So I just started watching tonight's episode and something is already distracting me. I have a feeling Abe is immune to being infected or the zombies in this series are really lame in the ways they can infect others.

Last season he had fresh zombie blood splatter all over his newly opened wound and that did nothing. This episode Sasha slashes a zombie's throat and in the same swipe cuts Abe's arm with the zombie blood on it.

The first half of this season was really strong for me, but this half is 0/2. I was hoping things had turned around after the massive failure of the prison/governor arc, but I'm not optimistic now.

Ohhhh sheeeeei, good catch

I felt the same.

Honestly this episode was my least favorite this season. Least favorite in a long time.

I mean Jesus Christ this whole episode felt like a waste of time. It could've been done in half the time.

No one in the series has ever cared in the least bit about zombie splatter.

It's just a thing that doesn't matter in their universe, despite it not making sense.

I wish I could say worst episode involving a farm or barn, but alas, cannot be said. Still, worst episode of the season.

Common sense in their situation would tell me to get on a boat and find a small island where no walkers could possibly reach you because they cannot swim.

But no let's travel 500 miles to Washington where we will probably end up in another "safe" camp with another corrupt leader that turns on them.

Next time on The Walking Dead, newcomer Aaron stars in How To Loose Friends and Alienate People.

I really enjoy Scott Gimple as a showrunner, but the pacing on these last two episodes has been pretty hard to take. I know it was all necessary character set-up/resolution, but yikes. Thankfully, the rest of 5B onwards should have a good pace.

I can't read this thread yet, but I'm up to season 3 episode 5 of The Walking Dead and WTF.

C-Section death? This shit is getting insane. Such a good show though, just losing so many of the non-depressing moments. Getting harder to watch in a row without feeling depressed.

Even the Governor scenes it's like what is this guy up to, no real moments of happiness.

atleast TWD doesn't have those awkward sitting-10-minutes-on-the-table-having-breakfast scenes where noone is talking and just crunching on their Müsli

My boy Tyreese would have been able to deal with that horde outside the barn no problem. If only Sasha had died instead, we could have had hammer time part 2 with a newly enraged Ty.
:(

It's crazy how much time this show just wastes. Like what was the point of that whole scene, who cares about a zombie in a trunk?

This has never made sense to me. There is no end game, this is it. What the hell would an example of not filler be?

What boats would be left several years in? Anyone with access to a boat, or in the general vicinity of a boat would have tried that by now.

Also, T-Dog had that idea years ago. Then Lori had to ruin everything.

I mean, at least looking for a boat is a better idea than traveling across the country with no garauntee of safety and much more danger along the way.

Really enjoyed this episode. So many little things that built up into cool things for each character in moving their stories forward. Maggie wanting so bad to give up; Sasha losing her trust in everyone and everything around her; Eugene wanting to atone for what he did with the water bottle only to have it slapped away by Abraham of all people; Daryl finally letting himself feel the pain of losing Beth weeks after it happened; Gabriel losing his faith after realizing that there may not be anything beyond surviving from day to day on dog meat and worms; just a lot of fun little moments like that.

My favorite scenes were when the group was trying to conserve any energy they had left by walking a pace ahead of the walkers and eventually luring them to get pushed down the hill and of course Rick's iconic "we ARE the walking dead" speech. <3

But like others have mentioned, why hasn't Morgan met up with them yet? ;_;

(Comic Spoilers)
Did not expect Aaron to show up THIS early but I guess it's in line with the comic since he found them just after The Hunters. If they're following that same pace, I wouldn't expect Negan to be introduced until maybe the Season 6 mid-season finale or Season 6 finale at earliest. I really look forward to how Gimple tackles Alexandria, especially since he loves to mix things up.

'because eugene probably did the math' is probably the worst i ever heard to make a 500 mile trip.

Well initially going to DC was "we got a cure!". Obviously they didn't even really set out on that journey, other than the aborted one with Glen and Abe's crew.

Then after everything went down, Rick said he wanted to go to Virginia because that's what Beth wanted to do, even though he figured nothing would be there. Pretty stupid reasoning, but it is what it is, Rick making a soft hearted decision so a dead girl and a kid he barely knows can have some sort of closure.

Then once they were there, why not go to DC? From Richmond, you can pretty much get to water by going north or east.

'because eugene probably did the math' is probably the worst i ever heard to make a 500 mile trip.

This was after the trip from Georgia to Virginia. The trip that went so uncharacteristically smoothly it was barely shown on TV. This week was the much shorter trip from Virginia to ...maybe somewhere close to DC who knows? That went so poorly they made far less progress in a whole hour of TV.

I understand why people wouldn't like this slow paced episode, but I feel it accomplished it's points and hit the right beats unlike last weeks art house flick.

Every scene in this show lasts 5 times longer than it needs to, then when the real shit happens (prison war, terminus), it's over within an episode. The pacing of the show is not very good.

There are tons of small islands off the coast of Georgia within swimming distance, or at least within makeshift raft distance. They could do it easily if this show followed logic that led to a resolution of safety and stability, but then the show would be over and lots of people wouldn't be raking in the cash anymore, so instead we get illogical dumbfuckery every episode.

