Batwoman” has found its new series lead, with Javicia Leslie set to step into the cape and cowl for the show’s upcoming second season on The CW.

“I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community,” Leslie said.

Leslie will portray a new character on the show named Ryan Wilder. She is described as likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane (previously played by Ruby Rose), the woman who wore the Batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today Ryan lives in her van with her plant. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. She is an out lesbian, athletic, raw, passionate, fallible, and very much not your stereotypical All-American hero.

Leslie takes over leading the series from Rose, who shocked fans when she announced her departure from the series in May.

Prior to joining “Batwoman,” Leslie starred on the CBS series “God Friended Me,” which aired for two seasons. That show was also produced by Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions. She also starred in the BET series “The Family Business” and the film “Always a Bridesmaid.”

She is repped by Stewart Talent and Thirdhill Entertainment.

“Batwoman” is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Caroline Dries developed the series and served as executive producer for season one with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns. “Batwoman” is based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger.

The show is scheduled to return in January on Sunday nights on The CW.

And I will continue to not watch this crap.

It's a shame what happened to superhero shows. So much potential wasted for SJW politics that few people watch. The only company that gave a shit was netflix

She's not playing Kate Kane... She's a new character and the open casting call was for a woman of any color.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
I was ok with this until I found out she also bisexual.
Do they know how unrealistic that would be?
To have someone take over and just happens to by bisexual too?

Don't really care. Ruby Rose is a bit of an idiot and WTF is with that look? The pink hair looks ridiculous! It's basically Batman with emo hair.

I lost interest to CE comic book shows because they always turn into CW shows. Just like I got pissed with The 100 Having unreliable character arcs from season to season. But what really pissed me off was the lock in to keeping up weekly with all shows the cross Over episodes. Tedious as fuck.

Hopefully this show Goes more Green Arrow season 1 though 3.

The show was running that 'this is for the woke LBGT crowd' schtick from the beginning. It's not like they took something that was straight white before and hammered that into it.

So, I am fine with that.

it's comical to seeing CW throw literally everything at the wall to see what sticks. L didn't work, lets try B, okay if that doesn't work we'll try T.

Isn't every chick just a few cocktails away from being bisexual? In my anecdotal experience at least :p

Anyway, it seems like a low bar to get that LGBT checkmark. But I don't watch the show and don't intend to start so the casting is irrelevant to me.

I am curious though if they will start playing with the multiverse and make all the black characters secretly related to each other. I think that temptation will be irresistible.

She should've been trans, not woke enough. On a more serious note, it's not the same character so it doesn't matter. Show sucks anyway.

LOL. Anyone know when Professor X will be played by a bald Denzel Washington?

Got to pander to POC for those upvotes and make the community feel better.

Can't wait to hear about the new Batwoman. In 99% of cases, a Black person in media is portrayed with that tough, loud, street smart ghetto attitude. Curious to see if Javicia is played as a smart, classy lady with quiet suburban roots or from the hood.

Why can't African Americans just create their own iconic characters? Utterly creatively bankrupt.

They have? I mean... do you even READ comics?

And Kate Kane isn't being recast. Someone new is taking up the Batwoman mantle. That's all.

But is she gay enough?
I mean she is too pretty. It reinforces the hot lesbian stereotype. Look at all the rapists lusting after her in this thread. This is problematic.
