it's anything besides Melee 2, all the Smashboards types are going to hate it and keep on championing Melee (and Project M, I guess) as the only Smash game worth playing.

And I say let them! Since they probably won't end up liking it anyway (since it's not going to be Melee 2), I'd rather Smash 4 be a great game the rest of us can enjoy while the abrasive, rude, and arrogant (seriously, just look at last several pages of thread #4) competitive community continues to busy themselves with Melee and Project M.

what's up with all the insults

For one fucking tournament? Melee is bloody ancient anyway.

I don't really think Holiday smash is such a good idea. From what I know, a huge chunk of people play it in the fall as part of getting acquainted in college dorms and whatnot. It should be a late-summer title.

Seriously, stop that. That is not true for every single person. Generalizing like this is the issue, not what you are saying.
