Director assures Ubisoft ‘remains committed’ to Beyond Good & Evil 2, despite recent upheaval

"Myself, my team and our project Beyond Good and Evil 2 are unaffected by the recent changes. I would direct you to the official press release for more information around the latest organisational structure."

He continued: "Needless to say, I am saddened by the cancellations that has affected my colleagues in other parts of Ubisoft and the industry. I urge everyone – myself included – to offer support whenever and however they can during these times.

"We remain committed and focused on delivering a remarkable game for our players to enjoy."

Beyond Good & Evil 2 was originally announced back in 2008, and despite a re-reveal in 2017, there's still been no sign of a release any time soon. Creator Michel Ancel left Ubisoft in 2020, saying he was leaving the video game industry entirely to focus on a new career in wildlife.

In 2024, Ancel shared his view on what went wrong with Beyond Good & Evil 2 during his time at the company, saying he felt that clashes between management were the main issue.

I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years this game is blamed for Ubisoft's demise. I can only imagine how much cash has been spent on a project that has yet to profit something. Given how ruthless Ubi has been with other titles, someone very powerful within the organization's structure must be keeping it alive.

Either someone is trying to save face or someone is really sure the tech for this game is the future for all Ubisoft games.

Which would mean we're moving from open world mid content to entire planet mid content, if the previous info on the project remains true.

If anyone was wondering if now is the time to buy Ubi stock, no. The rebuilding has clearly not begun in earnest.

If there's one game that Ubisoft should cancel, it must be this particular game. Just kill it. No one cares about these characters. It doesn't even look good, just weird.

Agreed. At this point it would make no difference if this thing got canceled.

The servers these files live on are a physical monument of Ubisoft's sins. The perfect embodiment of everything that went wrong. Content nobody wants and chasing bad money with good money. Your signal to buy Ubi stock is when the CEO publicly smashes these servers with a Tom Clancy branded sledgehammer.

I don't have much faith that the project will make it to the finish line, but the fact that it survived the recent slash & burn at Ubisoft is something.

Must have 120 hours of main quest content by now. And another 500 hours of side quests.
48 hours just to climb that big Genesh statue.

Rumor has it it's taking so long because they are developing a revolutionary system in which you activate these tall structures that then reveal the location of a bunch of repetitive activities you can do nearby.

The game sounded way too ambitious, which is a shame because there is a world where what they were pitching was gonna turn out awesome, eat your heart out, Starfield.

But alas, being ubislop if it even does release it will be a disappointment for sure.

I'm pretty sure Tom Henderson recently called the current version "Starfield esque".

Can't wait until next time you show this game and its your typical generic Ubisoft fetch quest simulator and boring bloated world that no one gives a crap about it. The only commitment you have is to deliver the most slop garbage ever, while taking a bunch of years and money to archieve that.

Absolute trash that has nothing to do with the original game. They got everything wrong, even the title fonts are hideous looking.. These hacks will squeeze as much money as they can before they bail out.

The year is 2099. Ubisoft still assures fans that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is in development.

Kinda bizarre they won't cancel this sequel to a game very few people actually played, but they'll shit can Prince of Persia games and other games that might actually attract players lol

The first game was pretty good though, but the sequel is NEVER releasing.

But why? There's no way this game would be profitable with the absurd production cost, lack of general interest, Ubi's current financial problems, and the fact that Beyond Good and Evil was never this massive IP that warrants this much operating cost.

Nice chunk of costs over the years for a sequel the vast majority of gamers dont care about, heard of the IP, or will buy.

But a good grift for a bunch of employees to keep a job for a bit.

Kind of like the recent Vampire Masquerade Bloodline 2 sequel bombing sales. Noboby seemed to care about the first Vampire game 20 years ago which sold so lousy it lead to Troika Games shutting down. So why would anyone care about a sequel now?

I'm not sure why this is still being made honestly. It was a niche title 20 years ago that was decent but nothing mind blowing, a lot of other games from that era were a lot better. I don't get the appeal.

The fixation with trying to resurrect this long-forgotten mediocrity of an IP is utterly incomprehensible to me.

Truly bizarre.
