Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

SIXTY FPS CAP - NO ULTRAWIDE

Funny GIF

I can't believe the incompetence of some devs in modern days with all the fucking ressources available, especially a freaking engine with the biggest community and documentation around.
It's Japan man. they dont play on PCs. remember RE8? literally dropping to 2 fps when those vampire chicks transformed into crows. there were three of them you had to kill and it happened everytime. anyone playing the pc version wouldve seen that. so they were like, nah, it's fine as is.

Elden Ring is another example. they have literally made three games on that engine now and still havent fixed any of the issues. Japan will never change.

p.s i was watching my son play some SOTC the other day and it reminded me of the 15 fps boss battles in the ps2 version. Absolutely hilarious how Team Ico thought it was ok to ship a game in that state. And lets not forget Ico was literally 240p on the PS2. They kept the same resolution as the PS1 version of the game even though they cancelled the ps1 version and shipped only the ps2 version of the game. 240p. lmao

In addition to this, it also took the big Japanese publishers years and years to finally release games regularly for PC storefronts.

Truth be told if we were still using physical media for PC instead of Steam, I don't think they would ever have bothered doing so.

Went back to bf1 to treat my bf6 withdrawal. Native 4k 120 fps maxed out. Looks like garbage lol i know it's a 9 year old game but some people on gaf like to pretend that graphics have not improved since last gen. Bf6 may not look like the matrix awakens but it's a massive leap in fidelity over bf1. Great lighting, so much more detail and high quality assets at that.

Also tried a bit of mafia. I just don't care for the lightning in this game. Maybe my hdr settings are off but everything looks bland. This is one of the first ue5 games since immortals, remnant 2 and lords of the fallen that's doing nothing for me. All this ue5 tech and i just can't get over the art style. I prefer the more vibrant look of kcd2.

At least mgs looks to have both the tech and the art style. Cutscenes look incredible too.

Same here. I cant even tell the difference between 60fps and 120fps. It feels very similar in terms of fluidity for me
I tried crash4 and there was visible(not crazy but u could feel it right away) difference in response time between 60 and 120fps mode, but i dont play twitch shooters/multiplayer games hardcore enough to give enough fucks about that, just gimme prettiest stable 60fps and it doesnt even have to be 4k native, 4k dlssed from 1080p is good enough too xD

Every one of those games you listed is open zoned/world. Metal Gear 3 is very linear comparatively. If UE5 is struggling to run linear games like MG3, I cant imagine how poorly it will run bigger games like TW4.

You can blame the consoles, but 10s of millions of PC users have lesser rigs than current gen conoles. This encompasses the majority of gamers. UE5 should be targeting 60fps on current gen consoles, even if it needs to reduce fidelity to do it. Massive resolution and fps dips is unacceptable compared to problems with other game engines
Alan wake 2.and Dragon Age Veilguard are not open world. Also consoles should target 30fps with full focus on visual fidelity and leave 60fps for PC and maybe pro. That way PC/Pro gets the best of both. Holding back visuals for whiny 60fps ride or die types is bad for visual progress which was already slow enough last gen.

I understand why people here feel that way but you are wrong. The fact is the majority of AAA gamers have a console or computer that are on par or less powerful than PS5/Xbox Series consoles. I am not even including Nintendo Switches, which many more developers will try to port their games to NSW2.

Developers should appeal to the masses. All games should aim for at least 60fps 1080 res on modern consoles. High end PC gamers are the minority. It has been shown quite often that gamers prefer performance over fidelity

Both Veilguard and AW2 are open zoned games. They have much bigger areas than MG3
