I just asked about this earlier in the thread. The Monsterpedia is the only place I can see this info. I shouldn't need to remember this stuff. At the very least they could have added the ability to see this info as you learn more about monsters when you find more monster tracks in the game. If I'm wrong, someone tell me. Maybe it's in there and I missed it. I'm getting wrecked in some battles because I constantly lose the rock paper scissors checks.

Man traversal is so much smoother compare to pervious games and like the fact all monsters can jump which was very stupid that only specific monsters could jump in pervious games.

Also god damn the environments are gorgeous!

Just a heads up… if you are playing this game in HDR, I highly recommend you do the following. On the in-game options for brightness, set minimum brightness to 0, and maximum brightness to whatever your display can handle, per the on-screen directions. However, do NOT follow the directions on screen 3 for general brightness.

When I follow the directions, I hit 15 for general brightness and this is the result:
FMkohdDlHx1PwVc1.jpeg

But if I ignore the directions and set general brightness to 0, I get this:
WEgEosyfqryf69T7.jpeg

The game looks incredible if you set general brightness to 0 when in HDR.

Thank you!! I knew it looked off and couldn't put my finger on why!

I recalibrated the HDR a couple times. Looks like their system is broken lol

I just changed mine to this and holy wow what a difference this makes. Great job working this out and thanks for posting it!

Yep, one piece odyssey they have the same kind of system but at least when you fight them on the side of their name you see what kind of attack they do, they should do the same with monsta hunta stories 3

I'm really having a hard time understanding this battle system. I gotta watch online tutorials because I'm straight up lost 😵‍💫

Thanks! This is off the top of my head, so apologies I don't have the names 🙂

I understand the rock paper scissors thing, but I don't know when that activates.

I also don't understand what the icons are after I choose an action. It'll let me choose what part of the monster to attack, but then I see 3 icons with a blue bar underneath it. Sometimes the 3 icons are highlighted or they're crossed out.

And the blue bar shows that an attack will fill it up.

I'm so confused on what actions to choose and when to choose them. And then my party members and monsters are going batshit crazy and having fun doing amazing things, while I'm like "wait wait wait wait" 😂

I'll try to answer based on Monster Hunter Stories 2, I don't think the system changed as it sounds pretty similar:

I understand the rock paper scissors thing, but I don't know when that activates.
- I think you just need to memorize it for each monster. Example a Jagras will always attack with Speed attacks, until it becomes enraged (becomes red-ish), at which point it will always attack with Power attacks until it turns back into normal state. When fighting monsters for the first time, I suppose you make an educated guess.

I also don't understand what the icons are after I choose an action. It'll let me choose what part of the monster to attack, but then I see 3 icons with a blue bar underneath it. Sometimes the 3 icons are highlighted or they're crossed out.
- The the 3 icons if not mistaken tells you which weapon type is effective against that part, whether its a slashing weapon, a blunt weapon or a piercing weapon. Once you find the effective (highlighted)/ineffective (crossed out) weapon type, the icon should always indicate this as every turn you're allowed to change your weapon type once. The blue bar is the durability of that monster part, once it goes down, the monster part breaks and you collect the monster part material.

And the blue bar shows that an attack will fill it up.
- I think this is related to how much charge is accumulated to perform specific weapon skills?

The rock paper scissor thing happens when a monster is targeting you or your monstie but only when it's doing a "regular" attack and not a skill attack! You will notice a direct line between you and the monster. Sometimes there's an arrow instead, this means there won't be a rock paper scissors scenario

What you're talking about is the blunt/slash/pierce mechanics. In MHS3, long sword & great sword deal slash damage - hunting horn and hammer deal blunt and bow & gunlance deal pierce damage. If you break that specific bar of the monster, certain things might happen. The game tells you what happens if you break the bar, say "wyverndamage dealt" which means if you get the bar done then the monster will take an additional wyvern damage upon breaking the bar.

Ask away!! :D

This wasn't on my radar at all but it genuinely looks charming and interesting. Will stick it on the wishlist!

Thank you both!! That all makes sense now!

Was flying over some Plesioths in the water, jumped down and got my ass handed to me and literally was

Found a cave with a Plesioth egg though so that was nice!

The pickle wasn't as bad as I expected. I managed to kill it on my second attempt just when I got to the new map. Looking forward to crafting all of its gear and breaking the game!

the issue I feel is that that the starting gear upgrade needs materials from the 3rd zone, the character gear scaling just outright sucks, the pickle was the only worth while upgrade in the entire zone. You should be able to get some gear to lvl 2 in the first area and lvl 3 guaranteed in the 2nd. It becomes utterly worthless by the new monster gear when the lvl 3 is worse than the lvl 1 of the new zone.

Habitat restoration has been great system. It's both great mechanic and great way makes Riders different than Hunters.

I heard the game has a monsterpedia...
Ok, how intuitive, how fun is it to, every time I'm about to encounter a monster out in the field, press the menu, press R1 twice, press X, then scroll down and SEARCH for said monster (there are 200+ entries in the monsterpedia, so you have to look carefully). When you finally find the monster, you have to press R1 once, then press R3 to see what color the monster is in regular form, enraged form and enraged/critical-mode. Then remember this. Then press Start two times to get out of the menus completely and now I can finally fight the monster.

Oh and that's for one battle. Yesterday, I got the achievement for fighting 300 enemies.

How fun is that, do you think? Do you realize what happens to pacing and tempo when I have to do the above thing almost every time I engage in a fight which, mind you, happens 100+ times a day for me?

Hahahaha, no worries brother. It's just VERY bothersome to do 🤣

Does the game really has 200 monsters? Or the entries include the small creatures aswell?
It really does, there are so many variants of each monster, colors etc, all have their own "page". It's insane.

This game is the most convoluted and unnecessarily complicated turn based game I've ever played. Just when I think I've got the loop figured out, some new more complicated system is introduced. Not showing enemy attack type/style even after multiple fights is a head scratching decision. I don't want to play a memory game and have to remember all of the thousands of info that appears for a split second during battles. I need a battle log of what happens after every action so I can plan my next move and not have to guess every turn and remember even a fraction of the thousands things that just occurred.

I don't think you're wrong lol

I haven't had a game overwhelm me this much so quickly in a long time.

it's mechanically heavy for sure! but think of it this way, there's no real end game currently in the game. The hardest content in the game is easily "solvable" with a few correct monsties and some basic play. if the game gets crazy TU updates going forward then maybe then it'll even be necessary to learn every mechanic the game throws at you but until then, just chill and enjoy the story and have fun playing this SMT/Pokékon-style game!

MH Stories 3 will be my game of the year, I am a little surprised at how good it really is.

I'm not surprised at all, 2nd game was big upgrade over the 1st game and 3rd game is even bigger upgrade over the 2nd game.

Capcom doing great job improving Stories series with each game.

I mean I know it was going to be good , but I was surprised at how much good is it :).... pleasantly surprised , it's legit the best game I have played this year so far.

I LOVE the way the did Elder Dragon fight here.

I love the fact the entire weather changes when they appear on the map