The worst part about characters dieing in this show is the inevitable angsty filler to follow.

Yeah, the getting 'brought back' from the brink cycle is so tired now. And you just know now that the group is so large and filled with characters whose name and origin we had half forgotten, that there's more deaths to come. There's now way the producers are happy with that many people getting a paycheck.

Personally, I actually think them being truly safe and stable without the immediate threat of Walkers for a while would be a good thing for the show. The show suffers from lack of character development, largely due to the threat of walkers every episode and how much time they have to devote to killing them or running from them. When they were relatively safe at the prison is when we saw characters actually developing and making big decisions (Carol comes to mind).

Them being on an island might be boring to most viewers, but interpersonal conflict would be more interesting to me than the same rinse repeat that goes on the show now.

It's so hard not say anything in response to all these posts. I mean, once the group gets to Alexandria, things change drastically for the group, especially with regards to their outlook for the future. Things get so so so much more optimistic.

The reason they're only getting more and more depressed and beaten down is to highlight just how much changes once they settle into Alexandria. "The darkest hour is just before the dawn" really applies here.

The show will enter into an entirely new phase in just a couple more weeks.

The zombie virus is only spread through bites. Scratches, blood splatter, etc. doesn't effect anyone. This was established in the first season.

It's just a thing that doesn't matter in their universe, despite it not making sense.

Zombie viruses in general don't make any sense.

Everyone is infected. The bites just makes you get an infection that causes one to die faster.

Right, right. The infection that kills you right away is only spread via bites. That's what I meant to say.

Common sense in their situation would tell me to get on a boat and find a small island where no walkers could possibly reach you because they cannot swim.

There are tons of small islands off the coast of Georgia within swimming distance, or at least within makeshift raft distance.

They can't just survive indefinitely on a small island off the coast of Georgia.

They could do it easily if this show followed logic that led to a resolution of safety and stability, but then the show would be over and lots of people wouldn't be raking in the cash anymore, so instead we get illogical dumbfuckery every episode.

The Walking Dead is an adaptation of a comic series and what you described above is exactly what every comic does to keep going for years on end. Batman/Superman/Flash/Arrow never kill any of their rogues gallery because if they did then there would be no more stories left to tell and thus, no more comics to sell - it's a concession of the medium.
#NotAllComics

This has never made sense to me. There is no end game, this is it. What the hell would an example of not filler be?

Exactly. The scene-to-scene, episode-to-episode interactions between the characters and the situations they find themselves in is the "story" of The Walking Dead. This week's episode moved the "story" forward as much as any other episode.

That would be cool and a much better use of Morgan than what they did with him in the comics. The timing seems like it would fit too, since Morgan's scenes in the woods were much earlier/later than Rick and Co.'s.

And I have a feeling they're going to leave Shiva out of the show since having a zombie killing tiger would prove to be wildly implausible for a live action TV show and much too difficult and expensive to film, so it's not like they'd have to worry about that angle...

OK, I'm binge watching the show right now. Currently in the middle of Season 3 Episode 9.

For my own sanity, is there anything good that happens in the rest of this season or should I take a break?

Zombie viruses in general don't make any sense.

Usually that makes sense, but when they first invaded the prison back in the day, I remember one of the prisoners got scratched on the back by a zombie bone and Rick claimed that'd make him a zombie soon, so another prisoner killed him on the spot.

The Abe cut was one of the things that bugged me, but the fact that nobody seemed too worried about the fact they had just received a message they were being followed and watched was kinda noteworthy to me, too.

All told, I enjoyed seeing Maggie and Daryl get some development since they feel like permanent characters, Sasha continues to be a perpetual fuckup and I'm not sure where I stand on Gabe yet.

It's hard to get attached to newer characters when I keep wondering how they'll be killed off.

Keep watching. The seasons that follow more than make up for it.

Why not? When they were at the prison they managed to farm and raise livestock. If the island isn't too far off shore they can always make a few trips for supplies.

I mean, I guess, but that would be a radically different show. More akin to Lost or something. Pure interpersonal drama with no zombies, which, judging from your posts in this thread, seems to be the opposite of what you want the show to be?

Wasn't a huge fan of this episode, and I actually liked last week's. But I think this was overdue, we didn't get to see any reactions to Beth or Ty's deaths, so it definitely needed to be done at some point.

Mmm, right. I forgot about that. Was Rick just speculating though, or do zombie scratches really kill you? Zombies are grabbing and scratching at the characters all the time and nothing happens...

Although I don't remember that dialogue from the first season, watching the series it has been obvious that other than death only a bite seems to turn you into a zombie. I just think it's stupid to show the viewer those blatant situations only to have us wonder why they went the lame route that they did. Of course a zombie virus doesn't make any sense but I'd just prefer it to be spread through blood and bodily fluid like a lot of well known viruses do in the real world. All of this doesn't bother me much until I see examples such as the ones brought up my earlier post.

nothing happened when Daryl literally had his fingers inside a zombie's mouth, rubbing against the teeth for a few seconds, before he gouged out its eyes and picked it up like a bowling ball to kill a guy

i don't know, i always assumed scratches were equally deadly

it has always felt like the rules just don't actually apply until it's time for someone to be killed off
