Yeah its not so much as bringing him back from the "dead", but rather the whole point of him trying to get his freedom from the High Table is so he doesnt have to kill anymore, ie to prove to the world that isnt his nature. To retcon all that in a sequel would be pretty jarring.

the final scene is him somewhat in the future, not immediately after 4. OR they buried him without checking if he was proper dead, so now when he gets out he wants to kill Winston and Morpheus (and others associated with his accidental live burial). OR he wakes up in a cold sweat after having dreamt he died and only 2 people showed up to his funeral (Everyone else pretty much dead so it makes sense) BUT looking across the darkened bedroom he sees a figure leaning against the dresser table. The figure moves into the light from the window and it's RUFUS! The rest writes itself
